About this property

Escape to nature at Saltwater Hideaway Cottage. Panoramic views!!

Escape to nature at Saltwater Hideaway Cottage, a stunning sun-drenched private guesthouse with panoramic views of Cole Harbour's ocean inlet. This 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom property sits on a large 4 acre oceanfront estate and is just a short drive from the East Coast’s best beaches and within a 15 minute drive of Nova Scotia’s two largest cities.

Tucked far off the road on a four-acre estate surrounded by old-growth forest, you'll find Saltwater Hideaway Cottage, a detached guesthouse with its own private entrance. With views of 200' of oceanfront, the property boasts some of the most beautiful vistas in Nova Scotia. Nature abounds; you'll see deer, bunnies, osprey, and countless seabirds while you relax and unwind during your stay.

Saltwater Hideaway Cottage features a fully equipped kitchen and private laundry facilities. The guesthouse sleeps six comfortably between the second floor primary bedroom with a queen bed, a main floor bedroom with a queen bed, and a pull out sofa in the loft living room. The property's bathroom features a walk in shower. Wake up to glorious sunrises over the manicured backyard and ocean and gaze at the stars from this tranquil oasis just minutes from the best Nova Scotia has to offer.

Saltwater Hideaway Cottage is a free-standing guesthouse with private entrance on a 4-acre property with 200' of ocean frontage. Guests have full access to all of the space within the guesthouse. The cottage is adjacent to the garage, where maintenance equipment is stored. The property manager may need to access equipment to maintain the property to high standards between the hours of 9am and 4pm and as a result, you may hear the garage door opening during your stay.

Outdoors, guests share parking and the 3.5 acre front yard with the main house. Also shared are the outdoor kitchen with barbecue, fire pit with seating for 28, and outdoor dining space. Access to the waterfront backyard is limited to guests of the main house, but guests of the cottage are free to use that space when there are no bookings at the main house. When the main house is occupied, access to the backyard ends at the fire pit. Occupancy over two persons is $25/night/person.

A swim spa and hot tub have been installed on the side of the main house. Please contact host for availability. Due to the excessive amount of time needed to maintain the swim spa after use, as well as the high draw on electricity, the swim spa is offered at a rate of $75/day.

Our stay was very disappointing. The property was not clean or well maintained. The most disappointing part was we were met with distain and an immediate wall of defensiveness from the property owner. Carla & my wife exchanged in heated debate and discussion, and was to the point where she accused us of sabotaging our time at her property. This is a disgrace to the spirit of hospitality that this province is built upon. Both my wife and I are deeply involved and connected to the industry and enjoy experiencing new places to share with others. We are used to everything from backpacking in the Yukon and NWT to staying fully serviced properties. The property itself was a great location for what we were needing, however the way we were treated was absolutely disgusting and degrading by Carla. This was the worst experience I have ever experienced with booking on any vacation home platform. As mentioned we have leveraged these services from coast to coast and have only received positive reviews from our hosts. I would highly recommend removing this service provider from your platform.

This experience was the worst I’ve had in 7 years hosting 6 properties in the U.S. and Canada. I am a superhost with the other major vacation rentals company and I have a 4.93 star rating with 206 reviews on that platform. My reviews on VRBO show the same level of care and support I provide to all of my guests across all platforms. Daniel and his wife had decided to stay elsewhere prior to arriving at my property and wanted to get a full refund for their stay with me. The way they went about doing that was to complain that the cottage was not clean. I was provided with a video by my cleaning team just prior to Daniel’s arrival proving that it was spotless. Within 30 minutes of their arrival, Daniel started sending pictures after having placed a smudge on the wall, a hair in the sink, and dirt on the stovetop and kitchen shelf. I sent him the video proving that the property was spotless only minutes prior to his arrival, and he had no defense. This is the “distain and wall of defensiveness” Daniel mentions in his review. I knew they were lying, showed them the proof, and they didn’t like that I didn’t cow down to their bullying, so went on the offense as a defense by writing this review. I sent my property manager over to clean the messes they had made, and when they heard the knock on the door, Daniel and his wife hid in the garage, which is off limits to guests. They would not come to the door. They were abusive via text message and voicemail, including regular use of profanity. They repeatedly told me that I must not be used to their “caliber,” but my assessment is that I would happily host any other caliber of people. I hope to never have another guest like them.
