About this property

Charming 1750 Stonehouse in the heart of Saint Rémy

Step inside Le Petit Puits, a haven of living Provençal history. This beautifully preserved stone maison was built in 1750, tucked down a quiet meandering cobbled alley in the heart of Saint Rémy—one of the most beloved villages in Southern France, captivating Van Gogh's imagination and most celebrated works. The maison is a short stroll from boutiques, cafes, and restaurants that Saint Rémy is renowned for.

Original exposed beam ceilings, a stone spiral staircase, and lovingly restored interiors create a comforting, soulful atmosphere that no modern apartment can replicate. Thick stone walls keep the maison naturally cool in summer, and in cooler months, the living room's heating and fireplace create a cosy retreat after a long day exploring the region.

The kitchen is stocked with Provençal essentials such as coffee, tea, and olive oil. Bed linens and towels are provided—everything is ready for you from the moment you walk in. The bedroom is spacious and includes air conditioning. The bathroom is fully tiled with a walk-in Italian shower. The living area has a comfortable sofa bed, perfect for an occasional extra guest. Free parking is available nearby, and a laundry service with dry cleaning is available for an extra fee.

Just a short stroll away, discover landscapes that captivated Van Gogh at Saint-Paul de Mausole—from olive groves to lavender fields to the limestone ridges of the Alpilles—wander ancient Roman ruins of Glanum. Savor local Provençal food and wine at local markets. A retreat to slow down and experience the light and soul of Provence.

The apartment is in an excellent location in St Remy for roaming the town and the general area of Provence. If you are using a car, parking in St Remy can be difficult and expensive. If the space near the apt is not available, the daily parking rate is up to 35 euros per day in the public lots. If you are a very confident driver, you can venture to the parking across from the apt, as listed. Please know you will be driving on what is basically the sidewalks in the town centre. Several comments: 1. The access to the door behind the covering shutters was a little complicated at first, as I have never seen a door lock by reversing the handle; maybe the owner could explain it a little better, or you may spend a lot of time like I did. 2. We stayed 11 days, and there is no laundry available, which is noted in the listing; for long stays, I would arrange for a change of linen. 3. I have visited many times throughout France, and it is the first time it did not come with normal wine glasses. I would certainly recommend the apt, to others but hope this helps the owner and future guests
