About this property

Waterfront Contemporary with Lighthouse View, Private Pier and Tandem Kayak

Our home is across the street from our private dock that houses a tandem kayak. Walk on over to launch, crab, fish, or enjoy the sunshine!
We built our Chincoteague home with several things in mind - a kitchen where we could have all the tools we needed to prepare gourmet meals, comfort, style and ease of use. From our private pier to the new outdoor shower, we've thought of all the details for a perfect vacation. This three-bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home features two waterfront King master suites, and a bunk room with bunk beds and one twin bed. Great privacy for everyone with all bedrooms having direct access to a bathroom. Screened dining porch and chef's kitchen. Theater room with flat screen TV and DVD player. Sleeps seven in comfort and an eighth could sleep on the large, wide 2nd floor couch. Covered parking and charger for electric vehicles make this luxury home convenient as well. The Big Green Egg grill on our back porch allows quick serving to the screened dining porch. Everything you need for a luxurious family vacation at the beach. We include the use of our tandem kayak, paddles, and life vests with the rental price. Tandem kayaks rent on the island for $65/day- so this is a $400 added value for our guests!! Crab nets and a crab trap are available for your use. Add chicken necks and sent the kids across the street to the pier to catch dinner for the family!
Our home features new Zinus king mattresses added in 2024, a great DVD collection for rainy day movie fun, games, and artistic touches, including whimsical ceramic lamps on the second floor from San Miguel de Allende. The expansive outdoor front porch is the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach or with your morning coffee.
The third-floor master suite deck is a lovely place to sit as well to enjoy the view.

Chincoteague stay

We enjoyed our stay very much. The house could use a few items, but I would say it is as described in the listing. The seating throughout the house could use updating. The couch in the living room is very uncomfortable almost unable to use. We had 8 people and we fit well. The bunkbeds are very noisy and we ended up moving one kiddo to the couch. We loved fishing on the dock and watching the ponies. We were unable to use the kayak because it had baby birds in it. Overall, we very much enjoyed our time on the island! Hope to return again!

The Views!!!

We loved staying at this property. Every morning we woke up to breathtaking views of the lighthouse across the bay. At least once a day if not more often we were able to see 1-2 bands of horses across the bay. The kids were amazed that we could set crab traps off the pier and we all enjoyed checking the traps to see what we caught. Can’t wait to visit again!!

Exactly what we needed!!

This spot was exactly what we needed. With 6 people, sometimes even if a listing says it sleeps 6 there’s not really enough room for everyone to hang out without getting on each others nerves. This listing definitely had enough room for all of us not just to sleep, but also to have room for all of us to spread out the one day that it rained while we were there. The view was amazing and the property was close to everything while being in a quiet area. A well stocked kitchen (the only thing I couldn’t find was a pitcher to use for lemonade - everything else was there!) and a list of all the best places to go on the island made everything a breeze. Thank you for a great week!!

Spring Break Getaway

We had a very nice time in Chincoteague over Spring Break and the house was great. We enjoyed being by the water and my kids fished and crabbed off the dock. We could see the wild ponies from the house and dock in the distance. We hope to return again soon. The area the house is located is peaceful and quiet.

Great Getaway....even in the Rain!!

While the weather didn't exactly cooperate, we had a super, off-season weekend stay at the townhouse. First, the host is excellent with communication. We had a couple of hiccups and he responded immediately. The kitchen is ideal for cooking-with-a-view. There were just 2 of us, so we can't comment on other beds, but the master king bed slept well...and the view from the top floor balcony is lovely. (So much so, that we bundled up and made sure to have our morning coffee there, even in the cold!) Reliable internet (March Madness!), too. We rented bikes, since the wind wasn't ideal for kayaking, and cruised nearly 50 miles in a couple of days around the island & Assateague. (The townhouse is perfectly located to access the park.) Cannot recommend Rich & Chincoteague Bike Shop enough! Birding, biking, great sleeps & hosts, along with a wonderful kitchen in which to make lump fin crab cakes....who could ask for anything more?!!

