Loved how one bed and bath on each floor. Could spread out. Driveway was a little tricky with our GMC 2500 truck, we had to back up the driveway to make it easier to leave. The porch swing was my favorite spot. Kitchen was well stocked. Cabin is close to town/ stores/ restaurants.
This property couldn’t have been any easier to rent, check in and check out. The owner was great at checking in by text just to make sure all was well and no troubles.

Perfect choice
The cabin was a perfect match for our trip. There was three of us and everyone had their own room and own bathroom. The place was clean and well stocked. Had a few elk in the yard one morning.
The cabin was cozy and had nice size bedrooms. It was very quiet and peaceful. It was very close to Maggie Valley shops and restaurants and to the local ski resort. It was pretty steep to get up to so it’s helpful if you have an SUV or four-wheel-drive, but that’s not necessary. The beds were very comfortable and the outdoor/patio space was nice although there were not many kitchen provisions so I would recommend bringing things like Tupperware or foil or anything like that needed to do cooking or stay and store food for a couple of days. Overall, it was a great value for the price and we would stay there again.
Had a wonderful time! Listing was accurate and it was everything advertised that we were looking for. 3 floors each with its own bed and bathroom so privacy was never an issue. Hot tub was awesome. Roads to the house were easy to navigate. House was reasonable distance from Waynesville (groceries, etc.), Cherokee Casino, and Asheville. Would definately stay again.

Great cabin with enough room for a family of 6. In a community so not secluded but still decent views and great hangout/exploring on the property. We didn’t mind, but outdated if that’s something you care about. Great location to shops and exploring the mountains and waterfalls. Something walks through those woods at night. Sasquatch. It can only be Sasquatch.
Very nice home not yard at all not good for children. Very surprised to fined that we needed to remove trash from property ourself. Note when we arrived saying convienient location to drop trash but never found had to take trash home with us good thing we were only there 3 nights no longer

From the owners: "Apologies, but we have an entire stock of board games, giant Jenga, and even a welcome book that invites cataloging national park sightings, drawing, and some journaling. We’ve had dozens of children stay with their families. We're grateful to welcome children, adults, families, and everyone that’s interested in a comfortable, cozy, and welcoming place with a pleasant surrounding. Hikes, waterfalls, gem mining, restaurants, and making a fire are just some of what’s available to everyone that comes to Maggie (our place). All the blessings."

It's all about the details
Our approach to the cabin was easy and GPS worked the entire way. However, there was a stretch on one street you must use to reach the cabin that is a gravel road which can be a minor concern for motorcycles. It is a mostly flat road so isn't to bad though was still not expected as we were expecting a fully paved drive.
The biggest dis-appointment of the entire vacation was our welcome upon entering the cabin. There was dog food on the floor in the kitchen and living room areas that had not been cleaned. Also, the amount of animal hair on the sofas, beds, and in all the linens was extreme. The cabin was in such a mess that we had to go shopping for cleaning supplies then spent our first evening in the cabin just cleaning it. Even then we had to purchase temporary linens ourselves as the ones on the beds were just covered in animal hair/pet dander.
Then after cleaning the cabin we discovered it also had a flea problem. This issue we are still dealing with (being sure to thoroughly clean our clothing, etc.) to ensure we don't bring any back into our home. The cabin is advertised as pet friendly (though we did not bring our pets on this trip) though we had expected it to be thoroughly cleaned after guests with pets stayed.
Also, we were unable to get the television in the living room to work which was a minor inconvenience in the evenings though not much as you don't go to the mountains to watch TV! The cabin itself is in good shape, the hot tub was in good working order, and it even has a garage you can park your car and/or bikes in.
The owner was extremely apologetic and indicated via text there was a new cleaning crew and the pest control folks were nearly due. However, this is one of the work experiences we've had when renting a cabin (Which we have rented several via VRBO, Home Away, etc.). The extent of the uncleanliness of the cabin and our even having to purchase our own linens was a first for us. If this cabin has a new cleaning crew and the fleas were removed it would easily be a 4 star review. So hopefully this review is a rare exception for this cabin as I believe the owner will work to have these issues rapidly addressed.

