About the host
Hosted by Alec O
Welcome! Thanks for choosing the Birchwood Cottage in the Historic Cove District! My name is Alec, and I am super excited to be your host.
I am from Port Clinton, OH, a town over from Sandusky. I enjoy spending my summers boating on Lake Erie and skiing in the winters. I've been an avid user of both Air Bnb and Vrbo since 2015. I have taken little touches I've enjoyed at previous short term rentals and applied them to this space such as the pin map of guests hometowns.
Why they chose this property
I enjoyed the central location between downtown and Cedar Point. I also fell in love with the potential of the home.
I purchased this property with the goal of bringing it back to life as it fell into disarray prior to my purchase. I spent over a year renovating this home and meticulously preserving its original character. The hardwood floors are original in the dining room, living room and bedrooms. The trim throughout the home is also original. On the front porch, you will find a reddish pebble stone on the inner wall. This was the original siding on the entire exterior of the home. This wall and a section of the garage wall are all that remains of the original siding. The stained glass porch is not original, but added very early on, probably the 1950's. The second floor attic (off limits to guests) is currently a rustic, unfinished space that I wish to expand into a bar/ game room with more living space within the next few years.
What makes this property unique
The preservation of the homes original character. This is the only home in Sandusky I know of with an enclosed porch with stained glass windows.
The small, but pretty view of the Sandusky Bay and Cedar Point.
It has a less than 5 minute drive to 3 major attractions: Cedar Point, Downtown Sandusky, and SportsForce athletic Complex.
