A delightful family farmhouse set in 17 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside.
A lovely Grade II listed farmhouse set in 17 acres of rolling countryside near the pretty town of Beaminster. Sleeps 13, with sitting room, dining room, kids playroom, Aga in the kitchen, chickens, a tree house and trampoline. 15 mins from the Jurassic coast and beaches, walking distance from the village and award winning restaurants. The kitchen is large, with original flagstone floor, seats 8 easily with room for more tables, and has a 4 door Aga, and masses of cupboard space, this leads to a cosy kids playroom, stacked with toys, puzzles and DVDs. Hall is flagstoned and has a loo with washing and drying machines. The hall leads to the dining room. This is flagstoned with a wood burner, large fireplace, baby grand piano and dining table seats 12-14 people with room for further table. This follows onto another hall, entrance to the garden and patio area, another loo and the sitting room, which has Tv/Sky/Wifi large fireplace, woodburner and original features. There are 2 sets of stairs in the house to the first floor where there is a kids bathroom (smaller) with shower, bath and loo, a very big bathroom (bath, separate shower, and loo) 4 double rooms and one single room . Up some steep wooden steps is the attic bedroom that's split into two areas, one with two singles and then a double bed in the second half. Wantsley is a comfortable lived-in family farmhouse, not a chic hotel or rent-only house. We live here most of the year, except for August, Christmas and occasionally Easter. We often have chickens on the property, the presence of which is as much controlled by us as by how hungry the foxes are. The chickens are completely free-range so might pop up anywhere. Depending on mood and season they will provide eggs in exchange for remembering to feed them :).

Excellent house in an amazing setting. Check in was great, any queries we had beforehand were promptly dealt with by Charlotte. There was every pot, pan, utensil etc you could ever need. Ideal location, only 20mins to nearest beach.
The house is full of character with lots of space and the kitchen has absolutely everything that you could want. The garden and grounds are brilliant. We are all going to miss the chickens! The house is close to so many activities and many different beaches but in its own tranquil spot. Thank you to our welcoming and helpful hosts.
We thorougly enjoyed our stay in October half term .The house is very family friendly, the kitchen easily accomodated 12, and the children loved collecting eggs from the hens. The rooms are all a good size and there were plenty of bathrooms. The Aga in the kitchen was a new experience for us ladies, but we soon got the hang of it and the kitchen was always warm and cosy. The grounds are extensive and the nearby village has some convenient shops. The children did very well trick or treating there.I would definitely recommend this house for large families.
What a wonderful house, perfect place for extended family holiday. Very spacious and spread out. Really enjoyed the large well kept garden. Kitchen was very well equipped. Beds very comfy. House made interesting with the many photos, artwork and family collections. The free roaming chickens made it for everyone. Hosts promptly replied to all my questions. Highly recommend.
this was an excellent letting and that is why i gave 5 stars for almost every aspect of our stay, there was so much to do in the house that if you did not want to venture out into the beautiful Dorset countryside you didn't have to. however, as the zip line was out of action and tree house ladder taken down, the only other outdoor apparatus left for children(both young and old)were the swings and trampoline, which unfortunately surrounded by nettles, a small point i know but felt i should mention it. our stay was fabulous in so many other ways . *****

Dear Peter, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry about the zip line, a tree fell on the wire so we removed it from the description, but I imagine your booking preceded the event. Regarding the tree house I'm a little puzzled as there has never been a ladder, it's accessed from the a door at the back up the bank - so sorry you didn't find that. Yes nettles are a constant and quite often losing battle, we cut them right back at the beginning of summer (we don't like to spray) but it doesn't keep them at bay for long. Hope it didn't spoil your stay.
Wantsley Farm offers good accommodation and grounds for a family vacation and is within easy distance of Dorset beaches. The house is well lived in, the dishwasher could be temperamental and the kitchen floor was not properly cleaned. We had a good family holiday and enjoyed the grounds and the chickens. But it was marred by alleged damage to a carpet ( for which we have not yet had photo evidence ) which was made in a manner which questioned our integrity. For that reason I would not recommend the property.

