Fijn huis voor 2 personen op een prachtige plek

Mooie plek om buiten te zitten maar ook voor wandelingen maken. Prettig, gezellig en goed uitgerust appartement. Duidelijke communicatie. We hadden een vraag over de verwarming in april en dat was al helemaal geregeld en duidelijk lang voor wij aankwamen.

Angenehmer und ruhiger Aufenthalt in einer schön eingerichteten Finca

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Judith und ihre Familie sind sehr nett und wissen mit einigen Reisetipps und Vorschlägen zu helfen. Die Wohnung ist sehr gut ausgestattet und komfortabel, sodass mensch auch bei längeren Aufenthalten auf nichts verzichten kann (insb. die Waschmaschine ist sehr hilfreich). Klimabedingt herrscht eine hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit in der Region, worauf mensch sich einstellen sollte (Wäsche trocknet langsamer). Die Lage der Finca ist etwas abseitig gelegen aber perfekt für jede*n mit dem Wunsch nach Entspannung und Ruhe. Das bedeutet auch, dass für Einkäufe und so weiter für Mobilität gesorgt sein sollte.

We had very nice and accomodating owners who were living in the same building and always available to help. The property is located in a very beutiful valey away from it all so a car is escencial. A lot of oportunities for things to do easily reachable by car. A lot of shoping in a short driving distance too. Very convenient bakery/cafe near buy (5 minutes drive, loved it). Unfortunately the weather was not perfect during our stay but it was merely the ownly downside I could think off. Would be happy to stay there again in the future.

Brilliant accommodation and hospitality.....highly recommended!

We had the privilege to spend a most amazing 16 days in this wonderful location. Despite variable weather from heavy rain and thunderstorms to hot sunny days if we were not in the delightful garden, we could be found sitting on the balcony enjoying the silence of the countryside which was only broken by bird song and the gentle sound of the bells on cows and sheep in fields nearby. Taking meals at our delightful garden table added to the overall experience of a relaxing holiday. We can highly recommend this unique spot which despite it's apparent isolation is ideally situated for trips to the many and varied beaches along the stunning coastline of Northern Spain. Alternatively, there is an assortment of traditional Spanish towns and villages to visit and,of course, the breath taking Picos mountains and unspoiled Valle de Carriega and Miera. Judith, our host, was very charming and helpful....and our daily visit from her Whippet, Piglet was a delight for us all especially our dog, Harvey a Tibetan Terrier! All in all a very comfortable and dog friendly location for "a get away from it all" holiday. Thank you Judith for your ability to always be on hand but never intrusive! We shall return!

Een heel prettig verblijf gehad in de cottage "La Ardilla". Gelegen in een prachtige omgeving. Heerlijk rustig. De cottage is van alle gemakken voorzien. We hebben mooie uitstapjes gemaakt in de nabije omgeving. De zee en de mooie stranden zijn ook niet ver weg. Een trip naar de Picos Europa is meer dan de moeite waard. Een aanrader voor mensen die houden van rust en wandelen! GS

Relaxing in Cantabria

A lovely place for a great holiday! A place to get up late, then tootle off to visit some of the amazing places, then have a great lunch using that marvelous custom of Spanish cuisine: the Menu del Dia, and then back to relax in the garden, or in front of a log fre!

A beautiful place with nice hosts

We enjoyed staying in the cottage. It is a very pretty cottage in a beautiful part of Spain. It's very green and less expensive. The owners were very sensible and kind too. We cooked every evening. Perhaps we should have brought aprons and a peeler and grater. There are a lot of nice places and a few good supermarkets one can visit easily by car.

Quiet and Comfortable

My wife and I, and our two dogs, stayed at Judith and Martin’s “San Cipriano” cottage for two nights in March. The accommodation is reflected accurately in the pictures and description provided. The unit was very clean, appointed with all that we required, the bed was comfortable, the shower worked well and was spacious, and there was plenty of hot water. The house grew from the restoration of ruins and shows particularly fine woodwork and craftsmanship. The location is very quiet and scenic. The inside and outside spaces, including the enclosed yard for guests (and particularly their dogs), are well thought out and provided us with plenty of room. The covered outdoor eating area and car park are very convenient when it rains. While the location is best suited for those traveling by a car, a wide variety of interesting sites and activities can be found within a short distance. There are plenty of informational brochures and maps of the local area in the unit.

Wonderful home in the country of Northern Spain

We really enjoyed staying at this home in the countryside of Northern Spain, south of Santander. It was really great to be in a rural location, especially one in such a scenic spot. The home had a very comfortable feeling with antiques and beautiful art work by the owner's father on the walls. Comfortable living and dining area and good beds. The kitchen was small but had everything we needed. Judith was so kind and welcoming offering eggs and chestnuts from her garden. Also making arrangements for a tour to the caves for us. We felt like we were in a real home with real warmth and real people. I wish I could see them again. We even made friends with their dogs. I will have great memories of our stay here. Judith also offered great advice on places to visit. Picos of Europe and many coastal towns with wonderful old towns to visit.

