Beautiful, tranquil, easy location

The house was roomy and comfortable. The grounds were charming. Close to stores and amenities but far enough down the road to feel apart from it all.

The road was plowed, plenty of parking for two big enclosed snowmobile trailers. The beds were comfortable, and the pool table was awesome. The kitchen was well stocked. Thanks for letting us stay!

Relaxing, spacious place

Great place for our family. Kids could play inside & outside. Host was easy to get in touch with & answered questions quickly. The home had everything we needed, seasoning, which was so helpful that we didn’t have to buy it then leave it. Overall, great place & would stay there again when we come back in town.

Great place for large group.

The lodge is a great place for a family or large group. We had a fantastic vacation. Plenty of space, comfy beds. I would recommend staying here but check first to be sure deck has been repaired and hot water tank issue is resolved. We contacted John about this and he promptly replied. Plenty of linens, dishes and all cookware.

Beautiful Rustic Cabin

This was a magical place to spend Christmas with the family! With games, a crackling fire, and constant light snowfall it couldn’t have been a better getaway! No cell reception for Verizon but the internet works great! We had a great time sledding with the kids right from the house as well!

Great weekend!

We rented it for a snowy weekend. We had plenty of fire wood and stayed warm. Everyone enjoyed the pool table. Plus the kitchen and dining area were very large and accommodated more than we needed. A big thanks to our awesome hosts. We were very impressed

Great home in a beautiful Montana setting

We saw deer and Lots of turkeys on the property. The cabin is so homey and comfortable. We had great weather so we were out fishing several nearby lakes and exploring the area. If it had been bad, there are lots of games and a pool table and an awesome firepit to enjoy. I hope to someday be back. It was great to be in such a peaceful, beautiful area of Montana. Great to meet you John!

Comfy, Relaxing and great Views

My family of four (youngest of 17) stayed here for a week. Ample room to spread out. Very comfortable and relaxing setting. The pool table was a plus. I now find myself looking out my kitchen window at home trying to find the snow capped mountains like I would see every morning making coffee here. It was also great to watch the hummingbirds on the columbine plants and deer in the yard. It is a bit of a drive (which I knew when I booked it) to get to Glacier but not horrible either. If your looking for a remote, relaxing setting to take your family to I would recommend giving this cabin some serious consideration.

Beautiful and Peaceful

The cabin more than accommodated all 9 of our family. It was fantastic inside and out. Everyday we saw deer through the living room window. One day three turkeys passed through. We enjoyed playing pool, games, exploring and BBQs. From any window you could see nature's beauty and feel at peace. The location is close to a host of activities. We took a trail ride at Swan Mountain Outfitters a few miles away. There is boating, swimming, kayaking, etc. available at the numerous lakes close by. We plan to return to enjoy this cabin again.

Cabin Getaway

We had two families that stayed in the cabin, 9 total people. It was close to Glacier National Park and other lakes nearby that we were able to explore. Holland Lake was a favorite, hiking to the waterfall after enjoying the lakeshore with swimming and snorkeling for the kids. The cabin was nice with utensils, pots and pans and extra appliances that came in handy to make the days easier (coffee pot, crock pot). We did struggle to get everyone through a shower, as the hot water would run out quickly. We had deer and turkeys in the front yard as well!

August 2021 vacation

We loved the barn that came with the house & the house was big & fit our big family & allowed the kids to spread out. Communication with the owner was great he was always quick to reply & gave great recommendations. We went to Holland lake twice to hike & play in the water. We saw wild turkeys with babies & a doe with a fawn in the back yard. The kids played catch, corn hole, track ball. The Mercantile store just 5 or so minutes away was great to grab drinks or snacks.

Mixed review

Many positives about this place- woodsy location, nicely constructed log cabin, large upstairs common space, pool table, and communicative owner. However, we found several drawbacks- main floor bathroom had a non-functioning shower (no handle) and only very hot water from the sink tap; mouse droppings everywhere; not very clean generally; a bad smell in the basement; and were told to bring our own drinking and cooking water. If these and some other items were addressed, it would be a more acceptable place to stay.

We love the elk antler cabin

Great isolated location, close to the road but far enough where you can't hear any road noise, in the flathead valley near swan lake, bigfork. Lots of hunting, ATV riding, great forest trails. I did the holland lake hike and it was one of my favorite hikes of all time. Tiny gripes not even worthy of dropping a star, I saw other people who couldn't get hot water to all the people, we had the same issue, 6 people in the party and hot water ran out very quickly we had to plan around it. Also the bunkhouse downstairs we couldn't find a heater setup, I would recommend putting one in there as that room has 4 bunk beds for kids and they get cold the most! :D Other than that we love the property and would absolutely love to come back again.

Good but 2 out of 3 toilets didn’t work

We frequent this area of our beautiful state several times a year. We no longer have an RV and decided to try a cabin. The location of this cabin was very secluded and private which was lovely. The large dining room table was perfect for our crowd and family dining. Deer frequented the area and a bald eagle and Black Bear were seen nearby. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean. John was accommodating in changing our dates which was much appreciated. The only downfall was two out of the three toilets didn’t work. The tanks didn’t fill with water and we had to use pitchers to refill tanks in order to flush. Additionally, we were given the wrong code to enter the cabin. Luckily this was rectified quickly thanks to John and Joy. Verizon cell service does not work so we had to find someone at the bar down the road (Liquid Louie’s) who had another carrier. This cabin is great for large parties. This area of Montana is one of my favorites. The only downfall is the lack of working toilets and the wrong code.

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up in North Dakota and my wife's family is from the Portugese colony of Goa India. She was born in Nairobi, lived in London and moved to Alberta where we met. We enjoy the quiet at the 'cabin' and the deer and wild turkeys in the yard. And being able to see the milky way and all the stars at night.

Why they chose this property

We were stationed in Edmonton, Alberta and we were looking for a replacement property for a rental we had in Denver. My niece lives by Flathead Lake on the west side of the Mission Mts and we started looking there but expanded our search and found this beautiful log home over the Mt.

What makes this property unique

This Swan Valley corridor is a true wilderness area where development is limited to provide corridors for the Grizzly Bears to transit between the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the East and the Mission Mountain Wilderness area to the West. At the property you feel isolated but are actually close to the highway. You will see deer out the window daily and possibly other wildlife. A great place to take a break from a hectic pace. There is internet WIFI. But no TV(bring DVD's-video games etc). AT&T cell phone service works at the cabin. Other cell phone service is nearby at the Post Office (Verizon).
On a clear night there are more stars visible than you can imagine.
