We stayed here in late January during freezing temperatures (20F). The home did not heat adequately. One bedroom had no usable heat without a space heater, and the wall unit in the second bedroom blew cold air even when set to 80. Bathroom temps were around 64. We were forced to purchase multiple space heaters and basic essentials out of pocket, spending well over 50, just to stay warm—this was the night before I had surgery.The property was not properly maintained and not in a safe area:- Landlord special with painting and updating- A frying pan was dirty and unusable (size of my hand)- The toaster did not work- Dog urine stains inside the home- Missing basic supplies, requiring purchases while recovering from surgery and caring for someone with vertigoMost concerning, there were NO smoke detectors and NO CO₂ detectors anywhere in the home, a serious safety issue—especially with gas heat and space heaters.The host initially offered to bring replacement items but never did. We were told to purchase them ourselves and promised reimbursement, then later limited to 50, despite documented expenses exceeding that amount.Checkout instructions referenced a key in a birdhouse, but no key was ever found, and the door was already unsecured on arrival.VRBO acknowledged these issues but only refunded the service fee and offered platform credit.Guests should never have to buy heaters or worry about safety in a rental. I do not recommend this property.
