About this property

Our little piece of Paradise!

We are happy to be back on VRBO after taking the listing off for a couple of years while we built an entirely new dock and welcomed many repeat renters during and after the process.

We are located in a quiet residential neighborhood. We want (and encourage) you to enjoy yourselves but this is not a party house.

Our property, which fronts an ocean side canal, has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, all quite nice and very comfortable. There is a huge master bedroom suite, with its own large bathroom, walk-in closet, independent central A/C unit, small refrigerator (in the closet) and direct access both to the canal side terrace and the rest of the unit through separate doors. Aside from the master suite we also have a second master suite (queen-size bed and private bathroom) and a 3rd bedroom with 2 twin beds. The 3rd bathroom is located just outside the door to that bedroom in the hallway. PLEASE....THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE WE WILL ACCOMMODATE, INCLUDING CHILDREN, IS SIX (6).

There is a fully equipped kitchen with wood cabinets and granite counter top, a living area with very comfortable furniture and a nice dining area. It is an open floor plan with 9’ ceilings (and ceiling fans) throughout which add to the feeling of spaciousness. Large flat screen high definition TV’s with premium cable and DVR are installed in the living area and both master suites. All living areas are located on the level above ground floor with a staircase to the front door and another in the back (again, canal side) going up to the terrace. The terrace itself is open to the prevailing warm summer breezes coming from the South.

To top it off, we have a very inviting pool downstairs and a chickee hut (native structure) for shade.

There is ample covered parking for two under the house.

For you boaters, Port Largo is known not only as a beautiful residential area but also for its canals. They are 80’ wide and 20’ deep. You can carry a 4’ foot draft in and out of the canal even at extreme low tide. The property is 75’ wide and there is a dock running the entire width. Although there is a boatlift that is not available for renters to use, there is ample space to tie up a 34’ boat in the remaining space. I believe we are the deepest water canals between the famed Ocean Reef Club in north Key Largo and the marinas in the Marathon area, so don’t be afraid to come on down by boat or trailer one down. The main entrance to Port Largo canal (unobstructed by bridges) opens up directly into the waters of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the adjacent Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, both of which were at the vanguard of marine ecosystem conservation programs at the state wide and national levels. Molasses Reef, one of the most dived areas in the world, yet still a wonder to behold, is right at your back door.

If you decide to stay with us I would be happy to recommend local restaurants and watering holes, for those inclined to go out and not cook. They are too numerous to mention and several within walking distance. The quality of the local seafood and specialty preparations is excellent.

There is a community park within walking distance with a vita course, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, volleyball courts, handball courts and an Olympic pool and diving area where world class college swim teams train in the winter. The pool area there also has a children's pool and water park that can keep the kiddies quite entertained for several days if the pool at home does not hold their attention.

Our place is a duplex located in one of the most desirable areas in Key Largo called Port Largo. The community is made up of beautiful single-family homes and duplexes interspersed among them. The street side unit is a 1-bedroom which has been rented full time by a local couple. They are very easy to get along with. The rental unit you will occupy is totally separate from the front unit and completely private.

If you have any questions or would like more pictures of the area and neighborhood besides the posted ones, let me know. I'd be happy to send them to you via e-mail.

Why they chose this property

I've been coming down to the Keys since 1967 (yes, I was just a kid!) I immediately fell in love with the area. 20 years later my family and I managed to scrape together the money to buy this property and build a weekend getaway. Been enjoying it ever since.

What makes this property unique

I am partial to the Ocean side of the keys because of the clear blue water, reefs, game (and meat) fishing and scuba diving. The easy accessibility to these areas by boat is what makes it so special to me. The Florida Bay side, though, more than holds its own in terms of natural beauty and you can boat (or drive, even walk) to that side. It's the whole package that attracts me.
