Large Villa in Shkorpilovtsi, Varna area, Black Sea Coast, Bulgaria - Relaxing Location, 15 Minutes Walk to the Stunning Beach
About Gina Stacey
Hello, we live in Surrey with our 3 children. One of our favourite things is going on holiday. Whichever country we are in we love trying new foods, exploring and experiencing the culture. It is something that we look forward to for most of the year. About 10 years ago we decided that we would love to own a place abroad of our own. We looked at all of our usual favourite places; The Greek Islands, the Canary Islands, Spain, France and Italy. All are beautiful but we just couldn't find 'The right spot'. Bulgaria was a relative new discovery to us. It is a country that has been preserved in many ways, as it had been under socialist rule up until 1989. Here we discovered a country that had not merged into the Euro blend, as sadly so many other countries have. We were hooked.
Gina Stacey purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Gina Stacey chose Dolni Chiflik
Here we found 'The spot' in 2006. A piece of land that had stunning panoramic views across fields, looking towards the Black Sea and an ancient oak forest. It is on the edge of a pretty village that is big enough to have a choice of cafes and shops but small enough to be welcoming. From here we can walk to the stunning beach with fine pure white sand and enjoy views that take me back 30 years. We discovered that in the summer the beach springs to life with lots of cafes, bars, shops, restaurants and even an outdoor cinema. It positively buzzes! We decided that here we could build our perfect villa, including all the things that we liked when staying at other villas in the past. In 2008 it was completed and it became 'Gina's Retreat' a place to rest and relax.
What makes this Villa unique
The villa is an easy 40 minutes drive from Varna airport. The spacious villa sits in a large enclosed plot with south facing pool and stone BBQ. Everything you need to enjoy your holiday is within easy walking distance. Eating out in Bulgaria is a pleasant experience. Many of the restaurants and cafes offer an English menu. The food is fresh and the fish and salads fantastic. Prices are very reasonable, with a meal for 5 including drinks, costing about £25. Out of the summer season; the village and beach resort become peaceful, the area rural. Relax as the sun flowers grow in the fields around the villa. Enjoy great fishing and walks. There is a bus linking the village to Varna City and local villages but car hire is recommended. The local village cafe is open all year but you can also use the BBQ and dine whilst watching shooting stars. During the summer season the village and resort become far busier with holiday makers and lots of beach bars, restaurants open up.

