We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The cottage was very attractive, comfortable and fully equipped for all our needs. Stephen was an excellent and responsive host. The setting is exquisite and we especially enjoyed hiking through the lovely hills above the cottage. We look forward to returning in the future.

We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this property! The views are absolutely beautiful, and it was the perfect place for our family—including our dogs—to relax for a few days. We really appreciated the fenced yard, although our dogs were small enough to fit under the bottom rail, so we kept them leashed just to be safe. One of our favorite parts was the friendly visits from the cows and being able to explore the property. The large porch was another highlight—we spent a lot of time there enjoying the peaceful scenery. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with plenty of space to unwind, this is a great choice!

I rented this cabin to watch the Perseid meteor shower. It is in a perfect dark sky location with no light interference. The nighttime sky viewing was incredible! The cabin is rustic, but comfortable, with a nice view of the mountains from the front porch, and a fire pit with Adirondack chairs in the back yard. The WIFI signal was strong and very useful since the cell signal in the area was not. It was nice to be able to bring my dogs along on the trip. The owner was very communicative and shared turn by turn directions from the closest town.

Second time staying here. Property is very clean, well appointed, lots of firewood, and all the amenities one needs. Removed from it all and exceptionally peaceful. It's why I return and will return again. The host is very responsive when communicating.

Great location for a quiet family vacation - quiet and secluded but opportunities for walks and to visit the nearby McDowell battlefield. Host was very welcoming and helpful and the house had everything we needed. Will definitely come back!

This is a remote setting, surrounded by mountains and wildlife. It is quiet, peaceful and a reminder that there are still places like this in the world. All the modern conveniences are there including Wifi and Dish network. No cellular service (but who cares?). If you are fortunate to have clear nights, you must look up and see what the night sky looks like without light pollution! It is amazing to see the Milky Way and the billions of stars. If you have a telescope, bring it. There are a host of small museums, restaurants, and day excursions nearby. The Green Bank Observatory is a fun day trip. This was our third time here, I'm sure we will be back.

The cabin was rustic but comfortable and quite remote, just like it was advertised. We all loved it! We woke to birdsong and cows mooing in the morning, and enjoyed the deer and wild turkeys. The small town of McDowell was very interesting, as were the Elegius Mini Horse Sanctuary, Hayfield State Park, and the McKendree cemetary (one of our party had relatives buried there). But mostly we loved the view, the remoteness, the cows surrounding us, and the quiet of the mountains. We started every morning sitting on the porch with our coffee or tea and finished most days there, too. Great place to stay!!

Everyone in our family agreed that our stay at Steve's cabin was one of our very best vacations! We all felt as though we had stepped back in time and landed in the little house in the prairie (though without all the work and with all the amenities). The views from the cabin were stunning! We took walks through the woods and hills every morning and evening, hardly ever retracing our steps. Our dogs were in paradise. The cabin was clean, and we found everything we needed on site.We are already making plans to return.

Very nice cabin, dog friendly, clean and had great views. A lot of cows around which were cute but our dogs were a little obnoxious about them. Smaller dogs are able to crawl under the fence FYI but there more fences around the property. Our dogs got a few outside baths after exploring. Driveway is a little tricky but if we had a higher clearance vehicle it would have been easy. Great host - answered questions quickly and throughly.

Great communication from host. The property makes you feel your 1000 miles from civilization, but the cabin has all the creature comforts one would want. It's rustic, and very comfortable. Would 100% recommend you book this place, and I hope to be back soon!!!

Jaw Dropping is a good description. No one would expect a home this far away from the rat race would have everything it has. Amazing views. Dark sky stars (although our three chosen nights showed that doesn't always happen!), All the comfort of a suburban home. Interior decorations of animal life are incredible. The porch chairs are so comfy if not looking at the view you could fall asleep. Comfortable furniture and bedding. Not another home in sight. Oh, and if you must be connected even when this is there to disconnect - you have DISH and . could go on and on. Sometimes you see a "10" rating and you question it.....not in this case. Its a 10. The owner needs to be good as well and Steve provided great communication. Due to a medical emergency we lost one night but we've already decided we will be back.
