Host and home checked all of our boxes! Great time here and beautiful home in a safe, quiet neighborhood. Well lit at night and we slept as soundly as ever. Comfortable and clean!Even provided our favorite coffee and refrigerated creamer to make each morning special and not rushed to get out for our first brew of the day. Great stay and fantastic weekend herein Downtown Meridian, MS! Some very unique and interesting American history can be found here.

Disliked: Location, listing accuracy
I was very disappointed with our visit at Magnolia Hill in Meridian in February. After a long day's travel we arrived to find a very cold home with inadequate heat. The thermostat was off when we arrived, and even after we turned it on, the air from the floor unit was barely warm. We discovered three small electric heaters which were obviously available because of the inadequate "central unit". When we attempted to activate the third electric heater it apparently tripped a circuit breaker, and we lost electricity in all the bedrooms. and the bathroom. We attempted to contact the host to determine where the circuit breakers were located, without success. It was too late for us to find an alternative room for the night so we had little choice except to try to get some sleep in a cold house. The only reason I am giving a 2 rating overall is because VRBO gave us a partial refund. After many years of using VRBO this is the first time I have ever had a bad experience. I would encourage VRBO to evaluate this unit to make sure it meets the high standards normally associated with their company.
The good: This is a cute house and nicely furnished. I especially appreciated that it was decorated for the holidays. The not so good: The shower was covered in mildew and had to be cleaned prior to use. The kitchen lacked enough cutlery (a couple of spoons and forks and no knives). The owner later had some delivered via Wal-Mart along with some creamer, TP and cleaning supplies? The pictures show a dishwasher, but the dishwasher did not work and according to the host, never has. Communication with the host was terrible. I had question about the property before booking and sent a message to the host a month ahead of time. I did not receive a response until the day before I checked in. I will not stay here again, and it was overall not a pleasant stay.
I emailed the following to the host:We are doing everything we can to keep from freezing. We got here about 10:15 p.m. last night. We intended on getting here sooner but we ran into some delays. As soon as I got here I set the thermostat at 90 because it was freezing in here. It was about 40 when we got here inside the house. By the time we went to bed, around 11 PM, it was 46 degrees. I figured maybe it would warm up more. I got up at around 3:51 AM due to being really cold and took this pic to show that it was only 53 degrees. I have two younger children at 9 to 10 years of age and had to have them layered with many blankets from our van and from the house here and have been checking them throughout the night just to make sure that they're okay. I have to say that we will not be staying here again and I cannot give this stay a good rating, at all. This just isn't a safe place especially for children. It definitely has been miserable and I have a long trip back home.Note: at 7 AM the next morning it was 23 outside and 56 inside with the thermostat set for 75The house is poorly insulated and situated on a steep hill with degrading landscaping causing the walkway to be very uneven. The excuse is it's a 1941 home. Be careful moving around here, especially in the dark. I am a disabled vet and had to take extra precautions to not fall.
