I’m a fourth-generation local, with five generations of my family connected to Albany and the Great Southern region. Growing up surrounded by rugged coastlines, white sandy beaches, towering granite landscapes, and national parks, my childhood was filled with adventure and a deep connection to the ocean. As the daughter of a fisherman, life on the water became part of who I am.

My love of interior design, travel, food, family, and heritage inspired the creation of Cliff St. Cottage — a place designed to bring people together to relax, reconnect, and experience the beauty of Albany in comfort and style. Every detail of the cottage has been thoughtfully curated to reflect not only modern luxury and warmth, but also the rich character and history of this remarkable region.

Our family’s connection to Albany runs deep. My great-grandfather, Corporal Sydney T. Coles, arrived in Albany in the 1920s after serving in the British Army during the Boer War and World War I. My great-grandfather and great uncles are honoured on the Avenue of Honour at Mt Clarence, and generations of my family have since served in the Australian Military Forces, Merchant Navy, and Royal Australian Air Force. Their legacy lives on through Albany’s proud military and ANZAC history.

Today, I work as an Environmental and Aboriginal Heritage Consultant and proudly serve as a Heritage Officer and Lifetime Member of the Albany Historical Society. I’m passionate about preserving the stories, buildings, and cultural heritage that make Albany so unique, including treasured places such as Patrick Taylor Cottage and the Albany Convict Gaol Museum.

Cliff St. Cottage is more than simply accommodation — it is a reflection of family, heritage, history, and my deep love for Albany. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to a place close to your heart, I hope your stay here creates lasting memories and a genuine connection to this extraordinary part of Western Australia.

Why they chose this property

I chose Albany and the Great Southern region because it has always been my heart and home. Growing up here, surrounded by majestic oceans, powdery white beaches, ancient granite landscapes, and breathtaking national parks, I developed a deep connection to both nature and the rich history woven throughout the region. It’s a place that feels grounding, peaceful and endlessly inspiring.

What I love most about Albany is the unique balance between natural beauty, heritage, and culture. From the dramatic coastline and Torndirrup National Park to the stories preserved through the National Anzac Centre and Albany’s historic streets, there is always something meaningful to discover. The community here is warm, welcoming, and deeply connected to the region’s history and environment.

For me, it’s the simple moments that make Albany so special — early morning beach walks, spectacular sunsets over the harbour, and the sense of calm that comes from being close to the ocean. I also deeply respect the cultural significance of Kinjarling and the enduring connection of the Menang People to this land. Albany is a place where family, tradition and nature remain at the heart of everyday life, offering the perfect escape to slow down, reconnect and truly appreciate the beauty of the Great Southern.

What makes this property unique

What makes Cliff St. Cottage truly unique is the way it blends historic charm, luxury comfort, and genuine personal connection into one unforgettable stay. More than simply accommodation, the cottage is a reflection of family heritage, thoughtful design, and a deep love for Albany and the Great Southern region.

Lovingly restored, the cottage celebrates its original character through polished timber floors, open fireplaces, high ceilings, and sweeping harbour views, while offering all the modern comforts of a luxury coastal retreat. Every space has been carefully curated with handcrafted details, locally inspired touches, and warm interiors designed to make guests feel instantly at home.

Located within one of Albany’s historic streets, the property offers a rare combination of privacy, heritage atmosphere, and convenience — just moments from beaches, cafés, walking trails, and the town centre. Guests can relax in the peaceful cottage gardens, enjoy seasonal fruit from the trees, dine alfresco overlooking the harbour, or unwind beside the fire after a day exploring the coast.

What truly sets Cliff St. Cottage apart is the experience it offers. It’s a place designed for slowing down, reconnecting, and creating lasting memories — whether that’s sharing meals with family, enjoying quiet mornings with ocean air drifting through the windows, or discovering the stories and history woven throughout Albany. Every detail has been created with care to offer guests not just a stay, but a genuine sense of place, warmth, and belonging.