Relaxing family retreat

We enjoyed our stay in this house very much. The location is beautiful and close enough to everything to be very handy but far enough to feel peacefully isolated. The kitchen was a big part of our stay and made our meals much more enjoyable than most of our meals out. The bar chairs were a little odd feeling and are probably getting past their IKEA lifespans, but the backyard screened in porch, and front-yard table gave us nice options to gather. We also enjoyed sitting on the pier and upstairs balcony. Scott and Beth's recommendations on where to get produce and local seafood were solid, and we agreed with their honest assessment of dining out in Chincoteague. Use the kitchen and local seafood place as much as you can! The master bedroom was beautiful and clean, and the balcony has a view across the street to the pier and bayside marshes, including the lighthouse. Those who are light sensitive might want a mask. There are blackout curtains, but the lighthouse goes all night, of course, and some light pulses around the curtain as the lighthouse turns. The queen bedroom was also very nice with a lovely view out the window. The bunk room would be great for young kids, but is a little less satisfying for an adult. It shares a bathroom with the queen room. We didn't use the loft, but it is up a vertical metal ladder out of the bunk room. I wouldn't have wanted to stumble up and down it in the middle of the night. We made a point of getting up early to watch sunrises, which I highly recommend. On hot August days, the early hours are both less-traveled-by, and cooler. The Assateague Island sunrises were spectacular and just a short drive away. We alternated with sunrises on the pier across the street. Lots of birds to watch, and a beautiful view. The house across the street probably puts food out for the Canadian geese and ducks, because they gather there everyday. Fun to watch them fly in and out at sunrise and sunset. They also slow the traffic down... sometimes to a crawl or stop, as they would take over the road. The weather was very hot and muggy during our stay, so the central AC was very comforting. The front room was a very enjoyable place to sit, look out the windows, and talk with family in the hot afternoons. The backyard grill is a Green Egg that has perhaps seen too many renters misuse it, but it did the job after a little work cleaning it up. Perfect for our small group of four. Overall, we had a great stay and would gladly return!

Eastside road townhouse

This is a lovely and comfortable property with lots of amenities including a well equipped kitchen. We loved the view over the marshes to the lighthouse. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. A big thrill was watching a 5:30 am rocket launch from the NASA facility at Wallops Island.

Wonderful family vacation spot!

We booked this as a last-minute trip after other plans fell through, and it was amazing. The views out of almost every room are amazing, and we got out on the kayak every day. Scott was super-responsive and quickly solved a minor problem. The pass for Assateague was a bonus! We’ve loved Chincoteague in the off-season, and we’ll be back!

Enjoyable Stay

We had another enjoyable week of vacation at lovely Chincoteague. The house worked well for our family of 5 adults (2 couples and a single). There is a beautiful view from the 3rd floor balcony. The use of the kayak was nice and the dock not too far of walk. I can't think of anything we lacked as far as the kitchen. The front door lock was not one of those boring put in a key and turn to lock it types - it required a certain amount of finesse and skill to get it to latch. Those in my family with less patience just went out the back door - which worked just fine.

Fabulous home in a beautiful location!

We had a great stay in this beautiful home! From the moment we booked, the host was responsive and a pleasure to work with. Everything about the accommodations were exactly as advertised, and more. The views were spectacular! A great deal of natural light, comfortable furnishings, a spacious home and all of the amenities needed for a convenient, wonderful stay. Having the use of the kayak, crabbing supplies, dock access, and beach pass made this the perfect retreat!

Picturesque View

Lovely property with magnificent view of Assateague Island. Open floor plan promotes fluid conversation with others and views extend fully to back of home. Owner was great with questions before we left. Use of tandem Kayak was the draw for us and ease of access to water just across road. Magical quiet retreat for us.

