About this property
Cozy Suite on Bayou St John
Park your car on our property and walk to Jazz Fest, City Park, streetcar, bike share stations. The sun sets on the bayou across the street, which is active with kayaks, walkers and people fishing. Just off Esplanade Ave near City Park, the lower Quarter and Frenchmen St. entertain district are less than 10 min ride. Post WWII apartment with a private entrance on the ground floor of historic Bayou St John home. This is an old family house built on the former "Mule Lot" between Esplanade Ave and Moss St, which fronts on Bayou St John. The apartment was built post-WWII and though simple, is clean and bright. The bed and sofa bed were purchased new in 2016 and the sofa bed mattress was upgraded in 2019. There is a gazebo near the drive available for guests and is a nice meeting place for guests to meet each other or friends. Anyone interested in a tour of the property, please just ask... we have stories to tell about the house, property and the historic landmarks which are adjacent. We are happy to give info about transportation and the neighborhood offerings. We are history buffs and enjoy telling stories of New Orleans and its characters. We prefer to meet guests ourselves and show them through the unit, making sure everything meets their needs. The Bayou St John area is one of the most enjoyable locations in NOLA! Our Fairgrounds Racetrack is home to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. City Park, home of NOMA, Botanical Gardens, Sculpture Garden, Story Land amusement park, a Put Put golf course, a tradition golf course, and other attractions, fronts on the Bayou. The 160 yr old maker of New Orleans' most delicious beignet doughnut, Morning Call, is open 24 hrs in City Park and offers gumbo, jambalaya and other savory treats as well. The historic St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 is in the neighborhood also. The Esplanade bus is a good way to get to the Lower Quarter and the Frenchmen St area of the Marigny for lots of nightlife and music. The Canal - Carrollton Museum streetcar terminates 2 blocks from our house and will take riders to the upper French Quarter at Canal St and the CBD where Lafayette Park, the Smoothie King Center and the Super Dome are walking distance. We bought this property in early 2016 and immediately set about to make the post WWII apartments clean and furnished for guests. Restoring this old property is a work in progress, so we can often be found gardening or decorating this nook or that.
