Restored servants' quarters for 1812 house in heart of Historic District
The meticulously restored Cottage is a former servants' quarters for this property which has one of the oldest homes in Summerville dating from ca. 1812. The main house and the Cottage have been the focus of over 40 years attention to proper restoration by many fine craftsmen from the historic preservation community of Charleston and the Low Country. The Cottage measures approximately 800 sq' and is approached by its own private paved drive with private parking. Outside the Cottage is a large brick patio surrounded by boxwood, azaleas and camellias and a pleasing water feature. Many magnolia trees and live oaks surround the Cottage which is about 150' behind the main house. The Cottage is completely self-contained with a full kitchen, bath/shower, living room with fireplace as well as a large bedroom with Queen 4 poster bed and sitting area. The living room and bedroom both have high cathedral ceilings. The roof of the Cottage is standing seam tin and makes for magnificent sleep during a rain storm. Guests have been telling us for many years that nothing has been overlooked in the decor or amenities for the Cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped with new stainless appliances and a granite counter top. There is a range, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, disposal, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, Keurig coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes and utensils. The bath has a tiled tub/shower and pedestal sink. Wide board heart pine floors are throughout. Linens are provided and a washer/dryer is available for guest use at the Cottage.

Our stay was perfect and the home was beautiful. David was a most gracious host and even waited up until almost midnight for us the night we arrived in Summerville from KY. Perfect for our anniversary week in Charleston, immaculate and with everything we needed, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The neighborhood was beautiful too, with gorgeous Southern homes and amazing Live Oak trees that we certainly don't have in KY! Hghly recommended!
We stayed the week while awaiting the completion of renovations on our home. Everything was great about our stay. Great restoration on an old piece of history we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility provided us by our host Mr. Price. Ask him for the history lesson if you visit.
I stayed for two weeks while I was in between selling my house and moving into my new place! Amenities and everything were great! It was perfect! The only need I had was for a full length mirror but not a huge deal!

Perfect for our needs
This is a fantastic place. We stayed a full week and had everything we needed. Towels, sheets, full kitchen and laundry. Located close to town and in a quiet neighborhood. Private area with table, chairs, beautiful garden right outside our door. If we return to this area we would most definitely stay here.

It is a pleasure for us to provide a superb experience for our guests.
Price House Cottage was great for our Charleston visit! Cottage was exactly as listed and more. Loved sitting in the garden for morning coffee and later in the day after visiting Charleston. Loved the character of the cottage. David was easy to communicate with and he was very helpful with any questions. Would definitely stay here again!
This cottage was truly a home away from home since I am out of my home due to storm damage. It had everything I needed for a 6-week stay. The atmosphere was exceptional surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens. Located in the historic district, the neighborhood setting is charming and the cottage itself is updated and cozy with wonderful walking trails to invigorate my small dog. A truly comfortable retreat.
I just love this little cottage! Decorated beautifully, located close to town and parks. The neighborhood is just absolutely gorgeous! The cottage I could live in for the rest of my life. The owners were wonderful! The cottage had everything I needed and more. It took a morning and evening walk through the park and into town.
This little cottage was exactly as described and pictured. We enjoyed our stay immensely. It is very quiet and hidden from the street. We picked this spot to be close to Charleston without the hustle and bustle of the city. Even Summerville was a quaint little town. Highly recommend this cottage for a week long stay. Would stay here again on another visit to Charleston.

