About this property

Charming Apartment For 2, With Private Garden In Country Hamlet, Lovely Walks

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPERTY
Although attached to the main 14th century house, this charming apartment is completely independent with it's own entrance and garden, there are lockable gates providing secure parking. For those who like self-catering it's ideal, the kitchen area is well-equipped with a large fridge, gas cooker and microwave. The bedroom and sitting room are both painted in restful colours, and have antique furniture.

The log burner provides warmth for those cool summer evenings or cold winter days which make it lovely and cosy. There is a 25€ charge towards the heating in winter.

COVID
If you are infectious, we would be grateful if you cancelled! If you have been exposed to COVID please warn us and wear a mask on arrival.

3RD PERSON CHARGES
The sitting room has a sofa, which is actually an antique bed and it can also be used as a bed for a child or third adult; although this arrangement can make accommodation rather cramped, so it really is better for 2 people only. If 2 guests wish to sleep separately there is an extra charge of 20€ for the sheets for the single bed/sofa.

Please note: we charge 60€ per week extra for a third adult, (plus 20€ for bedlinen and towels) children are free up to 12 years old, plus 20€ for bedlinen and towels.
The main house, where we also have 2 B & B rooms, is suitably situated so that apartment guests can remain private if they wish as the B&B guests have use of our own garden. Please, absolutely NO SMOKING INDOORS, there is a smoke alarm.

CLEANING AND BREAKAGES
We don’t charge for cleaning, but we do expect guests to leave the property as they find it. Breakages happen but we don’t ask a deposit, the odd glass is OK. Other than that we trust our guests to be kind enough to replace what they’ve broken, or inform us and donate where that’s not possible.

PETS- DOGS ONLY
We occasionally allow medium sized well-behaved dogs, but please ask first as it is to our discretion. If we accept it will be ONE dog only at a charge of €2,50 per night. With regret we do not allow cats or any other animal, caged or otherwise.

LATE ARRIVALS
If guests for the apartment or the B&B arrive on a Sunday evening, we can provide a meal (vegetarian only) for 20€ per person plus wine.
Equally, if guests require some basics shopping in case they arrive too late to shop, they can give us a list so we can buy things they need.

DESCRIPTION OF AREA
Our house is set in a quiet hamlet, among the rolling hills and forests of the Dordogne valley. Local activities include tennis, horse-riding, golf and canoeing. Nearest restaurants at Campsegret, St Sauveur, Lembras and Queyssac which are 2.5-5km. Bergerac (10 min away) with it's medieval old town centre is on the river Dordogne, and there are plenty of gourmet restaurants and shops selling local produce and regional wines. There's a park and lake for swimming nearby, about 8 minutes away, and a very good eating place within the park grounds, they also have live music some summer evenings, the grounds are laid out so that you can also have a brisk hour's walk or jog.

Bergerac's airport (15 mins) has flights to many towns in the UK. The area has much to offer for walkers, cyclists, sightseers and wine tasters, with quaint medieval villages, châteaux and gardens to visit. Les Eyzies, with its prehistoric caves & cave paintings is 1 hour drive along the Dordogne river passing châteaux and vertiginous cliff-top villages, orchards and walnut farms.

About the host

Hosted by Graham and Liz Sangster

Host profile image
Graham and Liz have been living in the Dordogne for 35 years and therefore speak fluent French. They are now retired from working in the restoration and decoration of châteaux and private houses where as an artist Liz painted frescoes and trompe l’oeil. Liz continues to paint oils and water colours which she exhibits locally and in the uk, she's also published a book of her silly poems and illustrations. Graham is passionate about Citroen cars and uses our 2CV daily. The property is an old fortified farm built by the English during the 100 years war, set in 5 acres of land, in a small hamlet in their village commune, a kilometre away.

Why they chose this property

We love the French countryside here, and Graham, being particularly keen on cycling, enjoys the off-road opportunities, through the forests and fields. We both enjoy walking our dog too, and there are many 'chemins randonées' to choose from where you can walk for hours without seeing a soul. As an artist the area is ideal for Liz , with so many views to draw and paint , the unique Perigordian architecture setting it apart from the rest of France.

What makes this property unique

The house is 10 mins from Bergerac, and 4km from 3 villages with commerce, therefore handy to pop out for supplies. Bergerac Airport: flights go to many parts of the UK , so it's extremely handy for visiting our family and friends. The region is so varied that we can drive in any direction and the landscape changes from forest to vineyards, from rolling hills to orchards, then from river to gorge, even within 10 mins of leaving our home. There are numerous châteaux to visit either for wine-tasting or for their historic interest: Josephine Baker's château with it's art deco rooms, makes a fascinating visit because of its history of being the home she created for her 12 adopted "rainbow" children. ...Château Biron with beautifully restored rooms, also houses 2 galleries for art exhibitions. Biron has spectacular views from the rocky outcrop on which it is built .... Castelnaud, again with beautiful views, has interesting replicas of mediaeval war machines. Weather-permitting, here the clear starlit skies at night are free from light pollution, and therefore good for stargazing, especially in August when the Perseids meteor shower is at it's peak.
