About this property
Charming South Orange Family Home near NYC
Located in South Orange, NJ, our home (w/ backyard) is great for a small group to spend time together, with a renovated kitchen to cook and share meals. Ideal for families or visiting parents, and weekend getaways—quiet, comfortable, and easy to get around. Just 30-40 min car/train ride to NYC. Centrally-located, the home is walking distance to parks, restaurants, grocery, CVS, and downtown Maplewood and South Orange train stations. Quaint area is culturally rich, diverse, and friendly.
Built in 1905, our home is full of original charm—historic trim, pocket doors, hardwood floors, and standing radiators throughout, plus curated art and vintage design touches.
The renovated kitchen is fully equipped, with a Stop & Shop nearby for easy grocery runs. Heady Cup small-batch coffee is provided, along with a Chemex, coffee maker, and electric kettle. We also provide tea, and a starter set of dry goods plus an array of spices, oils, and vinegars, along with other thoughtfully stocked kitchen items.
Dining seats 6 (extra chairs in the basement). The cozy family room includes a couch and Smart TV.
Upstairs are three bedrooms: a queen with dressing area, a full with desk, and a twin (with kids books + games). Sleeps 5 in beds, plus a full sleeper sofa (with padded topper).
Bathrooms: a full bath upstairs, a half bath off the kitchen, and an additional basement bathroom with toilet and shower. All bathrooms have been recently renovated (they’re small, typical of an older home).
We provide premium linens, plush towels, and stocked toiletries.
The basement also includes a new Electrolux washer/dryer.
Out back, enjoy a patio and fire pit; firewood is provided. Please note: we removed the fence with one adjacent neighbor, so the yard is semi-open. We each use our own side, but the outdoor space is semi-private.
Entry into house is up one full flight of stairs.
Parking (Important): There’s no driveway, but free street parking is available across the street with the guest permit we provide (one car). The house is on the opposite side from the parking area, so you need to cross the street to reach the entry.
