Comfortable Living in Casual 100 yr old Home, 10 min walk to Stonington Village
This hundred year old home is a 15 minute stroll over a picturesque footbridge, into the heart of the Village. The house has been divided into two single bedroom units, one upstairs, the other downstairs. I am currently renting the first floor apartment. It has its own entrance through the back door and can accommodate up to four people. The bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a sleeper sofa in the living room. (Please note: Bathroom access for bedroom is through the living room.) The bathroom has a tub with shower. Though there is no dishwasher or laundry service, there is a full kitchen, Smart TV, free WiFi, and access to a spacious yard equipped with table, chairs, and a charcoal grill for outside dining. Ceiling fans and a cross breeze provide comfortable ventilation for most of the season. For comfort on extreme heat days, a window air conditioner has recently been added. On street parking. Property owner lives on site in a cottage behind the house. The Village hosts great restaurants and shops, Stonington Lighthouse Museum, Library, playground, La Grua Arts and Cultural Center, and CT’s only commercial fishing fleet. Extensive trails for nature walks nearby. Be sure to visit the Stonington Village Farmer’s Market: Every Sat., 9:00 a.m.-noon at the Town Dock from May through the end of Oct. On Nov. 1st the Farmer’s Market moves indoors to the Velvet Mill, 22 Bayview Ave., 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The Velvet Mill is a 10 minute walk and in addition to housing the winter farmer’s market, hosts a creative community of entrepreneurs & small business, Arts & Crafts, Health & Healing services, artisan bakery, micro brewery, restaurants, and a weekend crafts and vintage market. In Mystic, you will find the Mystic Seaport, the Mystic Aquarium, a YMCA, and plenty of shops and restaurants. Golf courses are 15 minutes away. Rhode Island beaches are just 15-20 minutes away (12 miles). Foxwoods Casino and Factory Store Mall and Mohegan Sun Casino and Performance Center are also approximately 15-20 minutes away. 10 minute drive to Mystic or Westerly Amtrak train stations, as well as I-95.

We were charmed by the property and kindness of Dorothy. The house is very cute and spotless clean. All equipment and amenities were as described in the listing, Dorothy sent a list of local attractions and places to eat which we used and were very pleased. We loved it!
Quiet and safe area. Disappointed with appliances for breakfast. Definitely ok if you’re not looking for more aesthetic housing. First ARBB I stayed at that didn’t have upgraded coffee maker, toaster and no access to coffee or tea. Would have been better with coffee for AM.
A bright and cozy vibe as well as being thoroughly equipped with everything to make our stay comfortable. We appreciated the winter escape and enjoyed Stonington, Mystic, and Westerly. A lovely stay!
We had a great stay in Stonington! The house was very clean, well kept & had everything we needed for a comfortable trip. Location was perfect - close to town but still peaceful. Would definitely stay here again!
It was an amazing place to stay! We felt so comfortable in the calm and quiet spot! It is very close to everything so we were able to tackle Mystic Aquarium, Old Mystic Village, and Misquamicut Beach!! We would definitely stay again!
The property was centrally located to all the sites we visited. It offered a quiet respit from a busy day in a relaxed atmosphere. It was exactly what we needed: clean and simple.
Very clean and comfortable. The host was kind and cared about our experience. Quiet and off the beaten path; a hidden gem for sure, wonderful place to stay if you find yourself in the area! Check in was easy and the kitchen was full size with all appliances, basic necessities to cook meals to save money and enjoy the local seafood.
We really enjoyed our time in Stonington! The place was peaceful, well-kept, and exactly what we expected. Dorothy was always available and quick to respond whenever we had questions, which made everything easy and stress-free. Looking forward to coming back someday!
Peaceful, clean and beautiful. Check-in was a breeze. Lovely amenities, good kitchen ware, and close to everything. Dorothy is an exceptional and experienced host.
It was a cozy, peaceful retreat. Our host was exceptionally nice and made sure to provide everything we could have possibly needed for our stay. The house was in a great spot that it was only a short jaunt in any direction to the places we wanted to go. Would definitely stay here again if we are ever back in the area. The porch swing was my favorite part!

About the host
Hosted by Dorothy H Papp
Please call me Dorothy. I originally hale from outside of Akron, Ohio, and moved to Stonington in 1979 when my former husband and I opened and lived upstairs from Noah's Restaurant. In 1998, I sold my share in the restaurant and moved to Grandview Park, a whole mile away. In the early 70's, we spent four and a half years hitchhiking around Europe and across Africa as well as living in Worfelden, Germany while working for the American Military. VRBO is my way of paying forward the hospitality of strangers from around the world during that adventure.
Why they chose this property
I have become a fairly private person over the years, and I like the neighborhood because the people are friendly and considerate neighbors. A heads up for potential visitors: Most people do not have air conditioning and though I get a lot of feedback that it's a quiet place to stay, there can be outdooor gatherings with children and/or music in good weather. I don't recall being kept awake after 11 or even 10 and I've been here 26 years now.
What makes this property unique
The ambience of an early 20th century home, and a 'self-led' spacious yard.
My 'hermitude' has resulted in my being a bit photo shy. The picture featured here is with my daughter's family at her home in New Zealand. I have increasingly become a migrating bird, spending up to 3 months a year at home on the other side of the planet.
