Four of us stayed at this property and it was a good location. We could walk almost anywhere we wanted to go - shops, pubs, restaurants, tourist sites, etc. There was plenty of space for us. The rooms were also clean. Drawbacks however were the lack of parking as we had a car. Dropping off and picking up luggage was a challenge. The Wi-Fi was spotty and seemed to only work in the main living area if you were close to the modem. Also, the many steep stairs were a challenge for one of our group with knee issues and a walking cane. There was an issue with the heating which the host offered to resolve but the temperatures were warm enough that we did not need it.
My friends and i couldn't have been happier with this place and my rating is a reflection of expectations. The apartment is perfectly located just outside the city walls with everything in walking distance. It is clean and spacious, we loved relaxing in the front room (where if you forget your book you will have of plenty of choice!) and liked being able to pop in and out of town during the day.If you're looking for the corkscrew it IS in the cutlery drawer (it is the large bullet-shaped thing!)If you love cheese .. BEWARE ... Love Cheese just a few doors down the road is dangerous! (And also for lovely wines!) Read the reviews:The stairs to the upstairs room are steep, the front room is on a secondary road so there may be occasional sirens or noise (York IS a city) and the back rooms have a view of the Minster - so you will hear its bells .. which we loved waking up to. Highly recommend eatimg at Forest.
Perfect place to explore York and locations farther afield, as the train station is just minutes away. We took full advantage of this feature for multiple day trips during our stay. Bus lines are also close by.If you’re traveling from the states, you’ll be very comfortable here. We spoke with a British family that was familiar with the place, and stays there on holiday, but that is a longer story lol.The view of York Minster is very cool, and you’re only a few minutes walk away. Many restaurants and pubs right outside your door - Tesco & Sainsbury are also close by.When we return, this is where we will try to stay.
We've had another fabulous break at Minster View. The apartment is so central and has everything we need. The hosts are super communicative and provide lots of thorough information. I can't recommend Minster View enough.
Gorgeous roomy icture perfect comfortable stay in a vintage terrace House Just outside the city walls. Easy to walk to just about everything, shops and train close by
Fantastic little flat over three levels. Unrivalled location, pubs and restaurants at the bottom of the stairs and literally a stones throw from the city wall walk. Great communication with the factor too. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
This year's Christmas break in York was fantastic, helped by the fact we had lovely accommodation.Great apartment over over 3 floors. We really liked the decor and colour scheme. A comfortable and smart apartment.Everything we could need in the kitchen. Friendly key collection and easy check in. Excellent location for the City Centre. out. We would consider staying agai
My 3 cousins and I made this trip as a way of celebrating my birthday, and we just loved this house. Plenty of room for us 4, beautifully clean and very well presented. We had a marvellous time exploring York; Castle Howard was our fave, and we loved all the quirky shops, many restaurants & bars, old streets, the majesty of the Minster, even walking the walls! Such a great time.
Thought we might have a problem with 2 radiators that would'nt come on BUT we were lovely and warm without. Missed a hairdrier, but feel Im being very fussy now... would definitely come back, just loved it!!! Many thanks for a weekend of lovely memories.
A perfect location, a two minute walk to inside the city gate. A lovely and very comfortable stay. Hosts were very easy to deal with . Would highly recommend.
The property is ideally situated to the old town of York. It is right next to the Minster. Ideal for exploring eating drinking and especially shopping.. we stayed5 nights and all agreed it was a great location.. Close to the city wall so easy to walk around .The owners and agent were easy to deal with responded to questions promptly. Would highly recommend.
It couldn't have been better: good sized property in excellent location and very clean and well equipped. All correspondence with property manager was super friendly and helpful. Great!
