Borkum is a beautiful island with an oceanic climate in the middle of the North Sea.

Located more than 20 kilometres from the German coast, Borkum offers a wonderful escape from everyday life and is the only East Frisian island that enjoys an oceanic climate year-round, as it is completely surrounded by seawater and rich in iodine.

The Gulf Stream ensures moderate temperatures, so summers on Borkum aren’t too hot and winters are never very cold. The distance to the Dutch coast is about 12 kilometres as the crow flies. It is about 20 kilometres to the German mainland. The town of Borkum has about 5,200 residents and is the westernmost town in Lower Saxony (source: Wikipedia).

Traffic on the island is restricted; within the town limits, you may only drive to your holiday apartment on the day of arrival and the day of departure. After that, you can park your vehicle in the free island car park (about a 3-minute walk from the Gertje Apartment).
