The Gros neighborhood, separated from the city center and the Urumea River, is bordered to the north by the Cantabrian Sea, to the east by Mount Ulia, and to the west by the Urumea River and the Kursaal Congress Center. Two bridges separate it from the city center, making it easily accessible.
In Gros is Zurriola Beach, the newest of San Sebastián's three beaches frequented by surfers and professionals. At the end of Zurriola, walking along the slopes of Mount Ulia, you'll find Sagües, an area of Gros that has become popular with younger people. It's a neighborhood with houses, bars, and pintxo bars, offering a large promenade and recreational area, all facing the sea.
Gros is a bustling business and, especially in recent years, has become a popular spot for drinks and a haven for pintxo lovers. To experience a complete pintxo crawl, you'll need to visit the Old Town, which is a maximum of 7 minutes away from Gros. From there, you can take short, idyllic walks, such as the one that starts in Sagües and follows the Zurriola Promenade to the Paseo Nuevo (a magical experience, given the rough Cantabrian Sea). From there, a 15-20 minute walk takes you up Mount Urgull to return to the picturesque fishing port and then back to the Old Town and Gros, completing a beautiful circular route.
The neighborhood has several supermarkets and shops selling all kinds of food, for those who wish to enjoy a more intimate dinner in an apartment. When visiting the city by car, Gros has three large public parking garages (for a fee): Plaza Catalunya, Kursaal, and Txofre.

The Weather in San Sebastián
San Sebastián's Climate
San Sebastián boasts a pleasant maritime climate, with warm summers, mild winters, and abundant rainfall throughout the year. Summers have an average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with highs that rarely exceed 30°C (86°F), although it can drop in the evenings, so be sure to bring a light jacket or sweater if you plan on taking a stroll along the beach or the promenade. Rainfall isn't as heavy as during the rest of the year, but downpours are common. You can enjoy up to 10 hours of sunshine a day during the summer months. The bay's warm (and often choppy) waters hover around 19-22°C, ideal for water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding, and scuba diving.
In winter, temperatures hover around 9°C and rarely drop below 5°C. It's the wettest and windiest season, although water temperatures are still mild, between 9-13°C. The best way to warm up is to eat at a traditional cider house and enjoy the aroma of freshly opened cider barrels.
If you choose to visit San Sebastián in spring and autumn, you'll find mild temperatures and an average of 8.5 hours of sunshine per day, although these seasons are known for their unpredictable weather. For those wishing to take a dip in the bay, it is preferable to do so in early autumn rather than late spring, due to the water temperatures.
