About this property
Private Island Basecamp • Lanai, BBQ & Beach Gear
This beautiful 3BR/2BA home sits on a quiet, gated, one-acre property in Ocean View and is ideal for guests seeking space, privacy, and a central basecamp for exploring the Big Island. The home features open living areas, a well-equipped kitchen, and a wrap-around lanai with porch swing, BBQ, and fire pit. With minimal light pollution, nights here are perfect for stargazing. A scenic drive connects you to Kona, Hilo, Volcano, and the island’s many natural attractions.
This home sits on a gated, one-acre lot atop an old lava flow, surrounded by native Ohiʻa Lehua trees—culturally significant and full of life. Colorful birds, including species found only in Hawaiʻi, often visit the yard, especially during a warm afternoon rain. It’s a peaceful, vibrant setting that brings you close to nature.
At a higher elevation than Kailua-Kona, the weather here is typically cooler and comfortable. Ocean breezes and ceiling fans keep thevhome naturally cool, and in the evenings, you can enjoy the cozy warmth of the indoor electric fireplace or the outdoor fire pit on the lanai.
The home operates on a sustainable rainwater catchment system, collecting 10,000 gallons from the roof and treating it with UV sanitation and multiple filtration systems to ensure clean water for drinking, bathing, and laundry. Because this is a private catchment system, water pressure may be lower than typical municipal systems, and showers or tubs may take slightly longer to fill, especially for larger groups. All fixtures are fully functional, and this system is standard for homes in the area.
Island living comes with a slower pace—thank you for going with the flow.
Our home is set in a beautiful, natural Big Island environment, where you’ll likely encounter local wildlife. Feral chickens roam freely and love food scraps—we provide chicken feed in the garage if you’d like to feed them! You may also spot stray cats or dogs nearby (a common sight in this part of the island), and while we haven’t seen pigs on the property, they are sometimes spotted in the area. Geckos and chameleons have begun exploring our garden, and we expect to see more as it grows.
As with any tropical location, bugs are part of life here. You may encounter moths, mosquitoes, stinging insects, scorpions, centipedes, cockroaches, and more. Regular pest control, housekeeping, and maintenance keep them in check, and keeping doors and screens closed helps prevent them from entering the home. We recommend bringing bug spray and being mindful of your surroundings. Bugs are a natural part of island living and are not a reflection of cleanliness.
You’ll be staying in a local neighborhood, so sounds of roosters, dogs, kids playing, or yard work are normal. More often, you’ll enjoy the peaceful songs of birds and the gentle sway of the trees.
At night, coqui frogs serenade the area, especially after rain. Many guests find their chorus soothing, and for extra comfort, one bedroom has a sound machine if you prefer.
The home is yours to enjoy during your stay!
For safety and privacy, the following areas are off-limits:
The water catchment tank
Any attic access doors
The concrete pads and construction area behind the home
Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not venture onto their lots.
Thanks for your understanding!
