This is a beautiful family-friendly historic mansion on a private lake.
Built in 1775, this 10,000 square foot mansion with 10 beautiful acres of land provides for a luxurious vacation. Amenities include a private lake, swimming pool, tennis court, jogging and biking trail, children's playground, nature trail, beach, pickle ball court, basketball court, and more. The inside of the house includes a full bar, two large children's play rooms, a greenhouse, an office, a library, theater, parlor, and formal and informal dining areas. This old home is maintained by a cleaning company, property management and landscaping service to preserve its history. Guests should not expect a brand new facility or a 5 star hotel. Guests should look elsewhere for that type of stay such as a large hotel chain. Guests appreciate this home for charm, space, history and amenities.
The house sleeps up to 20. However, approval and additional payment is required for groups of more than 9. Since larger groups do require more maintenance of this historic property, there is a $30 per day charge per guest after the 9th guest.
This is a large house. There are 14 beds. The second floor has 4 Queens, 2 Kings, and 2 singles in 4 large bedrooms and 2 smaller bedrooms. The third floor has two bedrooms with a total of one bunk bed (2 singles), 2 singles and one King sized bed. On the 1st floor we can set up a temporary bed which has been useful for those who cannot climb stairs. Cots may be available. There are 7 bathrooms (One is in the pool house). (Due to a VRBO glitch, the description on this homepage indicates only 2 bedrooms but there are in fact 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.)

We has an incredible time at the property, so much space, fully stocked cooking areas in the house and by the pool, the tennis/basketball court & pool were all great, and such easy access via train from NYC.
We enjoyed our stay. Had a little glitch with the VRBO app that made communication challenging. There were a few things that needed tending to. We plan to stay again. Lots of wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces.
We loved the charm and space of this property. We were here for a family reunion and Boxwood did not disappoint. Especially since we knew the family that lived in this house many years ago, we loved seeing the old pictures and art. It is a special place. The pool, hot tub and lakefront living room were popular with our group!
We had 7 adults come together for our daughter’s graduation and this home could not have been more perfect. Plenty of room for everyone with room to spare. The grounds were incredible and the pool was a welcomed way to cool down on a warm day. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Boxwood was a unique and charming place. Eric was very communicative and accommodating. The house has tons of space and unique character. Works great for large or extended families.
Our group really enjoyed the stay at Boxwood. There were tons of different rooms and space for us all. Some of the older family members really enjoyed learning about the history of the property as well.
We visited our sons going to school locally and love the space and house location. Very convenient to great restaurants and the property manager was there to greet us and show us the house. Thank you!
We had a great stay in this quirky old house. There was a ton of room and the property was beautiful. The property manager was responsive and helpful, we would love to stay here again. Thanks!
Me and my group had a great time at boxwood. There was plenty of space and things to do. The house was well stocked and had a lot of charm to it. Would highly recommend to large families like ours.
The location is as advertised - an older home with lots of space and great amenities. We loved having the pool, hot tub, grill, ample kitchen space and beds that allowed for this to be a great place to spend the day with friends and also a great home base before and after a day out.
We stayed at the house Thurs-Sun and had a memorial get together on Friday after burying our mother at the Washington Crossing Cemetery. The house was perfect for what we needed. The grounds were beautiful and everything was great. Such an historical house with character, we were so happy to find it on vrbo! Peter
We were in town for a wedding, seven of us. We had plenty of space to get ready and stay. Some of our family came over the day after the wedding and we enjoyed the property, the space, and the rooms accommodated some additional people to stay the night. It is an older home with amazing charm and awesome for group photos. Like they said, not a 5 star hotel but it makes up for it in amenities, location and space. We loved our stay.
Great house. Fully stocked! Wonderful towpath, tennis courts and lake. The kitchen was perfectly organized for us to cook together and enjoy family time. Beautiful art and interesting artifacts everywhere! The big room was the best hangout spot and the one crawling baby learned to master that one step like a champ! It was grand!!
This place rocks! Our family gathered for my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary, 9 adults, 8 teens and teens. All age groups loved the place. The grounds are impressive and vast. The house is old, like the description says, but it has character and a lot of space both inside and out. Multiple cooking areas, so no problem making meals for large groups.
The owner was diligent in answering questions before we arrived, and there was an onsite property manager to answer questions and make minor repairs when needed.
All family members said we would rent this place again.
This was the perfect venue for us. It was so spacious that our extended family actually did not use at least 1/3 of the space. There are large living areas where we could all gather together and eat together. And then there were very spacious private places where we could be by ourselves outside of earshot of everyone else. The huge windowed walls of the main gathering room gave us a panoramic view onto the beautiful property with water and bridges everywhere we looked. We saw large fish, deer families, and a beautiful soaring blue heron who landed close enough to intrigue our toddlers.

Disliked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
We had a good time.
It was fine. The big tv did not work. The outside entrance toward the pool needs a railing. Fell onto the cement. The toilet on second floor needs service, to strength it.
I stayed with two friends and family at the property for a college reunion. The pool saved us when the heat index hit 100 degrees. The property is clean and well-kept. Some in our party did not have cars and I would recommend a car if you stay at the property. The property is an oasis in the middle of a densely populated area. As an 18th century house, the layout is unique and I would also recommend looking at the bedroom layout if you plan for a large group. The history of the American Revolution is at the doorstep of the property if you have forgotten the details of Washington’s crossing of the Delaware.
Beautful facilities with all the amenities for an active teenage group. We took advantage of all that was available: paddleboats, tennis court, basketball, pool and sauna. Best of all, they all had their own bed rooms...7 boys...to hook up the individual game consoles. Kitchen and dining areas were fully stocked with all necessities. We were able to have a movie night with popcorn and smores. Overall it was an experience they all will remember. Thanks to our gracious host, Eric and Greg, maintenance, for checking on us and making sure all was ok. We would gladly return and highly recommend this property for all.
