Welcome to the Kap Arkona Holiday Residence, located on Germany’s largest island, “Rügen.”
Cape Arkona, Germany’s northernmost point, is a 43-meter-high cliff made of chalk and glacial marl on the Wittow Peninsula, which is also known as “Windland.” The Kap Arkona nature reserve, along with the fishing village of Vitt, belongs to the municipality of Putgarten and is one of Rügen’s most popular tourist destinations.
The Wittow Peninsula is the northernmost part of Rügen. It lies between the Wieker and Jasmunder Bodden. The peninsula was already settled by Slavs as early as the 7th century. Archaeological excavations are currently taking place at Cape Arkona.
The largest towns on Wittow are Dranske, Altenkirchen, Breege, and Wiek.
The Wittow Peninsula is connected to the rest of Rügen by a narrow land bridge known as the “Schaabe.” In some places, it is only a few hundred metres wide and separates the Great Jasmund Bodden from the Baltic Sea.
Here you’ll find the approximately 8-kilometer-long, fine-sand white beach that stretches from Glowe to Juliusruh.
Large, contiguous pine forests cover the “Schaabe.”
The harbours in Breege and Wiek offer opportunities for fishing or sightseeing cruises.
Passenger ships depart from here for destinations including Hiddensee and Ralswiek, home of the Störtebecker Festival.
Our apartment is part of the “Residenz Kap Arkona” residential complex. It is located in Putgarten and consists of three buildings.
Our apartment is located in Building 2 on the ground floor.
Not far from the residential complex, the “Molly” departs—a cable car that takes you comfortably to Cape Arkona or the fishing village of Vitt. However, both destinations are also easily accessible on foot or by horse-drawn carriage.
The North Beach is located about 800 metres away. It is a pristine, quiet stretch of beach characterised by cliffs, sandy beaches, and pebble beaches, extending all the way to Dranske.
