The apartment is charming. Accessed off of a leafy courtyard, the space is quiet, cool and roomy, with colourful decor and comfortable furnishings. The kitchen has everything you need and looks out to a private outdoor space; the windows throughout the home ensure the space is bright and fresh. I enjoyed the neighbourhood; it is as beautiful as it is interesting, many lovely restaurants and cafes and the walk to centro is easy. The host, William, was helpful and kind and ensured I had what I needed to feel at home. The rooftop space is incredible too- I can't say enough about this special place.
Lovely tranquil place. We liked the llocation a lot. The neighborhood ihas great street art and it's about a 15 minute walk to any of the sites. Appreciated having the kitchen facilities even though we did not use them too much because of all the amazing restaurants. Wonderful rooftop deck.
A wonderful place to stay. William and Nora were absolutely amazing hosts. The location is perfect for a quite vacation within walking distance to everything you might need. I absolutely recommend staying here.
Excellent apartment! Hosts William and Nora live onsite and obviously take great pride in their home. William is a bountiful source of information that he shares willingly. The location is on a quiet side street, but conveniently located to restaurants, local Mercado Merced, and small shops. It is an easy walk to the Zocalo and center of town for more restaurants, markets and shopping. El Catedral Restaurant is highly recommended. Nora has cooking classes 3 days a week, and we participated one day. Interesting, informative, hands-on class, and a delicious mealat the end. We highly recommend this VRBO and would enjoy returning.
Such a wonderful place to stay. Exactly what we needed as a home base to explore Oaxaca for our first visit. Loved the room and the upstairs patio to sit and read and plan our adventures.
This is a great place to stay. The location in Jalatlaco is ideally located close to restaurants, bars, activities and beautiful murals on every corner. The owner, William ,is a great guy and was very helpful with suggestions for activities and restaurants. The little casa is comfortable and cozy. Highly recommended!
This apartment was a treat: furnished and styled with a wonderful aesthetic, the space itself is equally artistically designed and feels spacious. With access to a nice roof terrace, it has it all. William, the host, is always available for any questions and for introducing the city- without being obtrusive. His wife Nora leads a dont miss tour to Ocotlon and craft studios. She is indigenous Zapotec and brings a valuable and deep insight into the cultures and history of Oaxaca. The apartment is located in Jaletlaco, near an amazing bakery, coffee shops and the La Merced Mercado. Best location. Water pressure here is low but serviceable.
Loved staying here! The hosts are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The apartment is cozy and neat and there’s a great terrace to sit on and read, chat, or play games. Definitely recommend!
Cozy safe comfortable nook in the heart of a picturesque barrio
Comfortable private safe .william our host was able and willing to give friendly advice ,direction , and recommendations on what to see and do and how to get there.we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in oaxaca
'Had a wonderful time staying at William and Nora's apartment in Jalatlaco, Oaxaca! William is an excellent host and available to answer questions about the local neighborhood and the apartment. The apartment is very cozy and clean and the neighborhood is quiet. There are many wonderful restaurants very close by. We will be staying with them when we visit Oaxaca again!
William, Nora and Bella were superb! William was very helpful and friendly. We also took advantage of Nora's cooking class and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the market, the spices and new recipes.
We spent 3 weeks here over Christmas and New Year and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Oaxaca. Hosts William and Nora were most accommodating and we partook of Nora's cooking class and expertise as a group tour leader. The accommodation was as described, clean and comfortable and we particularly enjoyed the shaded rooftop terrace as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The property is exactly as it appears in the pictures. Quintessential Mexico. William is very helpful and the property is very well cared for. Sitting on the roof top mirador every evening was a delight. The location is within an easy walk of serveral restaurants, coffee places, a tiendita as well as a wine shop. We loved the Mercado Merced, much more enjoyable that the big market in the center of Oaxaca. Hopefully we can return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at William and Nora’s apartment. It’s located in a charming neighborhood, and the hosts are long-time residents who are exceptionally gracious and helpful. The apartment was spotless and cozy, with a beautiful courtyard and relaxing rooftop terrace. The beds are very firm (which is fantastic if that’s your preference). The water is hot, with adequate pressure (but more would be nice). The WiFi is strong and reliable. You will enjoy a quiet, restful stay. Would highly recommend and gladly stay here again!
What a great place to stay! William and Nora are friendly and helpful hosts, giving great advice on nearby attractions. William arranged a great tour of Monte Albán for us. Nora’s cooking class was a highlight of our stay. Bella the bulldog is a sweetheart and will greet you in the courtyard. Beautiful courtyard filled with bright flowers and a rooftop terrace are available for your enjoyment. Lots of restaurants nearby and short walk to centro. We highly recommended and look forward to staying again.
The apartment is perfectly placed to visit Centro and other neighborhoods. The jalataco neighborhood is filled with beautiful wall murals. It was fun walking around and discovering them.
The apartment is a cozy place where we enjoyed using as our base to discover Oaxaca. There is also a wonderful rooftop terrace. It was the perfect spot to sit at the end of the day.
Beautiful property with a vibrant design mixed with comfort and privacy.
We were able to walk to centro and further. Nora and William were gracious hosts and eager to answer all our questions. A must to do is onebof Nora's cooking classes.
This is the perfect place to stay in Oaxaca. The apartment has all the vibrant qualities of the city, but is at the same time quiet, secluded and comfortable. We’ve made our home away from home and plan to keep going back. Beautifully decorated, conveniently designed and just a short walk to the center of the lively barrio of Jalatlaco. Hosts William and Nora run a tight ship, and everything is fully functional. They are friendly, welcoming and available for all needs and questions.

