Further comments about the area:
The villa is located on a hillside in the village of Gavalochori in West Crete. Gavalohori is a traditional Cretan village situated in the Apokoron region about 3km inland from the coastal village of Almirida. Its location is 25 km east of Chania which takes about 20 minutes drive along the National Road. Gavalochori is an old historical village with approximately 500 residents which has retained its color and way of life. Several family run tavernas offer the visitor tasty dishes of Cretan cuisine. Near the small village square and within walking distance from the villa there is a coffee shop, a bakery, a mini mart, two tavernas and the Folk Art Museum. The surrounding area has several beautiful nature paths for walking or biking which lead either towards the sea or towards the White mountains. The coastal village of Almirida is less than 10 minutes driving distance. In Almirida you may find all basic facilities, such as a supermarket, pharmacy, post office, bakery, ATM, gas station and taxi service. It has a wonderful sandy beach with crystal clear water and a shallow section particularly suitable for small kids. This Blue Flag rated beach is organized with sun beds and umbrellas and sea sports services. There are several sea side tavernas and bars offering exquisite sea food and night entertainment. The large town of Chania of course offers the visitor a wider range of choices for shopping, dining and night life mostly centered around the old Venetian port. Some interesting monuments in Chania town are the covered Municipal Market, the Venetian fortifications, the Lighthouse, the Fortress of Firkas, the Mosque of Giali Tzamisi, the Arsenals, and the Othrodox Cathedral.
The villa can be used as a base for visiting several points of interest in the area:

The property was just what we wanted. Comfortable, clean, private, good location, good amenities. The housekeeper was helpful, friendly and efficient. Great stay.
Lovely village location with great sunsets. Good pool that you can do some lengths in. Great comms with owner Christos and caretaker Mrs Froso. And lots of lovely local cats are a bonus.

Thank you very much for staying with us! It was a pleasure hosting you!
We absolutely loved this place. Perfect for a family with grown up kids! Lots of space, easy to go out and eat and everything you need on your doorstep. But also private and quiet.
This is a luxurious villa in a lovely village which exceeded expectations. Our family had an amazing time exploring this region in the mornings then swimming / chilling in the the villa in the afternoons. Car probably essential. Almyrida beach (local) is really great for families.

It was a pleasure hosting Mandy and her family! Thank you for staying with us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the villa, having been warmly welcomed by the housekeeper. The villa was clean and well maintained. The villa set up was great for a family of 5 and we enjoyed days by the pool and nearby beaches. The terrace provided fantastic views, the local village had some great restaurants and bakery for morning supplies. The owner recommended some good restaurants.
Note you do need a car and the walk from the village is steep.
Everything about our stay was fabulous. The villa was lovely with stunning views of the white mountains and beautiful sunsets. The village felt unspoilt with lovely restaurants and live music on two of the nights we ate out. The beaches were only a few minutes drive away and we were close enough to visit Chania for a boat trip and to enjoy the old town. Managed to hike the Imbros Gorge and take in the ruins at Aptera. Also, mustn't forget to say thank you to Mrs Froso, the housekeeper, who was lovely. If we ever come back to Crete I would love to stay here again.
Gavalochori is a lovely village and a great location in a lovely area with local good tavernas in the village and nearby Almyrida.Sadly the villa is rather tired and unloved, seemingly having been little updated since the original photo gallery. The bathroom is minute, the bath shower/tap was seized up and the bathroom and toilet layout is very poor. Paintwork is shabby, blinds are torn, doors jamb and fittings are dated and some decking boards on the balcony are rotted.Nevertheless the setting is superb, the large balcony is excellent withe lovely views of the White Mountains and the pool is private.Previous reviews have referred to the tired unloved aspect of the villa. This is such a shame and left us rather disappointed, if you can look past this aspect of the villa then you will enjoy your stay in Gavalochori.

We have addressed all the issues after the guest's departure.
A peaceful, well-equipped villa with everything you need — highly recommended!
We had a fantastic stay at Villa Aphrodite. The check-in process was seamless thanks to a lockbox with the key inside — super easy after a long travel day. When we arrived, we were greeted with a spacious, spotless home, beautiful views, and thoughtful welcome touches like fresh fruit and drinks, which we really appreciated. The villa was exactly as described (if not better) — comfortable, clean, and clearly well-maintained. The bedrooms were cozy, and the kitchen had everything we needed, including the kinds of little extras that are often overlooked. We especially enjoyed breakfast on the patio each morning — the view was picturesque, and the space was very peaceful. The pool area was a highlight for us. While not heated, it was perfectly comfortable for swimming in early June. There were padded sunbeds and even some pool toys left for us, which made it easy to relax and have fun.The village of Gavalochori is charming and quiet, with a few solid restaurants, a mini market, bakery, and more — all just a short (if steep) walk down the hill. The daily cleaning service was excellent, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout our stay.Overall, our favorite part was just spending time together in the pool. We felt very well taken care of and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Villa Aphrodite to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Crete.

Thank you for your review Jesse! You were wonderful guests.
I stayed here with my adult son and after a little trouble finding it at night, we were thrilled with the size and privacy of the villa. With 3 double bedrooms it meant my son had the whole ground floor to himself.
The living room and kitchen were huge and the vaulted wooden ceiling and wall to wall views over the White mountains very impressive.
We were welcomed with fruit, beer and wine and I had requested some milk for morning tea, which was kindly provided too.
All communication with Christos and Mrs Froso was speedy, friendly and helpful and Mrs Froso was a delight to meet and chat to a couple of times and she couldn't do enough for us, without being the least intrusive.
She asked us to let her know when it would be convenient to clean, rather than just turning up and we appreciated that.
We didn't use the dish washer as we mainly ate out and because there were only 3 mugs, although plenty of plates, glasses, cutlery etc. The fridge freezer was huge and kept things really chilled. The choice of cofee machine was great too.
We loved the area around the pool for our more leisurely days and it felt quiet and secluded although on the edge of the village. It was great to have beach towels provided for a change.
Gavalachori is a beautiful hillside Greek village with hiking trails. The walk down to the local shops and wonderful taverna was perfect and the short hill back up to the villa helped us walk off our feasting!
The tranquil Venetian Wells site was very close by too

We loved this villa, particularly eating in the taverna close by then watching the sunset over the hills. It was roomy, clean, well-appointed. The pool and air-conditioning provided balance to the summer's heat. We'd come here again in a flash.

Thank you for your feedback. The change over day was very hectic as the villa keeper had 3 hours to prepare 3 villas for the new arrivals and the additional help we get on such days was ill. As in the past the villa keeper would be happy to take care right away any of the issues the guest may make her aware of including replacements of defective parts.
This is not the place for you if you like mass tourism and crowds - set inside a small village near the mountains. Mrs Froso the housekeeper was super - showing up at 01:30 when we had water issues. The little village and the amazing restaurants - we had our best meals in the island at the restaurant. And the grocery and family just behind the bread store was amazing and had such a great selection of dairy and yoghurt products. The amazing pool and views. Only point is you really do need a car and this is not a stone’s throw from Chania and Reythymno - everything is long distances to drive. But if you’re happy to stay put in this beautiful villa and lovely pool and stock up on local groceries like we did, you’re set!
