"Close to Nature" at Lake Aartal—a rustic farmhouse with a terrace, fire pit, and fireplace
Rustic furnishings, cosy touches, and the patina of time give this house its very own character.
A place to arrive, take a deep breath, and spend time together.
The house is located in a small village, surrounded by open countryside with hills, meadows, and woods—just a short walk from the lake.
This farmhouse, over 200 years old, is a great starting point for spending time outdoors—on foot, by bike, with a destination in mind, or just for the sake of it.
Both inside the house and in the garden, you’ll find space for shared activities or simply relaxing.
For explorers and active holidaymakers, bike tours, hikes, and walks start right at your doorstep.
And at the end of the day, a special place awaits—one you’ll be happy to return to.
The House:
A historic half-timbered cottage from 1821 (approx. 90 m²) that sleeps up to five people. On the ground floor, you’ll find a living and dining room with a fireplace, a kitchen with a serving hatch, and a small guest bathroom.
In the living room, you’ll find books, board games, and a film collection at your disposal. The kitchen is stocked with basic supplies such as tea, sugar, oil, and spices.
Upstairs, there are two bedrooms—one with a double bed and one with three single beds—and a bathroom with a shower. Bedding is provided, and towels and soap are available in the bathroom.
The outdoor area:
The terrace attached to the house is a sheltered spot for shared meals or a quiet morning coffee. The garden adjoins the house and offers plenty of space for playing and relaxing. A barbecue area and fire pit create a natural gathering spot for long, relaxed evenings outdoors. Parking spaces are located right next to the house; the former barn provides a secure place to store bicycles and recreational equipment.
Good to know:
The house is located on a village street. You’ll notice traffic during the day.
Across the street is a preschool—not visible, but audible at times.
Inside the house, there are stairs and steps leading through the rooms. Some caution is advised with small children.
Wooden cabinet doors and creaking stairs create the typical sounds.
No fire—no heat. The water-heating wood-burning stove must be operated manually on cool days—just like in the old days.
Groceries / Shopping:
Rewe—3 minutes by car; Aldi, Edeka, petrol station—5 minutes by car; Pharmacy—8-minute drive.
Attractions / Activities:
A 10-minute walk takes you to Lake Aartal, which features a 6-kilometer-long, paved loop trail.
For relaxing day trips, consider, for example, a hike to Hohensolms Castle (8 km) or a bike ride to the wildlife sanctuary in Herborn (12 km).
For sightseeing, Marburg, Gießen, Herborn, Wetzlar, and Dillenburg are accessible by bus or train (bus stop—2-minute walk). On weekends during the summer months, buses run with bike caravans.
Outdoor swimming pools in Groß-Altenstädten and Siegbach, as well as the swimming pool in Gladenbach, are also within easy reach (15-minute drive).
In neighbouring Hohensolms (15 km), there is a slope with artificial snow and a conveyor belt, ideal for skiers and sledders.

We had a wonderful stay at “Close to Nature” ! The home was beautiful, cozy, and exceptionally clean, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Kristina was an amazing host who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for throughout our visit. The village is charming, peaceful, and conveniently close to a grocery store and a lovely park. We truly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and felt right at home. Highly recommend this stay, and we would gladly return!
Absolute Empfehlung!