Spent 6 nights in this townhouse which is 5 minutes away from York Minster and convenient to the historic downtown of York. The Bootham Bar entrance to the city walls is minutes away, as are many meeting places for tours both within and out of York. The quaint townhouse is vertically orientated with multiple staircases as are most other properties in this area. Communication with the property managers was timely and great and they went above and beyond in all responses. We had full cable TV and a washer/dryer which was used often! Games and books are in the large living room also. The bathroom and tub/shower with lots of towels had ample hot water and pressure. A bit of road noise but to be expected this close to the city center, and 2/3 of the bedrooms face away from the street. On the ground level below was a professional office which we never heard. Recommended, and we would stay here again!
Lovely apartment with 3 bedrooms in a great location! Close to the Minster and tour buses. The hosts are friendly and helpful. The neighborhood lends itself to a nice vacation!
My mom, dad, and I travelled to York for a wedding and could not have been happier with the accommodations. Communication was clear, the check in process was painless, and the location was amazing, near everything! The house itself had everything we needed. The bathroom and kitchen were fantastic, and the beds comfortable. The place was clean with plenty of room. I cannot recommend this place enough! Check out the Fat Badger/Secret Garden pub as well, literally a 3 minute walk around the corner 😀

A beautiful place to stay. A second time we visited York. Our children wanted to stay at this place again and we too. It is not a luxury stay. This place however is authentic York. If you realy want to see and experience York than you must stay here. The contact with the owner was great. We wii be nack in York a third time amd we will try to book it again.
The property manager Toby met us at the flat and went over the ins and outs of the unit. The flat has lots of space and had everything we needed for a family of four plus it was very clean with comfortable beds. Now the best part is the location, this flat is right in the middle of all the shopping, restaurants and tourist sites, we were never more than a 10 minute walk from where we wanted to be. We wouldn’t hesitate to rebook here in the future.
Charming accommodation 2 blocks from York Minster. Immaculate flat with great kitchen. All the rooms, including bedrooms, are up very steep stairways so this apartment would be very difficult for older or infirmed visitors . Tesco is across the street and the area is filled with shops and restaurants. Earplugs are a good idea for pleasant sleep.
This property is located about a 2 minute walk to York Minster and in the middle of everything. You can walk to the Shambles, Betty’s Tea Room, Railway Museum, lots of restaurants and pubs, gardens, wall walk, and countless other attractions. Taxis and Ubers are easy. The host, Toby, is very helpful and easy to contact. The flat is in a very old building but it is pristine and has modern appliances. If climbing stairs is difficult for you, be advised. That is the only drawback I can see. This was perfect for us. I would return.
Minster View is fabulous. To stay so close to the Minster in a building more 100 years old is so special. The home has everything you need. The b da were comfy, the kitchen well equipped and spotlessly clean. It was warm so a fan in the lounge would be nice.

About the host
Hosted by Anna Ward and John Willer
We both have long links with Yorkshire. Anna was born in Hull and John has run marathons over pretty much all of it. We keep up our connection by spending some time every year here at Minster View in York. We really enjoy strolling round the city, we get to go to the arts cinema on the river on a near daily basis and we top up our marmite supplies. (If you're puzzled by the last point it's because we live in Granada in Spain the rest of the year.) For us, spending time between Granada and York is pretty much perfect - and we know how lucky we are...
Why they chose this property
York is a great city for strolling, with everything easily accessible within a few minutes walk. We really like the fact it has so much history and the whole area within the city walls is full of boutique shops and people just generally having a good time. Because we are right in the centre we can pop out, have a look around, and then nip back for a cup of tea….. Perfect. We also enjoy the wide range of restaurants, pubs and cafes nearby and Gillygate has some great indie shops. Walking in the nearby Botanic gardens and along the river is always a pleasure.
What makes this property unique
What we love about Minster View is pretty much summed up in the name! We have views of York Minster from all of the rooms at the back of the house, at least in winter when there are less leaves. I particularly like looking at the Minster when doing the washing up. (Don't worry - we also have a dishwasher.) We also enjoy people watching on Gillygate from the large bay window in the first floor sitting room. We love that it is so central and that it is a Georgian property with lots of character.
