About the host
Hosted by Nelson Fernandez
While I am originally from NYC, I have been living in the Berkshires for the past five years with my two black labs, Ziggy and Chicho. I love sharing my home with friends, family, and guests and introducing them to everything the Berkshires has to offer — hiking and swimming in the summer, skiing in the winter, and music and theater year round. After a long career in corporate communications, I now work for a nonprofit that provides free healthcare to the uninsured and it is incredibly gratifying work. I speak Spanish and French and am always ready to welcome our guests in their native language. I also work very hard to make sure all guests feel that they are home away from home and am always open to hearing how I can make their next stay even better.
Why they chose this property
Higgins Street is a quiet side street on a hill that faces East Mountain. It is walking distance of everything Great Barrington has to offer including dining, the Mahaiwe theater, and the Food Coop, and a short drive to Mansfield Lake, Catamount, and Butternut for skiing. Because we’re on a side street, it is peaceful at night even though you are a walk away from Main Street.
What makes this property unique
This is a beautifully renovated 1920 Queen Ann folk Victorian with an absolutely beautiful patio and garden and an enclosed porch that adds to the comfort and charm of the house. The double parlor has been designed for style and comfort — lovely but not fussy — and the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast nook in the kitchen or the front porch are perfect for morning coffee. The house faces South and gets great quality light throughout the day.