Sehr erholsamer Aufenthalt, inmitten schöner Natur // very pleasant stay, highly recommended

Das Ferienhaus liegt sehr schön in grüner Landschaft, etwas abseits des Trubels, dennoch verkehrsgünsig. Das Haus ist individuell eingerichtet und sehr gut ausgestattet und in gutem Zustand. Zudem war es sauber und alles in genügender Anzahl vorhanden. Auch die vielsprachige Vermieterin Judith war äußerst freundlich und bemüht, dass der Aufenthalt gelingt. Das Anwesen wurde von vielen Tieren umgeben (Schafe, Ponys, Schweine, Hunde, Hühner). Der Pool diente als willkommene Abkühlung. Sehr empfehlenwert für Leute, die die Ruhe suchen, ob mit oder ohne Kindern. Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt (Zwei Erwachsene mit zwei Jugentlichen, Anfang September 2016).

An appartment, which is part of the owners' home. Rustic and comfortable.

A lovely holiday home with an owner that was friendly and helpful. Judith went out of her way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The property was clean and comfortable with the antique furniture giving it a rural farmhouse feel. We loved sitting on the balcony watching the sun rise over the mountains or having a leisurely lunch in the garden under the shade of the The kitchen was limited to a gas hob and microwave ( so no oven) but this did not really make any difference to us. Our only disappointment was the hard beds. We enjoyed going into Cartes to the bank, baker or for coffee (although no longer any food store there unfortunately) and this was approximately 20minutes down a winding road.

Lovely welcome and a great place to relax and explore Spain's northern coast

We had a brilliant stay at La Ardilla - Judith and her family were very welcoming and the accommodation was inviting, relaxing and well appointed. The location is great for exploring the local hills and the coastal towns and beaches. Good links to major roads made travel further afield easy too. Supermarkets are within a drive of 15 minutes or so. On site, the private garden, trampoline and the shared pool and table tennis table meant that our two boys genuinely enjoyed being at La Ardilla as much as the time we spent on the beaches! The sounds in the garden range from wind in the trees to donkeys braying in the valley and cattle bells on the hills all around. Would love to return sometime (sooner rather than later we hope) - thanks so much Judith & family!

Stunning Location

We have just returned from a week's stay, we noticed the house as soon as we turned onto the track, set back in stunning acres and breathtaking views. Judith was an excellent host we only saw her when needed too which wasn't often. The shared pool was a welcome delight after a hard day at one of the many beautiful beaches. Truly stunning would recommend to one and all... Our only gripe was the weather but even so sharing a glass it wine overlooking the views while feeding the ponies an apple took our mind off the rain!

Charming, traditional, well appointed cottage in stunning setting

We had the most perfect week here. A family of 4 with children aged 11 and 13. The cottage is absolutely beautiful; sitting snugly in gorgeous countryside between a swathe of eucalyptus forest, rolling green fields and huge hills covered in gorse, broom and pine trees. We were lucky enough to experience the views in cloud, light drizzle and glorious sunshine and each was fantastic. It is a very special spot. The annex we stayed in was really well thought out. The living space is generous with comfortable, homely seating, a nice table and chairs with the view from the window right there as you ate breakfast or whatever. The kitchen is great - modern hob (no oven but really who needs one on holiday?) and other appliances including washing machine and a brilliant range of crockery, cutlery, pans etc. You could tell here, and throughout the house that Judith and her family have really thought about how to make guests feel at home. There are plenty of storage spaces and surfaces for things. We were really impressed. Outside, the pool and swing, table tennis table, balcony, garden furniture and lovely lawn and driveway made for a perfect spot in which to relax at any time of the day. Judith recommended a local walk up the large hill by the house and it was worth it...incredible views and strong smells of pine and eucalyptus. You can hear the sound of cow bells almost everywhere in that area and this just adds to the charm. Judith and her family were friendly and really helpful. She gave us tips on what to see nearby. We canoed, hiked, strolled, hired bikes, swam in rivers and hit the incredible beaches and pretty historical towns. We really didn't want to leave. Definitely read up about specific walks in Cantabria and Asturias if you go though as there is masses to see and do in all weathers. Buy a couple of books if you can or download a few to take with you. There's WiFi at the house which is pretty good but better to come with stuff saved on screen or printed out. Good maps are also a must as it's such a beautiful area, with very little traffic, if you're driving, the back roads are wonderful if you can navigate them. The food and the people are great - fixed price menus at under 12 euros a head including wine and beer, fantastic seafood at pretty much every little lamppost made us realise how royally ripped off we are in other European hot spots. But staying at this cottage made the week even more enjoyable. Thank u!

