No matter where your travels take you, all possibilities are open to you from here.
The Kiel Canal (colloquially known as the NOK) is the world’s busiest man-made waterway. Just 150 metres from our Lotte holiday rental, you’re right in the heart of the wider world. Large container ships and small sailboats pass by every day, and you can enjoy watching them from the canal bank while taking a leisurely walk with your four-legged friend or enjoying an idyllic picnic. Or how about a long bike ride along the NOK Route, which stretches 325 km along the Kiel Canal and through the scenic countryside from Brunsbüttel to Kiel (or vice versa)? The Kiel Canal offers you many opportunities for your very own holiday experiences.
Bornholt is also located in the so-called “Three-Country Corner.” The municipality itself is located in the Rendsburg/Eckernförde district, but also borders the districts of Steinburg and Dithmarschen, offering a wide range of options and, above all, short distances to great activities and attractions.
Just a few kilometres away, the Dithmarschen Stone Age Park in Albersdorf delights families and history buffs alike and invites visitors on an exciting journey back in time.
Hanerau-Hademarschen, also just a few kilometres away and thus easily accessible, is known, among other things, as the place where the poet Theodor Storm lived and worked; it was here that he wrote his novella “Der Schimmelreiter.” In the town’s forest cemetery stands a monument honouring the poet, which is open to the public and depicts Theodor Storm sitting on a bench in a lifelike pose.
About 12 km away from our holiday apartments, a true natural paradise awaits you. The Louisenbad Schenefeld. The historic mill pond invites you to relax with its natural swimming area, sandy beach, and wonderful walking trails. Admission to the beach is traditionally free. In addition to bathrooms and changing rooms, there is a large sunbathing lawn with plenty of seating. And if all that swimming has made you hungry, you can enjoy cakes, pastries, and other treats at Nanke’s Café—all while taking in the magnificent view of the mill pond from the lake pavilion. Highly recommended!
Thanks to their good and, above all, quick accessibility, Hademarschen, Albersdorf, and Schenefeld offer great options for everyday shopping.
The next-largest towns, Heide and Itzehoe, with their charming shopping streets, provide the ideal setting for a leisurely stroll through town and/or extensive shopping trips. Heide is also known for having the largest undeveloped market square in Germany. A weekly market is held there every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Come visit us up north for a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday, and discover the Kiel Canal and the many opportunities this region has to offer.
