The house was meticulously clean and stocked with products that made our stay easier (shampoo/conditioner, dish soap). The beds were comfortable and everything was just as described.

The security lock on the front door did not work. We were gone for the day visiting with family who lived locally and when we returned late that night, the door was wide open! We called 911 for the police to check it out before we went inside. I also called the owner, but went straight to voicemail. I asked the owner to call me back in the morning, but he has not since we left on Sunday. Please note: The police said this was not the first time they came out to this house for this same reason over the past couple of months. So this was a potential danger that was not fixed and we were not aware of. However, the police officer said that it’s a very safe neighborhood and they patrol all the time. When we checked, it didn’t appear that anything of our belongings were missing. The home was filled with bugs and mosquitoes. It was very scary event. The first time this has ever happened to us with a Vrbo rental. I left an additional voicemail asking the owner to fix the lock on the door before renting it out again. If you choose to stay at this location, I suggest verifying that the front door lock has been fixed. That it locks and stays locked. Please note: Check out instructions say to load the dishes in the dishwasher, but there is no dishwasher.

Our comments clearly state all communication is to go through the VRBO app. We have ZERO messages from this guest through the app. No emails. Just phone calls that came though five days later. We spoke with police officers in Richwood that we are friends with, and they strongly believe the door was left ajar by the tenant. The neighbors next door have cameras that have been reviewed, and there were no unidentified people at the front of the property that came towards the front door those days. Also note nothing was missing, and nothing was stolen. Zero theft or damage. We also went out immediately to check all locks, and they all work just fine. Should this guest have followed directions, an immediate response would have happened. Unfortunately, with all evidence as presented to us, this bad experience was self inflicted. As far as the mosquitos, bugs, etc, when you leave a door open accidentally, I’m sure those things will enter. This property rents regularly, and we’ve had zero bad reviews. Please be sure to check out how many people love this property. We hate the guest had a bad experience, and extend our apologies.