Michael, thank you for your review. This homeowner has asked us to pass along the following response:
"You’re right when you say it is all about the details. I am sorry you feel you had a disruptive visit. I, as the owner, visited the cabin 10 days prior to your vacation. Satellite TV can sometimes be challenging in the mountains, the handbook with phone numbers usually clears up any immediate problems. I personally restocked the cabin with all NEW bed linens, towels, and cleaning products (which housekeepers use and leave there) and cleaned it myself, I am very hands on! It is also highly improbable the that stayed at the home just prior to you would bring a pet on their flight from Colorado, but not impossible. We have a regularly scheduled pest control team that services the home seasonally, but I know cobwebs and moths multiply overnight. We have absolutely never had fleas in the cabin, and our pest control team, Terminex, confidently confirmed after your visit that there are none present at all.
Traveling can be the most fun thing or challenging, most seasoned travelers know if problems erupt to take photos and to keep any receipts of inconveniences, as this is always the best validation.
As per previous reviews, I maintain very high standards and strive to provide all guests with a 5-star experience. We want everyone who stays at our mountain cabin to have the best experience possible."

Had a great vacation!
We had a wonderful time. Cabin was nice and clean but could use new mattresses. Also, putting gas logs in the fireplace, on a timer, would be a plus. We were afraid to build a fire in the fireplace since it wasn’t our home. Owner should also warn renters of the steep driveway, if there had been ice I don’t believe a 2WD would make it up. Location was nice and we got to see the elk just a few blocks away.
Cabin was spacious and with a bedroom on each floor, the cabin is great if you have a larger family. I did feel like the pictures of the view were a bit misleading. It does have some views visible but their are several trees blocking the view also.
There were a couple of issues we had, but the owner responded quickly when messaged. I would only give the cleaning a 4. There was hair in the shower when I arrived and we found a pair of socks in the couch that wasn't ours. Other than that, the cabin was pretty clean.
The only problem we had was the first left burner on the stove does not work. We are use to having cable. The TV was hard getting use to since the bedroom TV is not setup like living room is. My husband and I do not watch the same programs.
The Golden retreat had way more pluses than minuses. The minus: one bathroom toilet was sensitive, the water emptied out sometimes so we had to put water in the bowl to help flush. The towels were worn and did not feel freshly cleaned (although they were). The pluses: the view! The privacy! TVs in all floors (even though we didn’t use it), & the closeness to all fun things!
Fell in love with everything 26 Marion Drive, Maggie Valley had to offer. So much in face that I had to call around to see who all wanted to come down and join us, so we can book our dates to return. Enjoyed the scenery the adventures driving up to cabin and the convenience of how clean, well prepared, and comfortable it made us all feel. The owners are Super Nice, Very attentive in communication and understanding to our needs. I will recommend anyone to book your getaway with these Wonderful Home Owners.

Great mini ski vacation
3 adults and 7 kids stayed comfortably in this house. It was perfect! Cabin felt brand new. Hot tub was great. Kitchen had everything we needed. We were close to the ski hill and close to town. The views from the house was great. We got 3 cars in the driveway. The street going up to the house was a bit narrow, but it never posed a problem. No complaints and everything was great!!

The Golden Retreat
This had to be one of the best vacations yet.
We found the cabin both cozy and inviting. The view and condition of the well-kept cabin is one for "the books" . It was everything it promised to be and more!!!!
Personally, I came here to be rejuvenated. After dealing with the Pandemic and cancer over the past two years, the Golden Retreat, was my personal get away from it all.
We were not disappointed. The owner and property caretaker were found to be extremely helpful and responsive. We hope to visit again.
This place was in the perfect location 20 minutes to Waynesville, 30 to Cherokee and very close to Asheville too. There is three levels that gives it nice privacy for everyone. On our stay we went to the Biltmore, Soco Crafts, Soco waterfall (you have to go), and traveled around to see the Cherokee zoo. Its very affordable and worth the stay.
