Escape to our charming little cabin, nestled on 15 acres of rolling pastureland and Christmas tree fields in the serene foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Built in the 1940s as a tenant farmer’s home, this hidden gem sits quietly up the hill behind our big old farmhouse, offering privacy and tranquility. Relax on the porch, watch the birds, and stargaze under clear mountain skies.
Located in Ashe County, in North Carolina’s northwest corner near the Virginia line, you’re just minutes from adventure:

-15 minutes to Grayson Highlands State Park
-20 minutes to White Top Mountain, Mount Rogers, the Appalachian Trail, and the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail
-Steps away from Helton Creek, a local favorite for fishing, just across the road
-Short drives to the New River and New River State Park

I only had two nights at this adorable cabin, but it provided much needed relaxation and quiet time. I've experience three major losses in the past year and a half and desperately needed some "me time", which this space provided. Even though it rained during much of my visit, I was able to enjoy relaxing on the deck and sitting under the covered front portch watching my dog play in the front yard. The bed was comfy and cozy and the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. Can't wait until fall when I'll be able to stay longer and visit some of the local sites!

The location was perfect. Close to Grayson Highlands for hiking and recreation and close to West Jefferson for shops and restaurants. The cabin was amazing! We had absolutely everything we would have needed and more. We will definitely be keeping this place in mind for future stays in the area.

This cozy cabin was charming. We were all impressed with how many amenities were available. The kitchen was nicely equipped with all the essentials for meal preparations. The fire-pit by the creek was a perfect ending after our busy outdoor days and a nice dinner on the deck. My friend and I had a great stay at the cabin and really enjoyed the scenery and hiking in the area. We wanted to hike Mount Rogers. The cabin was close by to this and many other great hiking opportunities. The host was very responsive in her communication and we had everything that we needed to access the property when we arrived. There were clear instructions and information on the cabin and the surrounding area. The cabin had everything we needed. It was very well stocked including the kitchen, bathrooms, and extra blankets etc. The front porch was a really nice place to sit, relax and enjoy the solitude while listening to the many song birds in the area. My friend actually saw an indigo bunting which I sadly missed. It was also great that we each had our own room with an attached bathroom so we had complete privacy when we wanted it. I would definitely return to this cabin in the future.

We loved staying at the cabin! It was great and just like the pictures. We wish we would have had more time to explore the area. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms are nice size as well. We would definitely stay here again!

Cabin is very nice. Very clean. Beds are so comfortable! The cabin is in a great location. Close to State Parks. Our stay was over our 44th anniversary and we were able to unwind and regroup. Hosts were very accommodating. We will be back!

I was born on the outskirts of London in Essex and moved to Virginia in the 1980s. The rolling mountains and crisp air of Ashe County remind me of England’s climate, which is part of why my husband and I fell in love with this special corner of North Carolina. We’re delighted to share our cozy cabin and this beautiful 15-acre property with you!

Why they chose this property

This cabin sits on a 15-acre slice of my late husband’s family land, settled in 1798 by the first registered inhabitants of Ashe County. The property has stayed in the family ever since. The big white farmhouse at the entrance, built in the 1890s, welcomes you to this historic retreat. My husband and I retired here 15 years ago to live full-time, drawn by the serenity, cool mountain summers, and warm Southern charm. We think you’ll love it as much as we do!

What makes this property unique

Our cozy cabin offers a rare blend of history, seclusion, and natural beauty. Built in the 1940s as a tenant farmer’s home, it’s tucked away on 15 acres of family land settled in 1798—the first registered property in Ashe County. Surrounded by rolling pastures and a Christmas tree grove, it’s a peaceful hideaway where you can unwind, watch birds, and stargaze under the Appalachian sky.
