About this property
Whisper "Hollar" | Secluded Luxe Glamping Retreat
Whisper "Hollar" | BLK147 Bed and Breakfast
One of four unique guest rooms at BLK147 Bed and Breakfast, Whisper "Hollar" is tucked into a secluded woodland hollow where the mountain seems to wrap around you. Reached by an easy one-minute walk from the trailhead, this peaceful guest room under canvas offers complete privacy, with no neighboring rooms in sight—just the sounds of the forest and the quiet rhythm of life in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Unlike a mountaintop setting, Whisper "Hollar" feels sheltered beneath a towering hardwood canopy. Filtered sunlight drifts through the trees, cool mountain breezes linger even on warm afternoons, and the surrounding forest creates a sense of calm that's hard to find anywhere else.
Inside, you'll find a queen bed dressed with quality linens, comfortable lounge seating, soft lighting, and thoughtful touches that make it easy to slow down after a day of exploring. Large screened openings invite fresh mountain air while keeping you connected to the changing sounds of the hollow.
The forest has its own soundtrack. Birds greet the morning, cicadas and katydids fill warm summer afternoons, and after dark the breeze moves through the hardwoods as owls call from distant ridges. It's a peaceful atmosphere that's uniquely Appalachian.
Just steps from your room are a private hot outdoor shower and private pit latrine, thoughtfully tucked into the woods to preserve your privacy. Your stay also includes access to the shared field kitchen, firepit, and our complimentary continental breakfast with made-to-order breakfast sandwiches each morning.
Whisper "Hollar" is perfectly situated for exploring the region before returning to your quiet retreat beneath the trees. Whether you're escaping the city, celebrating a special occasion, or simply craving a slower pace, Whisper Hollar offers genuine hospitality, thoughtful comfort, and the chance to experience the Blue Ridge Mountains from the quiet embrace of a mountain hollow.
Escape into the mountains and wake up to a delicious breakfast. Nestled among the hollows and ridgelines on the side of mountain at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest, private guest rooms under canvas at BLK147 offer a secluded woodland experience without sacrificing comfort. With just four unique guest rooms, BLK147 offers the personal attention and relaxed pace of a true Bed and Breakfast, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are no roads, rooftops, or neighboring tents in sight—just your own peaceful corner of nature.
Each tent is accessible via a short walk through the trees, where the hustle of daily life quickly fades away. Inside, a comfortable queen bed and versatile lounge seating create a space perfect for slow mornings, afternoon naps, and evenings illuminated by lantern light.
When hunger strikes, the shared open-air field kitchen and firepit area provide essential cooking facilities for simple meals beneath the canopy of trees. Each morning, guests receive a continental breakfast and made-to-order breakfast sandwiches delivered hot in a chafing dish, so there’s no need for an alarm clock.
Fresh herbs and seasonal vegetables grow near the field kitchen. Chickens and goats roam freely on the mountain, guardian dogs keep watch, and perimeter fencing helps keep wildlife at bay. The retreat is adults-only, offering a peaceful, quiet environment designed for restful escape in an increasingly busy world. Here, the luxury isn't found in televisions or crowded resort amenities—it's found in fresh mountain air, genuine hospitality, exceptional comfort, and the rare opportunity to slow down.
Located in a rare mountain fold - sunrise and sunset move through the treetops with the light appearing or disappearing in every direction.

About the host
Hosted by Ann Heizmann
Rick and I (Ann) traded the rolling hills of our Finger Lakes farm for the Blue Ridge Mountains. Over the years, I've spent countless nights in hotels for work and travel, learning firsthand what separates a memorable stay from a forgettable one or one you want to forget. The details matter.
That experience shapes how we host. I'm passionate about cleanliness and comfort — every surface, every time. Mattresses and pillows are fully encased, mattress pads are washed between guests, and I pay attention to the places other properties overlook. Guests deserve the peace of mind that comes from knowing their space has been cared for as thoughtfully as their experience.
We created BLK147 as a place to unplug, slow down, and experience Waldeinsamkeit — the solitude of the forest. Our tents are intentionally few, thoughtfully tucked into our mountain homestead, offering privacy, quiet, and a chance to reconnect with nature without giving up comfort. We hope you'll find the same sense of peace here that inspired us to create this little corner of Apalachia.
Why they chose this property
The mountains of Polk County are beautiful. The weather is a huge improvement over NYS. We love how rural and rugged the area is.
What makes this property unique
We are located in a fold on the side of the mountain. Sunrise and sunsets are 360 - almost like a solar eclipse. If you look at the aerial photos, we almost adjoin the Cherokee National Forest- that's literally nothing for miles going up and over the mountain.