Brilliant villa in untouched part of Bulgaria
Gina's retreat is a fantastic place to spend your Summer (in my case late summer) holiday.
Very quiet little village but with friendly people. Toma, the man who looks after the pool, even gave my mum a lift home from the beach one night as she struggled to walk back. There are a few convenience stores in the village and whilst they didn't speak English they were still remarkably helpful and didn't seem to get annoyed at me pointing at things to buy.
The villa itself is stunning. Very homely but with loads of room! The outside terrace areas were lovely and due to it not being in close proximity to any other properties it caught the sun at all times. Respite from the sun (if you want it) can be found under the veranda, which my mum fell in love with.
The pool is huge - but a little cold at that time of year - still pleasant though.
It's a short walk of around 15-20 minutes down to the beach where there are numerous bars and restaurants, all on the sand. The prices are cheap at around 3 leva for a beer and around 70 leva for a meal for 5 with several drinks. To visit anywhere else though you'll need a car.
When booking the holiday Gina was very helpful, always coming back to me very quickly. George, the man who gives you the keys for the villa was also very nice and very helpful responding to phone calls and text messages extremely promptly and always very positively.
In summary - if you're on the fence but want a nice relaxing holiday with few distractions just book this place. I doubt you'll regret it!
Thank you for your lovely review. We are really happy that you all enjoyed your holiday and stay at our villa. We found the THE place for us and built it, so that we could have a haven away from mass tourism whilst still enjoying all the mod cons that the kids have come to think of as normal. It is quieter out of (the beach resort) season but I love having that beach almost to myself. I will pass on your compliments to George, Toma and the team.
We hope to welcome you back again in the future, Gina, Dale and family.
Very clean, spacious, well equipped exactly like the pictures on the website
We were met at the villa by George, the property manager, on arrival, and given a guided tour. His English was very good. He told us about various things we needed to know about the property and also the local area and places to eat and shop, nearby. We were given his contact number in case there was a problem during our stay. The villa is in a sleepy little village that was very peaceful and relaxing. The local shops were pretty basic but as we ate out in the local restaurants most evenings it wasn’ t a problem to us. We did enjoy a bbq one evening and managed to purchase everything we needed for that. The property was gated and had security shutters, an alarm system and a safe which made the place feel safe and secure.
All the rooms were spacious and well equipped with everything we needed. The rooms were cool and there were fly screens on the windows. We all thouroughly enjoyed our stay.
Not many of the local people spoke any English so it was quite funny trying to communicate what we wanted when we were in the shops, thankfully most of the restaurants had menus in English and Bulgarian.
The pool was great to take a dip in and cool off. The local beach was lovely and very quiet, although we were unable to swim in the sea as it was very choppy the week we were there.
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at our villa. Shkorpilovtsi is indeed quiet and sleepy out of the summer season, you feel like you get the whole beach to yourselves. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay.
Kindest regards, Gina & Dale
A lovely, spacious villa ...perfect family holiday
We had a wonderful holiday in the Retreat. It is very spacious, with a twin bedroom downstairs, opposite a big shower room and 3 bedrooms upstairs. the master has a shower room and the two twin rooms share a bathroom with a bath. The water pressure is lovely, especially in the downstairs shower!. The villa was clean and tidy on our arrival and we were met by George, who was very helpful. George left his number should we have needed it during our stay. We had one interruption with the internet connection, which George got fixed straight away. We hired a car so didn't require any excursions or taxis, but the visitors book shoes that this can be arranged. The kitchen was well equipped. The lounge/diner is huge! We ate in local restaurants or cooked on the BBQ in the garden. The balcony/terrace area is a perfect size. The children (12.10 and 8) loved the pool. A perfect size and well maintained. The only addition i'd add is a parasol or two for around the pool, and some cushions for the loungers. I have fair skin, so like to stay out of the sun most of the time, but enjoy being with the children around the pool. We bought some inflatables and left them in the storage room for others to enjoy. The pool isn't overlooked and the views across the fields towards the hills is beautiful. We spotted a pair of eagles circling the fields most days. Housemartins and swallows are regular visitors to the pool, swooping down for a drink throughout the day.
The beach is a 5 minute drive. It is possible to walk, and we saw people doing this from the village, but in the heat and with young children, a car is recommended.
The beach has a few lovely restaurants and bars and there is one large hotel. There are sun-loungers and parasols to rent and there was never any trouble getting one. The beach is visited by locals and the hotel users so it was never overcrowded. A short walk along the beach and you could avoid people quite easily.
For a relaxing holiday, away from the noisy Brits, then this is perfect. Plenty to visit by car too. We went to water park , visited Varna and drove south to explore Nessebar.
Gina was very helpful and provided plenty of information before the holiday to make the journey and stay easy.
We will be going back!
To Kirsty, Andrew and the family,
Thank you for your review and valued comments. Our hope is for our guests to go home as rested and relaxed as we feel, it is our piece of tranquillity. We are so happy to hear that you all enjoyed your stay and discovering Bulgaria. We look forward to welcoming you all back again in the future. I will pass on your compliments to George as he tries very hard to help where ever he can.
Kindest regards Gina & Dale
Laid back heaven!
Gina's retreat is perfect for families who want a quiet holiday. A large villa with all the mod cons and a nice sized pool, with amazing views in a sleepy Bulgarian village. Those with very small children or elderly guests may want to hire a car to go to the beach, as it is a bit of a trek along a busy-ish road (which for the most part has no path). This is our second visit, and it gets better every time!
Hi Kelly and Mike,
Thank you again for your review. It has been lovely welcoming you and your family back to Gina's Retreat. We hope to welcome you all again in the future. Kindest regards, Gina & Dale
Relaxing and scenic
The villa lived up to all of our expectations and more. The location is excellent with no need for a car. We walked for miles exploring the local area, enjoyed very reasonably priced meals at the beach bars, cooked some excellent meals on the villas barbecue and made full use of the lovely pool. It is definitely on our list of places to revisit.
Thank you for your lovely review.
We are looking forward to exploring the hot springs that you found.
It is great to hear that you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

A 15 minutes walk brings you to the fine sandy beach of Shkorpilovtsi. It is over 12km long, 100m wide and stretches from Kamchia down to Byala. The beach is a big hit with most children, including mine. With soft white sand, perfect for sand-castles and the coastal water warmer and less salty than the Mediterranean seas. It is popular with Bulgarian families but more unknown to other nationalities. It retains its serene natural beauty without too many tourist trappings even in the high season.
The local airport is Varna with UK flights served by EasyJet, Wizz Air (Luton), Bulgarian Air (Gatwick) & Balkan Holidays (from many regional airports). Shkorpilovtsi is 38km south of Varna, a 45 minutes drive. An alternative airport is Burgas (98km), served by Thomas Cook & Tui. The villa is walking distance to the beach, restaurants (only a few out of season) and shopping, but hiring a car is recommended as it will allow you to explore the many beautiful places further afield.

Shkorpilovtsi and it's beach is a hidden gem. Being 11km off the main highway, it has been buffered from the mass development of Bulgaria in the last 5 years. The resort is low key, ideal if you want to enjoy life at a relaxed pace. The pleasures of eating out here are very reasonable on the family purse. An average meal for 5 including drinks, is around £20. You have many choices where to eat; the village has cafes, a bar and 3 mini-markets. Nearer to the beach there are numerous restaurants, cafes and snack bars. In high season you can enjoy the open air cinema for £1.50 per person or enjoy the live singers whilst dining at the restaurants.