Great Place to Stay, Will Definitely Return

My family and I had a wonderful vacation. The house was clean and spacious. The first floor was great for family gatherings but the house is big enough that everyone had their privacy too. It's in a great location, you are a short drive to the restaurants and shops in town without the traffic and noise of the main streets. My husband and son spent a lot of time fishing and crabbing from the dock, there's a bike rental shop within walking distance and the park is a 5 minute bike ride away.

Comfortable home near the water

Scott is an excellent, welcoming and responsive host -- we could not have hoped for better. The home is well equipped and very comfortable. Our only concern is the the online listing does not accurately present the setting. The photos do not show the road and the house between the house and the water, which was an unpleasant surprise for us upon arrival. But the view is still stunning and the house has many amenities, including a good double kayak, many games, and decent bikes. We had a lovely weekend and the cost of the rental is very fair for the quality of accommodation.

Open set up and super responsive owner!

My girlfriend and I visited the island at the beginning of March, so it was still pretty chilly, but Scott helped me plan our stay, answering all of my questions so I could get in our "must-do's" while there. He was extremely responsive to all of my messages. The property is 3 stories, 4 to the top because it is up off the ground. The views were amazing. They had a bit of remodeling going on and the painters left some tarps out which we rolled up and placed againsta wall, but other than that the place was very clean. Beds are totally comfy (a plus because I rented one where the beds were AWFUL one time) and the space is very open. Make sure you bring extra pillows and covers if there will be a packed house, the pillow selection is pretty small and you need all your own sheets. I'm a pillow person and managed to get one of my own pillows packed in my suitcase (I flew in from CO), so since it was just the two of us it worked out but we had to go get some extra pillow cases when we arrived. I understand this is a norm for a lot of places so they don't have to send someone in to clean sheets but it was the only annoying thing about the stay. Wonderful set up, AWESOME owner, we had an amazing time!

Too mellow?

If you don’t mind being on your own completely (including when something with the rental goes awry). then this place is good for you. Decent location, nice house, furniture and screen doors are a bit worn. Could use a better cleaning team prior to check in.

About the host

Hosted by Scott Harbinson

Host profile image
We built this home for our children. We wanted to create the sort of childhood memories that would last a lifetime and would be passed down to future generations. We chose Chincoteague because we view it as 'Mayberry By-The-Sea'. Chincoteague is a family resort. There are few bars, tattoo parlors and serious crime is almost unheard of. It is the sort of place where we feel perfectly comfortable letting our teenaged children explore on their own. They ride bikes to the beach, to get ice cream, take the kayak out, go crabbing and play basketball and tennis down the street at Memorial Park. They have an autonomy and freedom here that has given them greater confidence and has provided an opportunity to make decisions in a safe environment.

Why they chose this property

We designed this home with families in mind. The second floor King BR affords a panoramic view through a 12 foot wide slider. It has a shared full bath. The second floor has a 'bunk room' for the kids that sleeps 3. This bedroom also has direct, separate access to the bathroom. Adjacent is the theater room with four movie theater seats and a 40' flat screen TV. This allows 'early risers' to be autonomous and give Mom and Dad the opportunity to sleep in. The third floor is entirely dedicated to the master suite. King bed bed, sitting room with TV and DVD player; and travertine luxury bath including soaking tub. Of course, stupendous views of the Channel and lighthouse out to the Atlantic through a huge 8 x 12 slider. There's also a balcony for morning coffee, afternoon sun or enjoying a quiet evening drink.

What makes this property unique

This house was built featuring some innovative green technology. It's walls and roof are made of structural insulated panels, not 2x4's and plywood. It is tight as a vault, incredibly well insulated and quiet as can be.

Since construction, this house has stood against Hurricane Irene and Super Storm Sandy without sustaining so much as a scratch.

Finally, we selected this side of the island because there are far fewer bugs because we get the breeze off the ocean most of the time.
