UNSAFE ...BEWARE....No security safeguards in place,

On December 8th-16 2018 my wife, I booked a house in Crucita, Ecuador thru HomeAway.com. On the 15th of December during our stay someone broke into the house, while we were sleeping. The person preyed a section of the window off , entered our house while we were sleeping and took my wife’s back pack which was on the night stand beside where she was sleeping. When we woke we noticed the back pack, another bag was missing, I discovered the items outside in the yard with all of it content throw all over the closed in yard. We informed the owners of the situation and they had a worker install more boards to keep the window from sliding. The damage was done, we felt violated, unsafe in the area. this unit didn't have a working alarm system, or security safeguards in place. For some strange reason the person left passports, etc. We felt blessed to have our life and our travel documents. We are reporting this to HomeAway, the Ecuador Travel Ministry in the hope that some guidelines be setup in place to make there places safer for the next customers and their reputation. It comes as no surprise to you have written this version of events. When I was informed about the break-in (this is the first time we have had a problem and we have lived here 12 years) I asked if you had reported this to the police as you had been out for lunch with an Ecuadorian friend in Crucita. You said you had not gone to the Police….. The strangest thing about this robbery was your diabetic monitor was the only thing stolen. We have security camars that cover both our properties and also one in the entry of the house you were staying that you disabled. Your wife volunteered that she had not checked the windows downstairs on the night in question so did not know if they had been secured. When you left I found the living room chairs outside in the open they had been left out all night so after having a robbery I would have thought you would have considered the possibility of them being stolen. We have had many guests over the years and never had to withhold a deposit until now. The house has a high rating and we have never experienced the problems I had with this rental. We will no longer be accepting instant bookings as we like to decide who will be guests at our properties.

Luxury and beauty in Crucita

A wonderful holiday time in a luxurious home. The home was well built and beautifully furnished and maintained. They have a gardener and cleaning person who maintain the property in top condition. The sound of the waves crashing onto the beach were so peaceful. My family loved it and we slept like babies even our 3 year old! My wife and I would enjoy the romantic atmosphere up on the balcony looking at the ocean and enjoying the cool breeze from the water. We stayed 5 days and we wanted to stay longer but had to do some errands in Quito. The location is peaceful but close enough to the nightlife of Crucita if you are into that and the shopping of Manta and Portoviejo. You get the best of both worlds as you can drive or take the bus easily to the action then return to the house to enjoy a quiet beach life with the family. I highly recommend this vacation home and we plan on returning on our next Ecuador trip. Excellent value for what you experience.
