4 pm is late for check-in but we hoped, since we arrived in NYC around mid day, that the "hotel" would be able to store our bags until 4 pm. What we learned on arriving is that there really is no staff at this place. You can't enter without the door code which is sent by text at 4 pm. However, other guests were coming and going and no one cared whether you entered without a code, and in fact would hold the door for you. Once inside we found the lockers for luggage. This was one of the best features of this entirely self service hotel. We stored our things and went out for the day. Returning at 4 pm we entered with our door code (same as room code), went up to the room, and found it had not been cleaned. I don't mean it was dusty, I mean the bed clothes were completely undone and tangled, used wet towels on the floor, garbage not emptied, etc. The only recourse is to call a number posted in the lobby (and also in a text with the door code, I think). You will reach a person in India who takes your complaint and tells you that they will report the problem. That's it, that's all they can do. We waited. No one called us back. Ever. We called again with a somewhat angrier tone and again, all the person answering can do is report it. Finally, we decided to go back to the room and take photos. On entering the room, we found it cleaned. We never saw anyone working in the place so I'm not sure how it got done, but it was good enough. From that time on we enjoyed our stay.
