This is an easy pick. Just look at all the great reviews. Even if you don't need all four bedrooms, this is a great choice. I can't say enough great things about our stay.
This house in Obidose was the perfect location to base for exploring the area. It was close to one of the entry gates so unloading and loading was easy. During the day Obidos is absolutely swarming with visitors, so a little bit goes a long way but after the buses depart it is just wonderful. We ate in the garden every night using the grill and well equipped kitchen. The baths had great showers and the whole antique filled house was spotless.
Based on our 10 days at Maria’s beautiful home nestled in the ancient walls of Obidos , it is no surprise that Maria is a super host. From the cabinets full of useful dishware to the well stocked kitchen, wonderfully decorated interior spaces and the magic enclosed garden it was a true pleasure from start to finsh. As a heavy user of VRBO i can easily say this was my best booking ever. In fact I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Maria for your graciousness and extra ordinary hosting. We loved our stay in the garden house in Obidos! The home is filling with lovely treasures and was a joy to stay in. We especially enjoyed drinking our cafe in the garden. It was a perfect stay in such a charming place!
A group of 50-somethings (college friends) traveling to Portugal for the first time and I chose the magical “House with Garden” in Óbidos Castle is 100% as described spacious, old, filled with beautiful art/antiques, comfy and clean bedrooms… and the GARDEN : a quiet and serene paradise within the Paradiso of Óbidos .
Beautiful property in an amazing location. Clean and well equipped kitchen and fantastic garden. We found it best to park outside the wall and walk a short distance to the property. Owner promptly answered all our concerns. Would definately recommend!
Marla has a wonderful house, we needed time to ourselves, we used the garden to relax in (thank goodness we had good weather) took in the sights when the crowds died down and lit the fire in the evenings. Perfect.
The property is within the fortified walls of the castle and delivers charm and history. The granite pathways set you back in history while you wonder the market, cafes and sites.
Very well presented, appointed and comfortable home with loads of character. Comfortable beds. Communication with Maria was excellent before and during our stay. Would not hesitate to stay there again.
A trip back in time to an incredible town, in a magical home full of life and beautiful objects and art. We all said we could have stayed at Wisteria house forever.
Our stay was fantastic. The house is beautifully decorated, and the fireplace makes it very cozy. Despite the house being historic, it was easy to get temperature of the different spaces comfortable. We visited in February, so it was a little cold to spend time outside, but the garden was beautiful. Our host was very attentive and helped with anything we asked for.
Beautiful 2 Story house with an exceptional garden
An absolutely stunning property. The garden is a wonder of tranquility, with a grill and an outside brick oven. There are three bathrooms, all different. The beds were small, but comfortable. Would definitely stay here again. You won’t want to leave!
We had 2 nights booked in this fabulous house to meet up with friends. It was so gorgeous that we extended. The location of the house within the castle walls is amazing and to have a stunning garden as well is a real bonus. You feel like you are staying in an old family home. There is literally everything you need plus so much character! We couldn’t recommend this any higher -it was the highlight of our trip.Maria was very helpful and quick to respond to any queries Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home
The house is inside the walls of beautiful Obidos, and is quintessentially Portuguese. The walled garden is stunning and peaceful, perfumed by jasmine with cascading wisteria.
Maria was an attentive and gracious host. We would stay again in a heartbeat.
Beautiful medieval house located in a beautiful medieval village the house was amazing it had a beautiful garde.n the owners went out of their way to make sure that our experience was top notch staying there was like staying in a fairy tale with medieval knights.
You could spend all your time just looking at the beautiful interior. Furnished and decorated in the old style, this home is like the TARDIS in Dr. Who - seems tiny on the outside, but it is very large on the inside, with a lovely garden to boot. There are four bedrooms, so it is perfect for a large family. It is also nicely located within the walls of the old city, just a short walk to all the shops and restaurants. It's a little cold in the winter but should be perfect the rest of the year. The host was very accommodating.
We loved the home! It was just as you see and this was perfect for us. We came for a weekend in December so we also had fun in Obidos with all the additional Christmas festivities. Because it was December it was also chilly but there is a fireplace which warmed up the main living room very nicely and there were electric heaters in all of the bedrooms and bathrooms. The garden gets afternoon sun so after we walked around most of the day we sat outside and enjoyed the sun and relaxed. We would stay here again for sure.
Maria provided such a relaxing lovely stay at her beautiful home inside the walled city. Was so easy and fun. Parking was not an issue because we simple parked in the inexpensive lot just outside the walls and walked in. (Something the town should think about - keep the cars completely out. It's easy and being car-free is kind of wonderful). Go to Obidos!!
Everything was perfect for a house which is over 300 years old. The only issue is trying to find the house. The streets have no name and there is no address on the door. Dragging your luggage 800 meters in cobble stones could be a challenge. Once you overcome this you will enjoy your stay.
Truly like staying in a castle! The stone walls and stairs were authentic. The garden was lovely with the wisteria in full bloom. There was plenty of room for the three of us senior citizens. Everything we could have asked for was there. One thing to note is that the castle grounds are hilly and cobblestoned, so people with mobility issues could have difficulty getting around. Buy chocolate at one of the stores in the area! Maria was very helpful and responsive. She helped us with finding parking and getting the luggage from the parking area to the accommodation. The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars was the fact that it was pretty chilly inside. ( Mid-April and cool and rainy outside ). The individual bedrooms and baths thankfully had heat
This is a historic property tucked inside the walled city of Obidos. Wow, what a delight and honor to step inside and marvel at the antiques and vestiges of a long ago era. The walled garden added so much pleasure during our stay as the place for morning coffee and afternoon drinks. Maria Joao assured that we arrived safely and had the house ready for us. Being inside the wall of the city allowed us to wander Obidos early in the morning and later in the evening when the throngs of tourists who flock inside the gates are far fewer. During the day, we wended our way out of the walled city by car and visited other nearby places such as Tomar, Caldas da Rainha, Cortem winery, and Salinas de Rio Maior. We were always pleased to come back to our "home" and make our way on foot to one of the wonderful restaurants for drinks and a meal. Thank you Maria Joao for sharing this historic and lovingly cared-for property.
