Charming cottage on Lake Michigan, nestled in the woods
Welcome to your home on Lake Michigan! This darling family cottage right on the big lake is located in the desirable Little Point Sable Association about 2 miles south of the Little Point Sable Lighthouse.
On the main level there are 2 bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one can be made up as a king or two twins), 2 full bathrooms, living room, kitchen, dining area, and a wonderful screened porch that runs the length of the cottage overlooking Lake Michigan. A mini-split AC unit in the kitchen cools the living area. Downstairs, accessible via a circular stairway inside, or an outdoor stairway, are 2 more bedrooms, a powder room, and laundry.
There is a Roku TV on which you may stream your own subscriptions. No cable or satellite TV service. Excellent fiber optic internet.
Enjoy quality time with your family on the large patio with a gorgeous view of the lake. You can live out there on the large sectional and dining table and chairs. The association offers, pickleball courts, crolf course (a crude form of golf fun for the whole family), and walking the miles of trails in the nature preserve.
As you may be aware, Lake Michigan's water level was at a record high in 2020, causing much erosion. We are thrilled that the lake level has dropped dramatically and we have a gorgeous beach! There is a path down a very small dune to the beach and water.
The family that owns this property lives next door, and they have several family members with cottages in the area, as well. Occasionally some of the family may be on the beach in front of your cottage, or using the shared firepit. They are a friendly bunch and there is room for all!
The cottage is located between Silver Lake and Stony Lake, just west of Shelby. The famous Silver Lake Sand Dunes are 10 minutes away. This area is known as a wonderful summer playground ... golf, boating, tubing, waterskiing, and more are just minutes away. This is a rural area; fine dining and high-end shopping are 40 minutes away.

The family and I had a great time at this property. We really enjoyed how close to the beach it was. We did get a little confused on the parking situation but once we figured that out we were good to go! I have never been so relaxed listening to the waves crash at night. The deck was a huge plus for us as we were able to invite family that still lives in the area to celebrate birthdays. I would stay here again.

Incredible sunsets and memories
We rented 2 cabins near each other from Laura for a family reunion. The lake view from this one was fantastic. The association offer tennis courts, pickleball courts and a unique crolf course that all ages loved playing. The cabin was very well furnished and equipped and comfortable. Laura was great to work with.

Great views of the lake from the beach and the cottage. Perfect for sunsets. Able to hear the Lake Michigan waves crash to the shore from our bedroom window. Patio deck large and accommodating for everyone. Close to town and the Hart-Montague Bike Trail head. Property Manager Laura a pleasure to work with. Wonderful vaca!

I'm glad you and your family enjoyed your week on Lake Michigan. Thank you for staying with us.

We merged a few families together and enjoyed our vacation. The sound of waves and coffee on the porch was a favorite. The kids had a great time learning to rock skip on a calm day. The property was well laid out. My only recommendation would be to add a shower to the lower level. The layout may work best for one family.

This is a great cottage for a family to stay at to spend time on the beach at Lake Michigan! The bedroom and bathroom setup worked well for our group and the kitchen had everything needed to cook meals. Note that you do need to bring toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, sponges, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, washer detergent, and trash bags with you. The enclosed porch is a nice relaxation area and there are books, puzzles, and games to enjoy. There is also a firepit on the beach to use, and there are roasting sticks provided, which made making s'mores easy. The property manager, Laura, is very communicative and helpful, and even left a cherry strudel for us in the fridge as a welcome gift. :) We had a couple of maintenance issues while we were there (the cottage had recently opened for the summer), which were fixed as soon as possible, with good communication. We enjoyed a very relaxing stay and would definitely stay there again.

A really fantastic experience! Exactly as described!
We had an amazing week at "Back Cover". It was my husband, me, our daughter 22, another daughter 19, and our son 14. The views and beach are absolutely fantastic. We could sit in the screen porch all day every day and listen to the waves! It was cool while we were there and having the windows open was so amazing, listening to the waves was the best! The cottage had everything we needed, we grilled every evening and played games after dinner. The local area was great as well, we really LOVED the Cherry Point Farm & Market, the BEST cherry pie and strudel we'd ever eaten! The winery right down the road had great wine and live entertainment on Friday night. We rented a boat on Silver Lake, took the Mac Woods Dune Ride, and horse back riding at Stony Lake Stables. We hiked all over the area as well! It was FAB, we will be back!

