Comfortable place to land after seeing the city, right by the Red Line. Spacious, well-lit and generally clean inside the unit itself. However, hallways and stairwells in the apartment building were smelly and could've used a good sweep. No big deal if you've lived in apartment buildings before, and the Vrbo itself was quiet and clean. Overall, a great value and recommended for a budget-conscious solo traveler or couple!

Positives: Location is convenient, right next to the red line for easy access to cta. Cooling unit in the apartment kept us comfortable in the hot Chicago nights.Negatives: Hosts have guests rely on a shared key to the exterior door to access the building. We were locked out, unable to get inside on more than one occasion when the key was not returned by others. I recommend that the hosts spend a little extra money and provide an extra copy of the building key alongside the room key to prevent this issue for their guests in the future. Additionally, there is no ADA access to our room, so if that's something you need, I'd advise looking elsewhere. And there were very few outlets in the unit.

Upon arrival, I learned that the address was not the same address listed on the VRBO website. It was actually a property next-door, which was a bit confusing. I had to text the property manager to get clarification. When I arrived at the door and followed the instructions to obtain the key to the building, there was no key in the lock box. The property manager was quick to respond, which was great, but there was no key available to me. Luckily, someone was coming out of the building and let me in. Once inside, the halls of the building smelt like cigarette smoke. Of course, the property owner cannot control what other owners/tenants do, but for anyone who is sensitive to cigarette smoke smell, this is something you might want to know. My unit was on the top floor, which was about three or four flights up. I did not see an elevator in the property. Once I got to my unit, everything was as I expected it to be and clean. Even though I messaged the property manager about the key situation, I did receive a message a couple of days later asking if I had taken the original exterior key for the building. It was a bit frustrating, considering I was the one who messaged first to let them know the key was not there, but I explained to them the situation again and they understood.