A welcome to Catalania

My wife and I and a good friend had already read the reviews of other guests and where therefore not surprised by the very warm welcome we received from Judith. The location of the apartment is superb with the views across open fields to distant mountains possible from the balcony or the gazebo in the garden below. The accommodation is of a high order, especially the spacious homely comfortable lounge which was a boon when the weather was cool and wet. The kitchen has all that is required apart perhaps from an oven (a microwave is provided) and a freezer compartment in the refrigerator. The bedrooms and huge shower room are great and the whole apartment was immaculately clean. There are no shops nearby but supermarkets are easily accessible in Torrelavega about 20 minutes away. We enjoyed La Ardilla's peaceful location and found it to be good for visiting the north coast and escaping into the spectacular mountains. Thank you Judith for making us so welcome. We hope to be able to return again.

Highly recommended

Lovely scenic location but easy access to motorway. Convenient for visits to museum at Altamira, Santillana del Mar, caves at Puente Visgo, quiet beaches, Saja Besaya natural park. Property is beautifully decorated and the owner is friendly and helpful as well.

Propriété charmante en pleine nature

Notre séjour à la Ardilla a été très agréable, la propriété se situe sur une petite colline au milieu des forêts d'eucalyptus et des champs où paissent des poneys. Tous les amateurs de nature aimeront ce cadre magnifique. La location est bien agencée et tout-à-fait séparée de l'autre appartement, elle est aussi spacieuse et très propre. Deux petites remarques cependant: la cuisine un peu désuète et la chambre du bas (celle des enfants, située au niveau inférieur) qui est très humide et sent le renfermé. Judith la propriétaire est très aimable et discrète, c'est une destination parfaite pour une famille avec deux enfants (piscine, table de ping-pong, balançoire)

We loved it!!

This is a fabulous place to stay. We had a wonderful time as a family of four with two secondary school age children staying for one week. The house is beautiful, clean and very tastefully decorated with lovely polished wood flooring and antique furniture. The location is good for hill and mountain walking - you can start one mountain walk just 400 yards from the cottage. But if going again would try and buy some English guide books and maps as there is little available here and only the biggest mountains tend to have guided routes. There is also a great surfing beach just 25 minutes away and prehistoric caves just as close. We also enjoyed a dip in the little swimming pool at the cottage after a day out. Judith is a wonderful and friendly host - welcoming and a great help when we had a problem with a puncture on our hire car, helping us negotiate in Spanish with different car hire people. You do need to drive into town for food and there is no local bakers but then you can't be enjoy the quite of the mountains and have shops on your doorstep at the same time. You are also sharing some facilities e.g. pool, car space and table tennis but this was as expected. We would definitely recommend and would look to return at some later date.

ruhiges Cottage in Kanabrien

Ruhig gelegenes, sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtetes Cottage in den Bergen Kantabriens. Man kann hier gut entschleunigen. Die Vermieterin wohnt nebenan und ist sehr hilfsbereit. Judith ist sehr geduldig und beantwortet alle Fragen und kann gute Ausflugtipps geben. die Wohnung ist insbesondere für Familien mit größeren Kindern geeignet, da diese auf einer weiteren Etage untergebracht sind und kostenfreies WIFI vorhanden ist. Die Küche ist voll ausgestattet. Im Garten gibt es einem kleinen Pool, den wir in den Abendstunden sehr genossen haben. Zwei Liegestühle würden das tolle Landhaus noch vervollständigen. wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Characterful property set in lovely surroundings

This is a lovely property with large lounge/dining area, nice double bedroom and large shower room. There is a nice outdoor seating area with table and chairs under a gazebo and sun loungers in grassed area with fabulous views. The only downside to the property is the antiquated kitchen with very old gas stove. There is a microwave/griller though. No grill in oven. The area is fabulous with beautiful mountain scenery and fantastic beaches as well as pretty villages.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Ardilla where we were made to feel very much at home by our hosts, Judith and Martin. The location was excellent being a good centre for exploring the area whilst being set in a quiet and beautiful rural environment. The accommodation was comfortable and homely. We were blessed by good weather and were able to explore this lovely area of northern Spain. Certainly to be recommended and we hope to return in the future.

sunshine in the mountains

What a wonderful retreat! We stayed with Judith and her family for a week and enjoyed a very relaxing stay. The location is ideal - very close to Santander and not far to wide sandy beaches, and small friendly towns with lovely restaurants and bars. We even managed a trip to Bilbao to visit the Guggenheim museum. Judith was a wonderful host and so helpful and generous. The views from the terrace are magical as are the walks through the woods.

Originally we are from the Netherlands. My husband and I fell in love with this beautifull region of northern Spain and decided to live there permantly. We purchased the property in 2001 and we are very hapy here with our 2 children who had 1 and 3 years of age when we went to Spain.
We live within the property, at the other side of the house. We´re always happy to offer help and advice during your stay, whilst at the same time, respecting your privacy. We hope you will enjoy Cantabria just as much as we do.
