Casa de Josefa is a traditional but spacious Berber style house just below the picturesque church in Capileira, nestling in the heart of the friendly local community. Its large lounge and open fire make a comfortable place to relax in the evenings. From its roof terrace and lounge there are stunning views across the Poqueira valley, up to the high Sierra mountains, snow-covered for much of the year, down to the Mediterranean coast. The many walkers, who use Capileira as their base, contribute to the lively atmosphere of the town. From the front door you can walk down to the next village (Bubion) for coffee; or down to the Poqueira river (1 hour) or across the valley and up into the mountains. A walker's paradise. For those on wheels a short drive up to the entrance to the National Park will reward you with views of the Mediterranean and even the African coastline and mountains on a clear day. There are plenty of activities, including mountain biking, horse riding, Flamenco courses, climbing , art classes...

Es una casa de más de 150 años de edad, reformada manteniendo su estilo tradicional beréber pero muy espaciosa.

Stunning Capileira Stay

We spent a fabulous few days exploring beautiful Capileira and eating delicious food in the restaurants. Casa Josepha is highly recommended and Elena was hugely helpful & supportive - we loved it and will be back!

Absolutely wonderful

The host, Elena, was very responsive and helpful. Casa Josefa is comfortable and very tastefully decorated with outstanding views from both the balcony and the terrace. The center of the village is close as our some gorgeous hikes. We loved our stay in Capileira !

Beautiful house in a perfect location.

We were delighted with the quiet location of this lovely, traditional house, on the edge of the village with stunning views out over the poquiera gorge. The views can be enjoyed from the sitting room, roof top terrace and the main bedroom. The house is clean, comfortable and cosy with a log fire for the chilly times of the year. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to cook, however, there are plenty of great places to eat out within a short if steep climb into the centre of the village! Our favourite was the pizzeria in the centre by the church. Thank you Elena and Thierry you were the perfect hosts and spent a lot of time making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, and advising us on local walks and knowledge. This is a great spot for hiking, bird watching and simply enjoying the peace and beauty of nature at it`s best. We would recommend casa Josefa unreservedly, and intend to return next year!

De (vakantie)woning is gunstig gelegen. Het is meer dan een vakantiewoning het is een echte woning waarin je je onmiddellijk thuis voelt. Totaal niets op aan te merken.

Taking in the amazing views

This property is a wonderful traditional cottage. If your looking for something authentic and charming, this is the one. The views are amazing. There is plenty of space and it is very comfortable. If you have mobility problems or are looking for ultra modern then its not for you. I love this place. I recommend this house and this village. It has many good restaurant that you can walk to but you can cook your own meals in the well equiped kitchen. You will need a car.

Absolutely fabulous....

Thanks to Elena for a wonderful stay in Capilieria - the house was really cosy, spotlessly clean and had everything you would need - home away from home. We love this part of the world and enjoyed some fantastic hikes, then back to the casa to light the fire and enjoy the comforts of Casa Josefa. We will definitely be back - muchas gracias Elena.

Lovely cozy home

Casa Josefa is a very special small home. It has been recently renovated with fresh paint, windows, doors, appliances and fixtures. The slate floors are beautiful. Furnishings are a mixture of nice antiques and basic new. Kitchen was well stocked and the bed was comfortable. It's very cosy with great views. The bedrooms are nicely heated but the rest of the home relies on two wood stoves which are a fair bit of work if it's chilly out. The house was unheated when we arrived and took several hours to get comfortable. Wood costs 8 euros per bag and we used two per day to stay warm with temps ranging from 5-10 C. If you don't mind the work and expense it can add to the ambiance but may not be for everyone in the cool season. The owner could not have been nicer. She was accessible and very helpful. Really the complete package. Highly recommended overall.

Sehr schönes Ferienhaus!!

Die "Casa Josefa" ist ein wunderbares Ferienhaus. Wer sich gerne in alten, liebevoll renovierten Häusern aufhält, wird hier voll auf seine Kosten kommen. Die beiden Schlafzimmer im Untergeschoss sind sehr gemütlich. Die Küche ist geräumig und mit allem ausgestattet, was man benötigt. Das Wohnzimmer mit seinen beiden Sofas ist auch an heißen Tagen kühl und wunderbar geeignet für eine kleine Siesta. Im Winter ist es mit dem großen Kamin bestimmt auch toll. Die Dachterasse bietet einen tollen Ausblick ins Tal und auf die Berge. Capileira bietet eine Vielzahl netter Restaurants und Bars. Gut gekennzeichnete Wege erlauben kürzere (und auch längere) Wanderung in der Sierra Nevada. Thank you very much Elena & Thierry!!

