The Ulenhuus is located in the heart of the idyllic Mecklenburg Switzerland region, not far from the cities of Rostock and Güstrow. It’s situated in the small cul-de-sac village of Zehlendorf—a place where you can recharge your batteries in seclusion and close to nature. The typical rural Mecklenburg charm is just as much a part of the village’s character as the many horses. Just beyond the village limits lies the Zehlendorfer Moor nature reserve, offering sweeping views of the diverse Recknitz lowland landscape.

Following a loving renovation carried out by the owners themselves, the Ulenhuus has been open to guests since 2025. Spanning 240 square metres, it offers accommodation with a garden, a terrace, and a fully equipped shared kitchen for self-catering, as well as a cosy lounge area with a smart TV. Floor-to-ceiling windows create a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors and provide a beautiful view of the adjacent meadows, forests, and pastures. The house features three double bedrooms, a family room, and an attic room accessible via an open staircase with two additional sleeping spots, as well as four (separate) bathrooms. There are two entrances. The main entrance leads into an open-concept hallway, kitchen, and common area. From here, you can go up to the upper floor, where a double bedroom, the family room, and the open-concept attic room are located. The second entrance on the north side of the building leads to the other two bedrooms (ground floor and attic). Bathrooms are located on both the ground floor and the ground floor and are all equipped with a shower, toilet, and sink. The interior design combines natural, Nordic charm with modern comfort. All beds feature Emma One mattresses (test winners) and matching mattress toppers for perfect sleeping comfort. A linens package consisting of bed linens and towels can be booked for 9.50 euros per person.

The Ulenhuus is situated on a 3,000-square-meter natural property and features a large south-facing terrace, as well as seating areas in the garden and a north-facing garden, which is particularly ideal for outdoor relaxation during periods of intense heat. Storage space for bicycles is also available. There is high-speed fiber-optic internet and reliable 5G reception, so mobile devices can be used without any issues. When booked in its entirety, the house is ideal for family gatherings or holidays.

Guests have unrestricted access to all areas of the holiday home, with the exception of one room used for laundry storage and another room that is still under construction.

Adjacent to the holiday home is a section of the building that is currently still rented out. The associated terrace and a small section of the garden are reserved for the exclusive use of the tenants. The terraces are separated by privacy screens.

Our farm store, located just 2 km away in Kuhs, offers regional products, organic and natural foods, as well as vegetables grown on our own farm (Opening hours: Mon 13:00 -18:30, Tue–Fri 10:00 - 18:30 )

The surrounding area is perfect for walking, hiking, and biking. There is a nice playground in town. Riding lessons are available upon request. The outdoor area around the holiday home is still under development and being landscaped—some areas are not (quite) finished yet.

On nights that are extremely dark and free of light pollution, you can enjoy a starry sky here that’s rarely seen in big cities anymore—no artificial light disturbs the view of the stars.

We recommend travelling by car. However, public transport is also an option—albeit limited. On weekdays, if possible, take bus line 200 towards Laage, Breesener Straße, departing at 2:00 p.m. from the Güstrow Central Bus Station (ZOB), as it goes directly to Zehlendorf, Wendeplatz. On weekends, holidays, and during school breaks in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, you can use “rubi,” the flexible on-demand bus service for the region. The Ulenhuus is located in the immediate vicinity of the Berlin-Copenhagen long-distance bike trail, as well as the Herrenhaus and Recknitztal bike loops in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Thanks to convenient transport links and its location in one of Germany’s most popular holiday regions, a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities are just a few minutes’ drive or a few kilometres’ bike ride away.
