About this property
Lake Escape- Nolin Gnome Home: Cozy A-Frame, Sleeps 8, Forest Ridgeline Views
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway just up the hill from Hardin's Landing boat ramp at Nolin Lake. Enjoy beautiful forest and ridgeline views during the day and spend your evenings sitting around the fire pit with your friends and loved ones.
The boat ramp is only a half mile down the hill, so bring your own boat or take a 15 min drive to Wax Marina to rent one for your stay. We're also close driving distance to Blue Holler Off-Road Park, Trout Fishing and the Green River Ferry to Mammoth Cave National Park.
This cozy cabin is a traditional A-frame that sits atop the hill at the end of Whippoorwill Way in Hardin's Landing just off Dog Creek in Cub Run at Nolin Lake. Outside you'll enjoy a tranquil and peaceful retreat where you can listen to the sounds of the Whippoorwills calling through the trees, and peaceful evenings with your friends and family grilling and chilling around the fire pit. You can see the glimmer of the water through the trees on some fall and winter days.
As you enter the home, there's a well-equipped laundry room as well as a generously sized full bathroom. Down the hall is the first bedroom with two twin beds (that can be converted to a king) as well as a nice desk with a large monitor to plug in your laptop or other device.
Also on this floor is the cozy living and dining area with access to the sitting porch overlooking a forested hillside, along with a small kitchen with a breakfast bar and an entertainment area with a record player with Bluetooth capability, as well as a collection of games and books. You can bring your own records or gently use our offerings. Our Roku TV is ready for you to sign into your accounts and binge to your heart's desire.
Upstairs you'll find three additional sleeping areas. These are designated as "bedrooms" in the listing in order to be individually featured in our photo tour. While it is a *contiguous* space, it is well separated into three distinct sleeping areas, and there are room dividers and a sound machine for extra privacy and comfort. The king and queen bed sleeping areas are across the stairs from one another, while the twin trundle section with the picture window is in an offset space at the front of the A-frame.
Currently there is one large wall A/C unit and another window A/C unit installed in the upstairs of the property. There are multiple fans throughout the home, and a supplemental air conditioning unit is available in the living area in the warmer months.
In the winter, we currently utilize a propane wall heater. There are also a few small space heaters if supplemental heating is needed, which is rare.
The exterior spaces of the home include a couple of seating areas, a picnic/grilling area, and a firepit with a grill grate for additional grilling space. We try to keep firewood available, but we can't guarantee that it will be in great supply. If you plan on utilizing the firepit, please think ahead. If you need a large firewood delivery, that can be arranged for you at an additional cost. There are also areas in town where firewood bundles can be purchased.
If you plan on using the charcoal grill, please bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid, and be prepared to clean it while you're heating it up. On occasion. people will leave these things behind, but we can't guarantee they'll be there for you. Think of it as a park style grill.
This property is not lake front, but depending on the season we do have a lake view... You can usually catch a glimmer through the trees to the Northeast. We have a lovely forest and ridgeline view, and some *spectacular* sunsets. It is just a few minutes' walk down the hill to the public boat ramp and water access at Hardin's Landing. There are private docks there, but they're not for public use.
The home is close to many local attractions. The Green River ferry to Mammoth Cave National Park just a 15 minute drive. Blue Holler Off-Road Park is also nearby. The home is only 10 minutes from the Detweiler's Country Store and deli. It's a great place to go roam around and get a quick lunch and ice cream or pastries. In that area is also convenient shopping for supplies in "downtown" Cub Run. Buoys at the Lodge is a great restaurant/bar at Wax Marina that has live music some nights and is only about a 15 min drive if you want an afternoon or night out. There's also a new Dollar General market just around the corner from Wax.
This home sits atop a beautiful hill at the end of a graveled private drive with a somewhat steep ascent on the last curve. And while our real estate agent made it up with no trouble with her late model Honda Civic, please keep in mind *your own* comfort with your driving abilities and the capabilities of your vehicle. Seasonal weather affects the road conditions here, and this should ALWAYS be taken into account when driving to remote areas. And while we take extra efforts to keep our property and its private drive highly accessible, the trip up the hill could be a little stressful for some more timid drivers. Our advice to you is to just keep going! Once you are headed up that hill, **don't stop.** If a 15-year-old Honda Civic, Amazon deliveries, and a heavily laden Lowe's appliance delivery truck can make it, so can you!!
The water heater in this property is relatively small. In the warmer months when the groundwater is warm, you may not experience this, but if the groundwater is cooler, you may have to give the water heater a few minutes to catch up when taking back-to-back showers or using the outdoor and indoor showers simultaneously.
LASTLY, because this is a very rural area, we occasionally experience "Boil Water Advisories." We like to bring our own bottled water just in case, and we advise our guests to do the same. Normally these advisories are out of an abundance of caution. However, we advise you play it safe. If we get a notice, we will let you know as soon as possible. You can also check the Edmondson County Water company for their updates before and during your travel.
The home is yours to enjoy while you're there. Because this is also our family's own personal getaway, you could find a multitude of unopened non-perishable items in our pantry cabinet or find squeezable condiments etc. in the refrigerator. Feel free to use whatever you need. We like to keep lots of staple items in the property since it is more remote. If you need to use any pantry items or finish off s condiment, etc., just let us know so we can replace it.
Throughout the home we keep individual Tupperware storage of our bed linens, some extra bedding and blankets, as well as other supplies like bug spray, extra light bulbs, and other things that we need to keep around for the upkeep of the property, as well as some of our seasonal items. We do kindly ask that you don't tamper with our seasonal items specifically. Those gnomes like to stay in their Tupperware homes until the appropriate time of the year.
Hopefully we've covered everything in all of the other sections, but just in case you missed it, the gist is to just be aware that this is a rural and wooded property. You can encounter bugs, wildlife, poison ivy, etc., just any other untamed wilderness area.
This home is atop a picturesque hill, and the last haul to the top can be a little imposing. Be aware of your vehicle's capabilities as this driveway has some areas of around 15° grade. We haven't had issues with our 2008 Scion xB, and my real estate agent's late model Honda Civic made it up with no issue. Be aware of your *own* comfort with these kind of road conditions. This hill can be a little dicey, especially in poor weather.
We strive to give you the most comfortable and cozy getaway. Keeping the "Gnome Home" mentality in mind is important to understanding what you will get when you visit our little getaway. There is no dishwasher, so if you're not a fan of washing dishes, we recommend bringing disposable items.
Keep in mind the *very real* safety issues for toddlers or young children. There's no way to secure a gate at the top of the stairs, and the home is not childproofed. We also live on the top a beautiful hill, and there are some steep areas surrounding the home.
Prepare to expect the unexpected... We're in *deep* woods, and bugs are just a fact of life. We spray the property and the surrounding areas regularly, but as Jurassic Park taught us, Life Will Find A Way... And occasionally that's into the home!! We try our VERY best to set you up for success, but this is a remote and somewhat rustic lake cabin. You might just think of it as "glamping" on steroids!
