Our farmhouse was built in 1793 and renovated early in the 21st century. It offers all the modern amenities, but in a historic setting. The house has 5 bedrooms, including a master suite, and ample common spaces, including a huge kitchen with a six burner stove and two ovens, an enclosed porch perfect for meals on a summer evening, a pool, a large pond, and 10+ acres of well-maintained park. Please note, our house sits close to a highway. There is plenty of greenery to maintain privacy, but traffic is sometimes audible.
The house itself is filled with lovely 18th century details – wide-timbered wood floors, exposed beams, tiny nooks – but it's also roomy and comfortable. There are five bedrooms (one in the attic) and many common spaces – a living room, sitting room, open kitchen/dining area, enclosed porch, home studio, and large patio. The house sits on a sixteen acre plot, and much of that land is ready to be explored. There's also a pool next to our historic barn. The house sleeps ten. We recently installed solar panels on the barn, because we're committed to making Sweetbrier more sustainable.

The property was well stocked and perfect for our needs. We had enough space to spread out and yet felt close enough to enjoy everyone’s company! We will stay here again!
Staying at Sweetbrier Farm is a walk back in time, imagining how people lived in the 1700's. Thankfully, the beautiful old home has been completed updated, but without losing its antique charm. It was a bit chilly for us to explore the entire property, but just observing the grounds from inside was lovely. The beds were comfortable, there were plenty of "gathering" spaces for the 6 of us to be together (and apart) and the kitchen had everything we needed. The only downside was the traffic noise we heard from the bedrooms at night.
This was a perfect respite to bring my daughter, her family and dear friends for a weekend of connecting and togetherness. A gorgeous property. Although we had rain all weekend, the sun peeked out long enough for my grandson to catch (and release!) a few fish in the pond. Loved every minute.
We loved our time at Sweetbriar Farms. It was quintessential Litchfield! We found ourselves spending all of our time in the kitchen/family room space. The property was perfect for our work retreat. Plenty of room for everyone. Great getaway.
This is the second time we’ve stayed at this property in a picture perfect setting. We had another beautiful stay with everything we needed. It’s the perfect setting to cozy up and cook with everything we needed to quickly reset and spend quality time with our management team to connect, cook, and relax. The fireplace helps provide a warming backdrop to a perfect setting with tranquil views of the sprawling backyard in a historical home, we highly recommend and will likely return for a third time in the future!

A magnificent old country farm house beautifully restored.
This rambling country home is situated on a lovely setting with nearby pond. Lots of room for guests, an incredible spa/bathroom off the master bedroom, roaring fireplace in the dining room and great working kitchen. I would have liked more working fireplaces in the other two sitting rooms, but, otherwise, our Thanksgiving week rental was most satisfying and the owner could not be more helpful.

Thank you for staying with us! It was a pleasure to host you!
This old farm house was everything we expected and more. Just beware you may get lost in the house a few times when you first arrive, lots of rooms and areas to explore. Larissa one of the cleaners was there when we arrived and she was friendly and beyond helpful. They definitely went above and beyond paying attention to details, from the furniture and decor to having everything you may need during your stay. If I could give this property 10 stars, i would! Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
Beautiful farmhouse - our family stayed in February of 2024 and there was a lot of snow - this house was perfect - held up to the elements magnificently - comes with a strong central heating unit that warmed the entire house and an awesome fireplace in the family room. The garage was full of firewood and we needed nothing. The driveway did get frozen over and caked with snow. We unfortunately rented a rear wheel drive Ford Explorer and had some difficulty getting out of the driveway, but then a hero appeared and scraped and salted the driveway. I was so thankful and he said "all part of the service" he works for Harmony
See rooms were equipped with everything we needed special mention of the kitchen and the amount of seating areas. It was helpful for our family to be able to spread out and enjoy ourselves with lots of space. We visited during the off-season, so did not get to enjoy the pool. Look forward to returning in the summer months!
My family was absolutely impressed with the view, size and authenticity of this home. It was so homey yet like living in another century. Too bad the weather didn't allow us to appreciate more of the outside. It was rainy and cold. Words cannot express how happy we were. Thank you!
We came out to Connecticut to spend time with our son and grandchildren that live here. I wanted a place that would allow all of us to have room to be together. The house and property was perfect for our needs. Such an amazing home and the grounds are beautiful! I'd highly recommend a stay here!
Enjoyed a 2-day stay here for business. We all talked about what a great place it would be for a large family gathering. Could imagine it being the right spot for a small outdoor wedding. The house is full of interesting architectural details and furnishings. Nice grounds with good views. There was also a great wifi connection in the house--something we haven't had in other Litchfield County homes.
House easily slept 7 of us comfortably. Property owners were helpful and even gave recommendations for activities in the area. Beautiful house and yard.
We spent two nights at this wonderful home. We wish we could have spent an entire week here. The property is beautiful, and the house itself is very interesting. We loved exploring the unique features of the home, that was very comfortable and well stocked with all the amenities we needed.
The house and property are both amazingly well maintained. The home feels like you’ve taken a step back in time some 250 years, but is also very comfortable. It was hard for our family and, two young kids to leave. Looking forward to another stay at Sweat Briar Farm!
Our stay at Sweetbrier Farm was rejuvenating. Amazing property with tons of rooms to share space, or spread out for peace, or both. Great kitchen with ample supplies and powerful gas stove where we cooked a lot in our short stay. Beautiful, historical rooms were a trip back in time with newer rooms mixed in for a unique feel. We would happily come back to stay or recommend this home to families or groups. Litchfield and Sweetbrier Farm is a wonderful place to find some reprieve.
Everything was so easy! This house looked exactly like the pictures and the home has clearly been taken well cared for over the years. The indoor and outdoor space were plenty. The house had everything we needed and was in working order. The yard is beautiful and provided additional space for us to enjoy the outdoors. We will come back when the pool is open!
Beautiful property, great stay for a wedding at near by South Farms. Great space for a lot of people and good amenities