We're so sorry you felt compelled to give us a two star review and that you had issues with the dishwasher. I believe one of the wands was dislodged, hence it being temperamental, the guests who came after you mentioned they had fixed it, which was the first we heard about it. That's very sad about the kitchen floor which is scrubbed each week, I'm very sorry it was not clean enough. I do hope you don't feel we questioned your integrity regarding the burnt carpet, and I'm so sorry you have yet to receive pictures which I will remedy. It's just that it wasn't burnt before your stay and it was discovered by the cleaning company the day you left. I don't for a moment think it was something you personally were aware of and concealed. Sometime with large parties it's hard to keep track of what everyone is up to. It's simply that it was fine prior to your visit and badly damaged by the end of your visit. We're so sorry it marred your stay to such an extent.
Lovely rambling farmhouse dating back to early 1600s but nicely modernized. Perfect spot for Christmas with two families. Big kitchen with aga and large fridge (essential for 14 people over Christmas). Cozy sitting rooms, plenty of bathrooms. The grounds were perfect for a dog walk. Really delighted with this place - couldn’t have imagined a better spot for a country Christmas. The house is comfortable, crammed with books and really interesting art work (fantastic photography!). There was only one chicken when we were there but we did get a few eggs.
Charlie was extremely responsive to our questions, but most were pre-empted by a very detailed book about the property, a pdf of which was sent before we arrived. The house is in the countryside but only 2 miles from Beaminster which had a few nice shops, pubs and a small spar and co-op.
Thank you also for the Christmas goodies on our arrival.
Highly recommended!!

Liked: Cleanliness, location
Disliked: Check-in
A spacious house in a great location, BUT!
There is much to be critical of. Considering the eye watering rental cost it was disappointing that so much was incomplete, missing or broken. The lovely outside eating area was spoiled by a bench that was completely unstable through lack of repair. A bbq without an ash pan to collect spent charcoal, no comfortable seating to lounge in the lovely garden. Broken outdoor dining chairs and so on. It is not surprising that there are disclaimers all over the place.

Dear Adrian, many thanks for your candid review, it’s always good to have feedback so as to improve our home for guests. Excellent point about comfy outdoor seating and one we will address straight away, sorry it was too late for your stay. The bench likewise is being replaced. This has been our hottest summer to date so I dare say we will adjust to the new normal and do our very best to make the house and garden as lovely and indeed comfy as we can. Best wishes Charlie, Tim and the boys.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the house and gardens at this family friendly farm house only a short drive to the beach. The zip wire and swings were awesome and lower lawn great for team sports. More than enough to keep 6 children occupied.
Perfect place for a three-generation family get-together, in a comfortable well-appointed house with beautiful and extensive surroundings offering safe provision for children to play and to experience freedom and nature.
We had a wonderful week staying here, the location was perfect for all ages to go off and do their own thing and meet in the evening for a big dinner and sit around a log fire and catching up. The kids loved the stream and field to play in and the coast being so close.
I would thoroughly recommend this property for a large family gathering. There is everything available you could wish for to have an enjoyable time. The house and garden are amazing and we feel privileged to have stayed here. It also gave us the opportunity to visit lots of places in Dorset and Devon.
Beautiful Farmhouse in the Heart of the Countryside
This is a spacious family house with every modern convenience
Ideal for our large family group
Comfortably furnished very homely with fascinating eclectic mix of artwork and collections from the owners travels which added to the interest and uniqueness
Plenty of space to spread out and we really enjoyed the grounds
Needed a car roads not really suitable for walking but the nearby towns and villages are only a few minutes away and have all you could want
We had a wonderful week would highly recommend and would book again
Beautiful downland location. Interesting historic house. Great outside space, for playing cricket and rounders with the kids and lovely garden for eating outside. 20min to nice beaches. Chickens great for fresh eggs, but they leave their mark around the property. As stated in the description, it is a family home
This home has to be what VRBO is all about: a very comfortable and stylish stay getting to know the local highlights. Our children adored the chickens, crabbing, looking for fossils, foraging and fishing. We loved the natural beauty of the area, the friendliness of the locals, the comfortable beds and the fresh eggs for breakfast. The owners are lovely people and were so happy to have their home for the week. We will definitely be back!
Wantsley Farm is truely a wonderful family house with so much space, character and charm. The grounds are amazing and are perfect for little gandsons to play all day - whether it was the tree house, zip wire, swings, football or chcickens. There is something for them all to do.
We had a party of 12 - 7 adults and 5 grandsons and there was so much space inside for us to all find our "own space".
Suppers were amazing in the large farmhouse kitchen.
Charlie and Tim were very attentive if we needed anything.
All in all, a family holiday to remember.
Thank you.
Had a lovely stay, gardens were fantastic. The kids all lived the swings, tree house and trampoline. Would love to stay again at some point in the future!
We stayed with our extended family including my elderly parents and a 3 and 1 year old. The house was very welcoming and homely, there are nice walks just off the doorstep and the chickens provided entertainment for the little ones!
Beautiful house with fantastic grounds. Great for children and adults. Really enjoyed looking after chickens and geese. House is spacious and comfortable. Owners went to a lot of trouble to make us feel welcome. Would highly recommend. Lovely area with plenty to do in all weathers.