Overall, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our first vacation altogether in a long time.
The Pros: The area was quiet, and the house is situated on the lake, giving you a gorgeous view of Lake Michigan (and the sunsets!). With two of the bedrooms located on the lower level, the layout of the house worked well for my family so that the adults could stay up playing games on the main level after my niece went to bed downstairs. The sunroom is fantastic! We spent many hours relaxing in the sunroom, listening to the waves with the windows open. The beach access was great. It's not a long beach you'll find yourself strolling down, but we enjoyed sitting in chairs on the sand, wading in the water, and looking for/skipping rocks. And there are nearby public beaches to curb any urges to stroll long distances along Lake Michigan. Laura is fantastic; she was very responsive to any/all questions we had during our stay.
The Cons: The house is very much in the woods, so be prepared to encounter some insects in and around the cottage. Because it's an older and/or more rustic cottage, a couple little things popped up: the grill was fairly dirty so we gave it a good wipe down before we used it, and then it took a bit longer than usual to cook our food; and the dishwasher didn't seem to clean dishes very well, so we ended up hand washing everything after the first day. Not deal breakers, but just little quirks I'm sharing for the sake of a detailed review. Lastly, a Con/Pro is that we unfortunately encountered a plumbing issue during our stay, which disrupted our use of the showers and toilets for part of a day. However, the Pro part of this statement is that Laura is amazing and jumped to action right away getting some professionals to the cottage to resolve the issue with the aging septic system. She really is a great host.

I can't tell you how much I truly appreciate your kind words. I felt absolutely terrible that you had a day of dealing with plumbers (and me!) in your hair. Unfortunately, things like this can happen at any time ... we just hope they won't happen when it's rented. You and your family were so gracious and understanding. Thank you so much for the wonderful communication, positive attitude, and rolling with the flow ... or lack thereof. :)

Laura was a great communicator and everything was outlined and as expected. Our family enjoyed the stay very much and the cottage had sentimental meaning!

Thanks so much for choosing "Back Cover" for your family vacation. I hope you'll be back!

First, let me tell you that Laura (property manager) is a phenomenal host! She went above and beyond to accommodate our needs on this trip. She is very friendly and responds very quickly.
The lake house is clean, spacious and has everything you need to have a great week on Lake Michigan. There is an open floor plan on the top floor with plenty of seating in the living room and dining room. There is a sun room that is the width of the house that is accessible through the living room area. It offers additional seating to enjoy a beautiful Lake Michigan sunset and to listen to the crashing waves. 2 bedroom and 2 full bathrooms complete the upper level.
The lower level has 2 additional bedrooms, a small half bath along with a laundry room with a full size washer and dryer. Outside there is a nice seating area with lots of seats to enjoy a meal, stargaze and enjoy the beautiful view. There are a few flights of stairs that lead down to Lake Michigan.
There is a beach area if you climb down a small hill.
There are two minor drawbacks of the property
1) no camp fires due to limited beach
2) limited beach due to high lake level that has eaten away some of the hill and beach area.
I would have liked a fire but I understand why they are not allowed.
If you are not familiar with the area, there is Silver Lake sand dunes /State Park (15 min drive), a cherry farm with great food, several wineries and bakeries 15-20 mins away, Dune buggy rides (silver Lake), lighthouses (Silver Lake state Park) plus (2) in Ludington (30 -40 mins North).
This wonderful lake house is in a very quiet neighborhood that is far enough away from the big tourist attractions to not be affected by the traffic but close enough to drive to them if you are looking for family fun or groceries.
I highly recommend this wonderful home!

Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review; we appreciate it. You were wonderful guests and we certainly hope you will be back!
Laura was a pleasure to work with, she was very helpful with all our requests. The view was beautiful, and it was a place to stay. Very kid friendly provided a lot of games, toys, etc. for the kids if the weather was bad. The cleanliness of the property was very disappointing especially during this time. Pretzels were found in the couch, windows had prints, bugs were everywhere in the house(dead centipede stuck to a hand towel), some of the hand towels that were hung up appeared to be used, just not happy at all with the cleanliness. The only tub did not work along with that shower. The grill was very touchy on whether it decided to heat or not. My bad on not seeing this in the listing, but no air conditioning.

Thank you for your kind words about me and the beautiful property. I'm surprised by your comments regarding cleanliness; I wish you had brought this to my attention during your stay as I could have had the cleaning team there immediately. We pride ourselves on providing a clean environment, especially now, and this comment shocked me as no one has ever complained before about any of my 8 properties not being clean. I can guarantee that all of the sheets and towels were clean. Yes, it's unfortunate that one of the showers suddenly stopped working and needed to have a part ordered. And as for the grill, I thought everything was fixed after I came down there with a new propane tank as soon as you called.
