Okau Station Smoko Room

If it is a beach holiday that you are looking for then this is the place for you. A comfortable place for your family and friends to enjoy New Zealand’s special wild coastal charm. You could be diving for paua, crayfish or surfcasting, all of this only a short walk away. Castlepoint is only a 10 minute drive away, walk up to the lighthouse or walk up to Castle Rock.
The Smoko Room is attached to our semi-working woolshed. Ping pong table if the weather is not the greatest or just relax with a book.
2 bedrooms with open plan living, views of the ocean while lying in bed. Plenty to do for all.
Accommodates 7. It is a semi working woodshed, so does have the sheep smell.
Please bring your own sheets and towels.

Rustic and wonderfully comfortable for my friends and I plus our three dogs. From the house we watched horses in a paddock and the beach and ocean beyond. We had everything we needed.

This property is located in a very handy spot to utilise the East Coast North of Castlepoint. The property is clean tidy and well maintained all the facilities work well and make your stay smooth.

Loved staying here. Your can't get more rural than staying in a self contained flat next to a working wool shed. Easy walk down to the beach with sheep, fantails and kingfishers to keep you company

Great communication from Kim. The place had everything you would need for cooking on the bbq and in the kitchen. Duvets and pillows supplied, just bring sheets and pillowcases. Good shower and spacious bathroom. Great weather and beach was basically deserted. Well fenced for the dogs and they loved their time chasing the swallows in the yard and surfing the waves at the beach. Thanks!

Perfect slice of country

We held a workshop in the woolshed and the smoko room and it was rugged and country and fun. There are heaps of couches in the woolshed to have a great gathering and the beds are comfy and the fire keeps everything warm in the smoko room. Was a lovely stay.

Lovely rustic hidden gem

A quiet peaceful getaway was needed and thats what we got at Okau station beach retreat. Away from the crowd, on a farm with a lovely beach and privacy. We were treated to wild deer at nighttime and a relaxing chilled time, thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Thank you.

A Rustic Gem by the Beach

Okau Station Smoko Room is perfect for a relaxing escape. Having the added bonus of a semi working woolshed, complete with a pool table and ping pong table, added a cool element for our teens.Just a 2-minute walk to the beach, the location is peaceful and private, ideal for those seeking a break from the crowds. The Smoko Room itself is cozy and full of personality. We loved it! And being able to bring our dog was fantastic—it made the stay even more special.If you peace and simple pleasures, this place is a gem!

Switching off

We enjoyed the charm of the woolshed and stock yards, we’ve recently said goodbye to the dry stock industry of 20 years so it was a nice way to spend family time in familiar settings which made our visit special. It has everything you need, my 20 month old daughter had lots of fun. We all did. Feeling grounded, rested and ready for 2025. Such a cool way to spend Xmas. We’d like to thank our hosts for having us.
