A lovely, light and airy, ground floor apartment, superbly equipped with everything you need, in a block of 4, situated in the village square, close to the beach and coastal footpath. Sleeps 2- 4 people in comfort. A perfect place in the centre of the beautiful village of Branscombe for a peaceful and relaxing holiday and an ideal base for exploring this wonderful area of East Devon and the Jurassic Coast. Due to the challenging circumstances of CV19, the apartment will be thoroughly cleaned between guests and all hard surfaces wiped down. The countryside is excellent for walks with minimal social interaction and the apartment is well equipped for self catering. The quiet, unspoilt beach is a 5 minute stroll away alongside a stream, with just one thatched roof cafe, with outside seating area, serving delightful home cooked food. Fishing trips are available from the fishing village of Beer, 3 miles away. There is a real ale pub close by, also with an outside eating area. The kitchen is very well equipped for those of you who like to do your own cooking. The sleeping accommodation consists of a comfortable double bedroom and a second bedroom with bunk beds. Lovely apartment. Great size for a family everything catered for and amazing location. Beach walks great pub all withing walking distance. Would definitely recommend
First visit to Branscombe and the property was perfect for our mini break, very clean and had everything we needed. Location is perfect for the beach (just a short 5-10min) walk and for the coastal path. We would definately return.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Branscombe is a hidden gem and I look forward to hosting you again.
A short stay but we wish it could have been longer! The apartment is cozy and comfortable, easy parking and conveniently located across the street from the Masons Arms Inn where we had the best meals we’ve had in a long time. We had a beautiful walk down to the beach at Branscombe and a longer hike to the nearby town of Beer. Five stars all around!

Thank you for such a positive review. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Property is clean and comfortable. Pity there is no outdoor space. This isn't made clear before booking. Photos are confusing. Most are of the village and show patio area that doesn't belong to the property
Revisited Branscombe after 31 years. Still a beautiful little village. The apartment met our expectations. The location was great. Close to paths, the pub and a short walk to the beach. Would not hesitate to stay there again.
Clean, quiet flat with lots to do in surrounding area
The property was clean, quiet and had everything we needed for a lovely stay. There are lots of things to do in the local area, such as Beer Pecorama, the Donkey Sanctuary Sidmouth, Seaton Tramway and Beer Quarry Caves We also visited both Branscombe and Beer beaches, as well as walking sections of the South West coast path. We had a great week and were very sorry to leave!
Groundfloor flat, parking on the front for 1 car. Set in valley .Well equipped for couple/family.Within walking distance to beach approx. 10-+15 mins.pretty footpath alongside a brook .Beach cafe and car park, loos etc. Also country eating pub within 50yds away, very quiet location.central for visiting Beer,Sidmouth,Seaton.
Appartment had everything we needed.
Location was fantastic, lovely short walk to the Beach en beautyful Environment overall. Nice to have the pub/ restaurant around the corner. No mobile network, but perfect wifi (once we found the right code)
Some of the rental info needs updating: wifi-code has changed, and there is no incoming phoneline for emergency calls.

Hi Marije, I'm glad you liked the apartment and the location. Thank you for your review. i have updated the info as you suggested
I am an American Morris Musician who was performing at a folk festival in Sidmouth, only a short ride from Branscombe. I was looking for something a little off the beaten path. I was only sorry that I didn't have more time to explore the quiet and quaint town, including the very lovely-looking pub that was just a short walk from my door. Jean provided me with everything I needed in the flat for cooking and even tons of entertainment options which I didn't get to use. The place was spotless and very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again!

Poor
The apartment is very poorly decorated and rather dark. Bare wires in kitchen and bathroom needs a refurb. Lounge sofa springs reach the floor and clearly never moved by cleaner. Bed sags in middle quite a lot. Heaters largely not functioning so was quite cold at times.towel rail not working. 2 lights had blown. Walls must be paper thin as could hear conversations outside. Dingy place.village is nice.

I am sorry that the guests had such a poor experience of our holiday accommodation. In 8 years of holiday letting this is the first time we have had such a poor review. Most guests use words such as 'a cosy getaway', 'a hidden gem', 'great little flat', 'ideal flat in a perfect location'. Many describe having had a wonderful stay and have been returning for a number of years. It is true that a problem with one heater and the towel rail developed, which we learnt of towards the end of our guest's stay. We immediately sent our caretaker round to check that the flat was warm enough using the rest of the heating and the guests confirmed they were fine with this over the telephone. Both problems and the lights have been dealt with as soon as an electrician was available. We aim to create a welcoming, well furnished and well equipped flat where customers can have a relaxing holiday at a reasonable and fair price. Every other review we have received has confirmed this. Once again I am very sorry the customers did not enjoy their stay..
The first thing we noticed was that the flat was cold and damp as all the heaters were turned off, we did manage to warm up and dry it out but it took a while.
Second was that the crockery, cutlery, pots and pans were all dirty so we had to wash everything we wanted to use before using it.
Thirdly, the landline for incoming calls that was supposed to be available was no where to be seen although the screws to mount it on the wall were there.
Finally and of greatest concern was the smoke alarm, someone had removed the battery and put it on top of the door frame but we had no way of putting it back in as we both have mobility issues so couldn't climb on a chair.
All in all it was an uncomfortable week, the flat needs several repairs doing and a good clean at a minimum but would benefit massively if it were updated. As it was I had to oil the door locks to prevent us from being locked out/in.
I'm happy to provide a detailed list of the things that need attention to the property manager if it helps.

