Wustrow was formerly known as “Swante Wustrow,” a name derived from the Slavic language meaning “Holy Island.” The name traces back to a Slavic sanctuary that once stood on the hill where the church is located today. At that time, Wustrow was indeed still an island between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden. Wustrow is connected to all the towns in the Fischland-Darß-Zingst region via the Baltic Sea Coastal Bike Path and is considered an ideal starting point for bike tours along the Baltic Sea and the Bodden.