This charming cottage is a the ideal hideaway, whether touring Summerville or visiting friends and family. With a private drive and secluded patio one can enjoy the area with a unusual degree of independence. The hosts, who are wonderful people, have thought of everything - great lighting to enjoy the little library, crisp sheets and soft towels, nice toiletries, and a organized kitchen. The cleanliness and comfort of this cottage are a pleasure and the gardens are the icing on the cake. The hosts have created the ideal get-away.
We stayed at PHC for almost a month, waiting for our new home to be built. As we are Midwesterners, everything about the area was new and exciting. This location did not disappoint! Walks into town for coffee, dinner, the farmer’s market were all 5-10 minutes away. Our dog loved his walks thru Azalea Park, especially once he realized the statues in the park were not going to move! Trips to the Kiawah Beachwalker Park were an easy and beautiful drive. The cottage was stocked with everything we needed, including a washer and dryer, comfortable sitting area, updated bath and plenty of ceiling fans.
On the grounds of the cottage the gardens are lovely. The patio and gas grill were used frequently. The noisy frogs initially were quite shocking, but we grew to love them! 😅
All in all we had a wonderful time in Summerville and would recommend staying here!

Nice furnishings in a quaint, upscale area.
The cottage seemed comfortable, and the owners seemed nice, and the surrounding area is great. But, when we rented the cottage for a month, the owner told me the outside was scheduled to be painted while we were there. Painting would have been fine, however what the owner failed to mention was the cottage was to be going through major exterior repairs including the cedar planks being removed from the structure with power tools 5 days a week, and old paint being removed with SMOKE! They dismantled the smoke detectors in the cottage for the entire month we were there, due to the vast amount of smoke filling the cottage on a daily basis. We finally said they needed to stop the smoke after paying the full balance of the monthly rent (we had nowhere else to go).
Again, everyone seemed nice, but the power tools, the noise, the construction materials, and smoke, including the interior smoke detectors being dismantled in an 1812 structure, should have been disclosed upfront.

We are sorry that our guests were disappointed and chose to express it in this manner. The guests were anxious to find a place to stay that was "pet friendly" during the interim between selling their house in another location and moving into a yet to be completed house here. They were told up front that the Cottage was scheduled to begin a restoration paint job and that our one professional painter would be removing old paint. They were also told that we could stop that process at anytime if it became an annoyance. Our painter asked each day prior to working on the Cottage if it was OK to do so. Once they indicated that the odor of the burning paint was an issue, the painter ceased that work there and switched to other projects on the property away from the Cottage. The only power tools used were the heat element which makes no noise and a sander which was used for only a few hours. Regarding the removal of damaged clapboards, this process involved removing about 6 short boards in the corner of the lean to utility room to expose the underlying studs and involved less than half of one day of work. We attempted to stay in communication with the guests about the ongoing work and redirected work elsewhere once they registered concern. Our painter works fairly much full time for us and has for many years. He is very aware of the importance of keeping guests happy.
BTW--the guests misrepresented their request to bring a pet with them. They stated that their dog was less than 20# and was definitely much larger. They also brought an undisclosed cat. There was additional cleaning involved during and after the stay for Kitty Litter, finding hidden cat play toys, and cat fur. We did not choose to exercise the additional charge for extra cleaning which we could have done.
We have, and always will work with our guests to ensure the wonderful stay that our previous guests have always experienced and written about.

Hosted by David and Jennifer Price
David came to Summerville in 1974 to practice ophthalmology which he did as a solo general ophthalmologist until 'retiring' in 2012 to take a position caring for veterans and active duty service personnel at a joint eye clinic for the VA and DoD at the Naval Weapons Station. Jennifer is an Operating Room nurse and interior decorator and is the person responsible for the decorating and design touches on the property.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with the property at first sight; the old house to lovingly and properly restore, the avenue of live oaks leading to the main house and a lovely community that I could easily become a part of. I have not been disappointed.
What makes this property unique
The Cottage is a place of peace and quiet in a town that still has a village feel despite being less than 30 minutes from the Historic District of Charleston and even closer to the Historic Ashley River Plantation/Gardens of Middleton, Magnolia and Drayton Hall. There are many interesting small shops and several nice casual eating places within walking distance of the Cottage. The Cottage is situated in the midst of a very large block with most properties being larger than 1 acre, so there is very much a feeling of being in the country. It is an opportunity to experience Charleston and the Low Country of South Carolina and yet return to a more peaceful, less hectic environment at the end of a day in beautiful Historic Charleston.