Dear Clare, I'm really sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at the apartment in Branscombe and I must admit I was surprised because we usually receive really good reviews, especially as the apartment is so economically priced in such a beautiful area of Devon. We do try to keep it nice for guests but unfortunately
the caretaker hadn't put the heating on for you as it had been really warm that week. That was a mistake, which I am very sorry for. She has also said she will take extra care over the kitchenware and the fire alarm battery which a previous customer must have removed. Thank you for your comments. I do hope you still enjoyed visiting the area around Branscombe. Kind regards Jean
Nice accommodation in a very beautiful village location
Nice walk on footpaths to quiet beach with cafe and shop
Choice of 2 pubs in the village
Lots of walking straight from the village and choice of beaches nearby easily reached by car
Excellent value for money and didn't need to contact the host as everything was just fine
Would definitely consider staying here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others
Good Location for visiting this part of Devon and Dorset.
This property met all our requirements the only thing it lacked was outdoor space but the pub is just over the road with a nice outdoor area and we were a short walk from the beach.
Lovely village location great pub next door the masons arms and short stroll to pebbly beach and nice beach cafe. Clean and well equipped flat just missing an outdoor space to sit on an evening
Parking space outside and visit a supermarket en route in Seaton as no shops in Branscombe
Perfectly situated in the village of Branscombe with the beach 10mins walk away and plenty of walking nearby..flat was spotless on arrival and had everything we needed for our 2 weeks break. The weather wasn't brilliant but plenty to do and see nearby and 2 nice pubs in the village that serve good food
The property was clean and tidy, it had everything that we required. Wi Fi was good but number of tv channels poor !
not the owners fault.Plenty of information availlable and books and games for children, not needed by 2 pensioners. Village lovely but surrounding lanes very narrow. Avoided the infamouse car park at Branscombe beach.
This flat is in a building with an interesting history, having been a garage and a munitions factory! This explains its slightly austere appearance amid a riot of chocolate box cottages, but once inside, it's tasteful and comfortable, with lots of thoughtful extras. The bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in! As well as the usual books and DVD's and milk in the fridge, there are children's toys, walking sticks, baskets of hats and scarves, and extra fleecey blankets - not that we needed them! With the fabulous beach 10 mins walk away and a lovely pub opposite, you may not miss a sitting out area, but on one sunny evening, we just put our own folding chairs up outside the front door, and no one seemed to mind. The village is gorgeous, more spread out thn we'd realised, but worth walking for a pasty lunch at the beach or a cream tea at the Old Bakery.
All your info was really helpful. We ate once at the Mason's Arms, but popped over there for a drink most evenings, and rated the cream teas at the Old Bakery, and the pasties at the Sea Shanty very highly!
Thank you again, I would recommend this flat to anyone, and will write a review saying so.

Dear Sue
Thank you for your review. i'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in our apartment.
We found the apartment easily, following the emailed instructions. The rooms are comfortable and, while the bedrooms are small, the living/dining areas are a good size and the kitchen was big enough for both of us to do the cooking.
The apartment is in a good position for exploring the area, 'though you have to be brave if driving on the narrow lanes!
We had poor weather on a couple of days, and found the apartment well-equipped for stay-at -home afternoons.
The nearby pub is very friendly, and does lovely food, and I really appreciated the quiet and dark of the Devon countryside. There is a pleasant 15 minute walk to the beach, which is also easy to reach by car.
I would be happy to return to this property, I just wish it wasn't so far from Yorkshire!

About the host
Hosted by Miss Jean Parker
We live in Yorkshire but have a large extended family in Devon and miss being able to be near them, so we have the apartment as a foothold in Devon. We let it out when we are not visiting and like to keep it nice and welcoming for our visitors..
Why they chose this property
We stayed here for a holiday and liked it so much we inquired about whether it might be for sale and it was! We bought it the same day as the famous wrecking of the Napoli off the coast nearby in the winter of 2007. Not a good start at the time!
What makes this property unique
Such a beautiful area and very unspoilt. Reviews from our guests often talk about finding a 'hidden jewel' in Devon. We never tire of the fantastic and varied walks around the village and over the cliffs on the coastal footpath. The views are stunning and we always manage to find new walks we have never been on before.
