*IMPORTANT: Life in Tropical Hawaii 🌴

Welcome to our lovingly renovated plantation hale nestled in the lush jungle of rural Hawaii! We’ve worked hard to create a space that is airy, clean, and healthy — and we also share it with the vibrant life of the tropics.

We treat and clean regularly, but jungle neighbors like geckos, frogs, sugar ants, fruit flies, and the occasional roach are part of life here. We especially ask for your help in keeping them outside where they belong.

Please:

Wash dishes promptly after use

Wipe down counters and dining surfaces

Store all food properly in the fridge or sealed containers

This is very important, especially in the kitchen. You may occasionally spot a tiny German roach, particularly at night when the lights are turned on. Regular treatment helps, but pest control is ongoing, and we rely on guests to clean up quickly after cooking.

About Tropical Living:
Being in rural Hawaii means the climate is wet and full of life. After heavy rains, it’s not unusual for critters to sneak in through doors or hidden cracks. If you're especially sensitive to insects or prefer a completely sealed environment, you may want to consider one of the drier 13 climates found elsewhere on the Big Island — or a hotel setting instead of our unique jungle retreat.

➡️ Refunds will not be issued due to the natural presence of bugs or tropical wildlife. This is a normal part of living close to nature in Hawaii, and we ask for your understanding and aloha.

A Note About Our Cat 🐾
You’ll likely be greeted by Macchiato, our friendly outdoor Siamese cat. He is hypoallergenic for many, but not all — so if you're allergic or don’t enjoy cats, this may not be the best fit for you. While Macchiato loves affection and is happy to hang out with guests on the entryway bench, please do not let him inside the house. Refunds will not be issued based on cat sensitivities or preferences.

Thank you so much for helping us keep this home clean, peaceful, and in harmony with nature. Mahalo!

Aloha! We're a family rooted in Hawai‘i, with one of us born on the island of Kaua‘i and both of us long-time residents of the Big Island—living here for over 17 years.

We love calling the Puna side of the Big Island home. This area offers a rare chance to live close to the land, surrounded by raw beauty, wild spaces, and an authentic old Hawai‘i feel that’s local, peaceful, and refreshingly uncrowded. It’s a perfect place for homesteading, nature walks, ocean play, and raising our children with a connection to the earth.

We’re passionate about simple, intentional living—from preparing whole-food meals using ingredients grown from the land, to spending time in the ocean, reading good books, and traveling whenever we can. Hospitality comes naturally to us, and it brings us joy to share this special slice of life with others.

Hosting allows us to meet fellow travelers and help them experience the beauty, rhythm, and wonder of this place we love so deeply.

Mahalo for considering our home for your stay!

Why they chose this property

We chose this neighborhood because it offers the best of both worlds—you’re right in the heart of Pāhoa, with its eclectic charm, local shops, and colorful character, yet it still feels remote and peaceful, surrounded by lush jungle and the sounds of nature.

This is a truly local, off-the-beaten-path neighborhood where you can experience authentic Hawai‘i life—laid-back, creative, and connected to the land.

🌌 At night, the area is very dark, with minimal light pollution, making it perfect for stargazing under clear skies.

We love how it feels close to everything, yet far enough to truly unwind.
