About this property

An old hillside cottage, with a beautiful pool and stunning views

Walnut is a lovely stone cottage that sits as part of a small cluster of buildings on gentle slope next to its sister cottage Truffle, on the edge of the traditional working hamlet of Le Peyruzel. The outline of the 13th century Chateau Peyruzel is ever present as it looks down across the valley. It is fair to say that the best position of our entire cluster of properties is to be had from the terrace of Walnut! It is in a truly tranquil spot where you can relax unwind and watch the evening sunsets set in as the sky fills with the colours of the fading light. You have a lovely private terrace where you can eat and relax and your own personal entrance into the pool area. The 9 x 5m pool is heated from May to October. It sits in the most perfect location. It has plenty of terrace space on two sides and the most incredible views. In most of the Spring and Summer season it benefits from the sun all day long with a little corner of shade if you need it. The sun sets behind Le Peyruzel and so you can enjoy lovey warm afternoon and late swims after a hard days sight-seeing. The pool is fitted with an electric security cover and is also fully enclosed with self closing gates for added safety. The cottage is very comfortable inside with lots of exposed stone, wood and beams and the kitchen is handmade and incorporates the original stall and trough as it was once an old cattle byre. The tiled floor ensures it stays cool in the Summer. We hope we have thought of everything you will need to create a home away from home including free WiFi.
A couple of steps down will lead you into a charming snug sitting room with high ceilings and windows on three sides. There is a comfortable sofa, armchair tables and bureau It is fitted with satellite TV and DVD player. Upstairs you will find a very generous master bedroom with a huge and very comfortable bed, high ceilings and window at each end make this a very light and relaxing room. A big wardrobe and chest of drawers ensure you have plenty of space for everything. The second bedroom is another high ceilinged room with full size bunk beds, hanging storage and chest of drawers. The shower room is fitted with a big corner shower with hand held and rain head shower plus loo and basin.
PLEASE NOTE
It is possible to book both our gites Walnut & Truffle together to enjoy as two families. this will give a total capacity of 9 (plus a baby if required) you will then have exclusivity of the pool.

I moved to France to live permanently in 2016 with my husband Jerry and our Working Cocker Spaniel Inca. It's hard not to fall in love with this area. We had explored this region on holiday when our children were very young and again 20 years later when they were all grown up. Our attraction to the Perigord Noir had never diminished and so now we find ourselves living our own little dream and having an amazing French adventure.
Le Peyruzel is a special spot, it remains very unspoiled and operates as a working farming community, crops here are mainly Walnut groves, but also wheat, barley, hay, maize, and sunflowers too. Our properties sit nestled on the slopes and enjoy the most amazing views across the Ceou valley and beyond. The properties are about 200 years old and formed a cluster of ancient farm buildings, they have been lovingly restored from dereliction by the previous owners over a period of 20 years and have operated as gites for many years. A new pool was created in 2017 built into the slope and now benefits from heating giving it a longer season. It is generally ready in May through to October. This has been a most welcome addition to the property.

Why they chose this property

The thing that sold this property to us was the character of the buildings themselves, the quality of their renovation and the views. When you drive in you just feel peaceful, relaxed and at home.... it’s as simple as that!

What makes this property unique

Location, location, location….to be in such a perfect spot and yet so close to so many of the regions gems is what makes Le Peyruzel a special place. We are within 20 minutes drive of most of the regions highlight attractions for example, Domme, Sarlat, Milandes, Marqueyssac, Castelnaud, Beynac, La Roque Gageac.