Wonderful host! Very comfortable apartment and location.
We greatly enjoyed our stay in Oaxaca in part because of the comfort of this apartment: very quiet street, close to the center, and nice apartment with vernacular touches. Additional fun was access to the roof terrace and lime tree... The host provided all the necessary basics including drinking water. One discomfort for "spoiled newyorkers": low water pressure.

Thank you for your review! It was great to have met you both and we hope to have the pleasure to host you in the future.
As for the water pressure, being also from NY I know what you mean, but apart from high end hotels, very large cities and resort areas, the rest of Mexico still relies on gravity pressure. The tanks for your apartment are on the 3rd story, way higher than most of the homes in Oaxaca, and at that height gives more than enough pressure for everyday use, 9.9 psi from tank to shower-head to be exact. It's not the 30 -60 psi we're used to back in the city, but remember, we're talking about taking a shower. Thank you.
We loved our stay with William and Nora. They have provided a charming, clean, safe space that in our opinion is perfectly located. They have plenty of great recommendations and are well connected with local providers. Nora's cooking class was a highlight. Her mole is to die for! The terrace is a special place to just chill and have a coffee or snack. The rooms are very comfortable and the bed was amazing. So much to do in Oaxaca and not enough time so we will be back. We will re-book if the apartment is available. Communication was great and a very small issue was immediately handled. Don't hesitate to book. It books EXTREMELY fast for a reason!!
Wonderful neighborhood and excellent accommodation.
Our apartment exceeded our expectations in every way. Super comfy king-size bed with high quality linens ensured our comfort every night for amazing sleeps. Located in one of the most colorful and interesting neighborhoods of Oaxaca City. Coffee shops, restaurants and art galleries everywhere. Wonderful hosts who are always nearby if you need anything. A super bonus, if you are a dog lover, is their beloved Bella. She loves to say hi and greet you with lots of tail wags. This apartment has everything you might need and more. A full kitchen with stove and oven. A safe, beautiful and comfortable place to call your home away from home.
This lovely little two-room flat was a wonderful base for our 4-week stay in Oaxaca. We particularly enjoyed the rooftop terrace. The bathroom is recently and elegantly remodeled. William, Nora (and Bella!) are wonderful hosts, with wide connections among the local arts and tourist support services. William was unfailingly ready with good advice about what to do, where to eat, and etc. Don't miss the chance to take a class or a tour with Nora!
Jalatlaco is a terrific, walkable neighborhood with plenty of places to eat and a friendly market for food shopping.
The amenities present in the flat didn't quite match those listed when we booked the apartment, and we were left unclear on things like whether or not we needed to buy our own toilet paper. Not a huge deal, and easily fixed.
I do recommend that William and Nora spend an *evening* trying to dine, watch TV, work, or read in the lounge area. The cute little blue sofa is uncomfortable --the cushion literally slides out from under you, and there's no place to set a cup of coffee or glass of wine. The TV is set too high, and there's no light for reading. It would also be nice if one of the two lights hung over the table and if there were mosquito netting on the living room window to make the space usable at night. The inner lightwell porch makes the space lovely in the daytime.
Would 100% stay there again --but bring a Poang chair to sit in!

About the host
Hosted by William Frederick Gutierrez
My wife Nora was born and raised in Oaxaca city, and I am originally from NYC with roots on my fathers side from the Oaxaca valley. Nora was raised with guest in her home where her parents hosted students form distant villages throughout the year. In 1994 my wife and I tuned her parents 10 bedroom room into one of the family's 2 B&B's while at the same time began renting out our two apartments located on our property just a few blocks away. We saw a need of many of the B&B guest wanting to have extended stays yet also wanted a place to prepare their own meals as an option.
