About this property

Jardine Hills Merlot Cottage

Located only 100km (1.5 hours' drive) northeast of Bucharest, the compound consists of on-site parking and three self-catering cottages arrayed around a heated edgeless swimming pool and jacuzzi. We also offer an outdoor gas barbeque/kitchen area for outdoor food preparation and dining.

We are located halfway between Ploiesti and Buzau in the heart of the lovely and scenic Dealu Mare (the "Big Hills") region of Romania, which is famous for its vineyards and wineries.

The cottages are well appointed with underfloor heating, wood burning stoves, air to air heat pump/cooling systems, thermopane windows and 55" inch UHD televisions with fiber optic internet connection. Fully equipped kitchens and full bathrooms (with bathtub/shower) are available in each cottage. Two of the cottages (the Feteasca Neagra and the Merlot cottages) have two bedrooms with an attic and half bath upstairs which may be used as a third bedroom. The third cottage (the Pinot Noir cottage) has a large master bedroom with living area and loft with half bath upstairs which may be used as a second bedroom.

Lidl and Penny Market are only 9km away in Mizil, (as well as a local farmers market for fresh produce), for all of your provisioning needs. We are located close to a number of famous Romanian wineries including Tohani, Budureasca and Lacerta The traditional restaurant at Ferma Dacilor is also nearby.

Jardine Hills has been eco-certified by the Romanian Green Building Council.

Weekend getaway near Bucharest

This is a fantastic getaway just over a hour drive from Bucharest. The cottage is beautiful inside and out. It is a wonderful, quiet area close to the the wine region of Bucharest. The staff is attentive and happy to help and the environment is perfect. We loved our stay in this cozy cottage and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a getaway weekend retreat.

Wow! What a Gem!

Romania is a hidden gem - we loved it. A fascinating combination of interesting history and culture, stunning scenery, and a wonderful climate. Staying at Jardine Hills was the icing on the cake. Bryan and Mimi are the perfect hosts, running 3 boutique villas, set in the middle of their vineyard. The attention to detail was so appreciated, and together with all of the team on site, could not have done more to help. We can highly recommend booking some tours of the local wineries, and we even managed a horse and cart treck through the Jardine Hills estate. The villas provide a great opportunity to visit Brasov, Bran and Peles Castles, together with a visit to Magura to watch the brown bears in the wild, an utterly magical experience. Thank you, Bryan and Mimi, for a very wonderful holiday. We will look forward to seeing you next year - can't wait!

Jardine Hills an oasis in Prahova Romania

August 2018 was our 2nd stay at Jardine Hills. This is a Romanian Gem, set in the wine producing hills in Prahova. This a stunning location. The attention to detail of cottages is 5 star combining both a sympathetic rustic exterior in keeping with the traditional village cottages of the region, with high end interior design from Italy giving a modern luxurious finish. The infinity pool and jacuzzi are world class with stunning views of the local hills and vine yards. These are all beautifully landscaped and have matured incredibly in just 12 months. The newly built out door BBQ area, which is covered and with running water, service areas offers a fun area to get together in the evening, the small shop on sight offers an excellent selection of locally produced wines from Jardine Hills, the Pinot Noir is very good. This is all enhanced by the low key, friendly and service provided to those staying, They were available night and day for any request we had. We will certainly becoming again in 2019.

My wife and I are Americans who first came to Romania from Los Angeles in 1996. I work here as a lawyer here advising multinational clients and my wife is a former flight attendant. We have two children under 10 years old and enjoy the rustic beauty of this wine region of Romania.

Why they chose this property

e bought and renovated the main house in 2004. Thereafter, we renovated the existing guest cottage and added a pool area and landscaping. Our friends all enjoyed visiting us over the years so we decided in 2015 to build the Cottages at Jardine Hills on some adjacent land--close to us but completely self sufficient for our friends and guests, with their own equipped kitchens, dedicated internet and common pool and lounging areas. We completed the cottages in 2017 and they are ideal for families with children. We have also had friends rent the entire Jardine Hills compound (3 cottages) with several families for a week or more to enjoy an ideal group getaway among themselves. My wife and I have travelled extensively and stayed at small boutique hotels and guest rentals across Europe, US, Central America and South Africa. We wanted to create the same feeling on our property, in a rural setting but with all the modern amenities and comforts--geared towards family comfort and fun. Unlike other top properties in Romania, we are also very accessible to Bucharest, and can be reached in roughly one hour from Otopeni Airport. If you need transport to and from Bucharest, this can be arranged for an additional fee upon request.

What makes this property unique

Beautiful rural setting, easy to reach from Bucharest. Rolling green hills, with vineyards in the distance, quiet relaxation in an ideal location for sipping wine, swimming, sunbathing and enjoying nature. Hiking and bike riding with accessibility to shopping for your provisioning needs in nearby Mizil. A modern oasis in in the middle of a typical Romanian village. Guests receive a complimentary snack basket when they check in, which also includes a bottle of locally produced wine as our gift to you.