Beautiful Dorset Oasis
We felt honoured and privileged to be renting this beautiful farmhouse, surrounded by all the photos and artefacts of the owners’ fascinating lives... Not forgetting the inquisitive chickens and ducks, whose fresh eggs made the tastiest of breakfasts... the rooms were cosy, the grounds great and safe for the children to play in and explore, the house wants for nothing... We relaxed into the week and felt immediately at home. Altogether fabulous, thank you so much Charlie and Tim. We can not recommend you highly enough xx

Unique experience
Breathtaking property. Find time to walk to through the fields to The New Inn. My girls met and fed delightful donkeys, saved a sheep caught in a fence, played soccer til we fell down laughing, and cooked eggs til we burst!

About the host
Hosted by Charlotte Booth
I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two adorable boys. We have converted an old barn into an aerial silks studio and photographic studio so we now run circus and photography camps from home. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside that we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.
Why they chose this property
This is just one of many similar reviews we have had: 'Charlie and Tim's farmhouse is an amazing place for a big family holiday. Everyone in our party was thrilled by the sheer amount of space, both inside and outside the house. The hosts are very generous in sharing the contents of their fabulous home and there's plenty to do in both good and bad weather. The lawn is perfect for cricket and football, the rope swings kept the kids amused and we enjoyed feeding the chickens and tracking down their eggs (rarely in the nesting box). Inside there are lots of toys and games as well as relaxing space for adults. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped with a warming aga (useful for a British summer), there's multiple bathrooms (with very soft towels) and the beds are very comfy. Despite the rather rainy weather we had a lovely few days here. Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis are all nearby and Beaminster is very pretty. I would thoroughly recommend this house for a memorable family holiday'
What makes this property unique
Wantsley Cottage is a stand-out holiday rental. Beautifully converted from an old barn by the owners, it's full of character. Exposed stone walls and oak beams make it a far cry from usual rental cottages. The property also benefits from access to 15 acres of private fields and woodland, perfect for kids to run wild in. Free-range chickens wander about the grounds (numbers vary depending on fox activity), there's a stream to paddle in and rope swings to keep the kids happy. Deer graze in the fields (very shy and flighty) and there's a rough nature trail through the woods for the adventurous. The local village is charming and beautiful, with a traditional butcher, baker and greengrocer, as well as some top notch restaurants, and of course a scattering of local pubs. The coast is just 15-20 minutes drive away and there is simply masses to do, from fossil hunting, to climbing, golf overlooking the sea, boat and fishing trips, donkey rides, soft-play centre, swimming pools and even a vineyard to visit. The local town of Bridport has a twice-weekly traditional market and is packed with restaurants, coffee houses, delightful cafes and has no less than three theatres. Lyme Regis with it's famous Cobb and harbour has a good swimming beach (though there a many others along the coast) masses of galleries and restaurants, and is just 20 minutes away. All of this is set in some of the most beautiful rolling countryside in the U.K.
