The house was in a fantastic location; easily walkable to great restaurants, shopping, and bars. The kitchen was well stocked with tea, coffee, water, and utensils. The bed was super comfortable! There were plenty of pillows and towels. I can't say enough good things about the stay. Thanks a ton Matthew!

A historic gem! The love and care put into this place shows at every turn. The apartment feels updated with modern conveniences while respecting its historic charm. The clawfoot tub is a dream and the kitchen is stocked with all the basics you’d need. The location is so walkable and Matt was such an excellent communicator that if you needed a thing, he’d respond within minutes. My older mother and her friend stayed as well for a class reunion at the Tacoma yacht club and had no trouble navigating the space. Such a great experience and would definitely stay here again on my return Tacoma visits.

Loved it

The Green House Inn is honestly everything I was looking for in a place to stay in Tacoma. It has its own distinct style - the furniture matches the house - but it isn’t totally over-decorated like a lot of short term rentals. Everything has room to breathe so it’s easier to appreciate the details. Love seeing Mt. Rainier out the kitchen windows, so cool. The clawfoot tub felt like a particularly long one to me and that rules. Definitely take advantage and stretch out in it. The house was easy to find and conveniently located. Highly recommend Happy Belly for breakfast and lunch - it’s less than a 5 min walk. The hosts are very communicative and easy to work with. I felt so at home and comfortable in the space and will definitely be back. 10/10 all around.

Thank you so much! We’re so glad you felt at home. Restoring The Green House has been a true labor of love, and it means the world to hear it’s resonating. We’re still adding to it bit by bit, so we hope your next visit shows even more of our little art project in progress. Can’t wait to host you again!

Meet Your Hosts – Matthew & Desyrai

Matthew and Desyrai are both proud Army veterans who recently returned to their roots in Washington State. During their move, they stumbled upon this charming historic home in the heart of downtown Tacoma—a hidden gem that had clearly seen better days, but still radiated character and potential.

Originally converted into seven apartments during the Great Depression, the home felt like the perfect place to breathe new life into while also opening its doors to guests from near and far. They saw not just a house, but a story worth preserving—and sharing.

Though still a work in progress, Matthew and Desyrai are lovingly restoring the property, blending thoughtful renovations with its original 1901 beauty. Their goal? To create a space that feels like home, filled with warmth, history, and the kind of welcoming spirit only a labor of love can offer.

Why they chose this property

What we love most about this neighborhood is its unbeatable location near downtown Tacoma. From museums and antique shops to restaurants, theaters, local schools, and boutique shopping, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy—all just steps from our front door.

What makes this property unique

The Green House Inn isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience rooted in Tacoma’s rich history and elevated with thoughtful, modern touches. Built in 1901, this beautifully remodeled Victorian home blends timeless charm with curated comfort. Each unit has its own unique character, but all share a common thread: warmth, intention, and a touch of magic.

What sets The Green House Inn apart is its perfect balance of old-world elegance and modern convenience—vintage elements like clawfoot tubs, antique stoves, and original architecture are paired with high-speed Wi-Fi, smart TVs, and fully stocked kitchens. The atmosphere is cozy yet elevated, designed for travelers who appreciate both style and soul.
