The Neighborhood:
The neighborhood of Bayou Oaks is one of the oldest in Sarasota, with some homes dating back to the early 1920s. Sarasota experienced it's first "boom" at this time due largely to John Ringling making the young city his winter headquarters for the traveling Ringling Brother's Circus. In fact, many of Bayou Oaks first homes were built by people working in the circus, some of which still exist. The neighborhood's name stems from the many Live Oaks and Water Oaks that give the area a distinct natural feel. The location of the neighborhood means that the beaches and commercial centers of Sarasota are never far away. North Sarasota Water Tower Park, boasting an 18-hole disc golf course, paved walking paths and lighting at night, is only a short walk or two-minute drive away.