Sehr gut für wandern und biken, ruhige Lage. Sehr nette Vermieterin.

Das einzige was als Negativpunkt zu erwähnen ist, sind die Stühle auf der Terrasse. Diese sind äusserst unbequem bzw. Teilweise kaputt.

Ruhige und sehr authentische Fw, sauber und gut ausgestattet.

Nette und ursprünglichliche Fw, die allerdings nicht für Menschen mit Behinderung geeignet ist. Toll geeignet für Touren in der Sierra Nevada. Urlaub mal ganz anders als an der Costa del Soll üblich. Authentisches Dorfleben, trotzdem auch eine gewisse touristische Infrastruktur. Nette Vermieterin.

The house was conveniently located in the village and the views were superb. Everything needed for your stay is available in the house and Elena explained about the various appliances etc on our arrival. Access to various walks is straight forward and the sign posting is very good. The local restaurants are all within a 5 minutes walk away and the food is excellent but beware of the portion sizes as they are LARGE!! We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Capileira and our stay in Casa Josefa and we will definitely return in the future.

Lots of character

Casa Josefa is very conveniently located near local amenities, but also very quiet and peaceful. There are beautiful views across the valley, especially from the roof terrace, which is also a great place to spend your siesta (weather permitting). There are many good waymarked walking routes nearby, with beautiful sceneries - and ascents that really get your heart rate up! The house is as comfortable as a centuries old Berber house can be - it had been very cold and windy, so it took us a while to get it warmed up. On the other hand, I would imagine it stays nice and cool during hot summers. Elena and Thierry are very sympathetic, helpful hosts. It was easy to communicate with them and they really made us feel welcome. We loved our holiday here and hope to be able to visit again soon.

Traditional Berber house with amazing views

We loved Cas Josefa - even better than the photographs! Tucked away in a quite part of the village, clean, we'll equip the and perfect for a walking holiday in Las Alpujarras. Would not hesitate to give a 5 star rating and will definitely be planning a return trip.

Really great place to stay in Capileira!

We really enjoyed our stay at Elenas and Thierry lovely Berber house. It is extremely clean and feels very homely. The furnishings are good quality and you are provided with everything you could possibly need. The views from the lounge windows are wonderful of the magnificent Poqueiro valley. Although the village is lively at the weekends the position of this house, situated on the side of the gorge, provides a real haven of peace, with constant birdsong and the tinkleing bells of goatherds. It's a great spot for walkers as you can set straight off from the house on the magnificent walks. The scenery is fabulous, the air fresh, spring flowers everywhere plus blue skies. What more could you want? This was our second visit to the magnificent Alpujarras. We will definitely be returning.

Amazing Berber house in a stunning location

Beautiful property, very convenient location in Capileira with easily accessible hiking. Stunning views over the Alpujarros mountains from the rooftop patio. Ideal for a family of 4. Comfortable lounge with wood burning stove. Very lucky to have found such a beautiful home. Thank you.

Beautiful house and view!

What a place. The view is absolutely breathtaking. We stayed in several places over 3 months in Spain, all of them wonderful, but this house and view were my favourite. We were with our 2 young children (ages 3 and 5) and the house was great for them. The only thing was the rooftop terrace - it's not safe for young children to go up on their own. The town, Capileira, was great with lots of amenities. Parking was easy. There's a playground right next to the car park that the kids loved. We did many local walks from Capileira and in the area. Everyone in the family loved it. We hope to be back!

We are Elena and Thierry.
Elena is Spanish-Italian and Thierry is Belgian.
We are enthusiasts of the mountain and the journeys, especially those by bicycle. It was during an exploratory climbing expedition of the sites in Andalusia in 2006 that we visited the Alpujarra and its three Berber villages perched on the south side of the Sierra Nevada. It took just one day to realise that Capileira was going to become our pied-à-terre. We have been settled here since enjoying a happy and peaceful life with our 2 children, and our dog.

Why they chose this property

We went climbing in Capileira site and fell in love with the kindness of the people, the village with its traditional Berber houses and the crystal clear atmosphere to breath at this elevation of over 1500 metres.

What makes this property unique

Casa de Josefa (which took its name from the Canadian lady who renovated it) is ideally situated in the village, with good access to the car park, the shops and main square, yet occupying a quiet area in the streets just below the church. Capileira is a wonderful base - cooler in the summer than lower down the mountains or at the coast. Yet the Mediterranean beaches or the exciting city of Granada can be easily reached in an hour by car.
